Trade: Christie for Mobley (MERGED)

I wonder... how many of the people who don't like this trade were also not feeling the trade that brought us Brad Miller?

People who don't like this trade are fools. EVERY SINGLE NBA ANALYST ON ESPN said it was a slam dunk trade for the Kings. Christie was a bum anyways, him and his lame sign. I'm glad he's gone. He can take his sideshow act with his wife elsewhere.

No reason to call people "fools" because they have a different opinion.

NBA - Analysts are more often wrong than not.

Show some respect here Kid if you expect to last on this board. Calling people who have posted here for years is short sighted and clasless. Calling Doug Christie a bum is rude, unfeeling and ignorant.

i'm gonna admit that i did'nt like the deal bringing brad in at first, but after thinking about what it would do for the kings future -- i accepted it. brad has been tremendous for our team.

Since ESPN has said it is ok, now I know it was a good trade. Don't be a friggin idiot. DC is one of the classiest guys ever to put on a Kings uniform. Calling people like me who don't like the trade a fool, OK so be it....Calling him a bum is WAY out of line.

Although I tend to agree with your points I think it could have been said in a more diplomatic way.

This trade has positives and negatives, I really don't know what to think about it. Obviously, Mobley is the better player of the two. But losing the heart, passing and defense of Christie is a big deal.

Also, last year many thought Christie's defense was slipping, but when the playoffs rolled around he was still very effective, and I sure can't see anyone, Mobley, Martin or Evans, repeating that performance. Of course, it wasn't enough, and something tells me it wouldn't be enough to make a difference this year either.

Overall I am fine with this trade... Would I have made it? I don't know. Am I sad that Doug's gone? Heck yeah. But I certainly don't think the team has less of a chance now than they did last week.

Ok, should we as fans, get in to the real business of this trade?

What # will he wear? Isn't he # 5? But Mo Evans already wears #5. Seniority rules in the NBA right, but will Cuttino make Evans give up his # or will Mo just give it up? Maybe he can be #55, which will be weird and hopefully doesn't have that wild Jwill juice still in it....

How long until we get our first "Cuttino Fan?"

And finally, what you all have been wondering, how will public address announcer Scot Mok announce his name?

(Selfishly) Hopefully he is ready to go for Thurs game, I've got tickets (::does a little happy dance:: :D ). I've got a knack for seeing season firsts ;)

Good trade. The first mid-season trade I can remember by Petrie, though.

We get younger and more versatile on offense. We lose Doug's instinctive defense (Mobley is just as quick - they don't call him Cat for no reason), his passing and his intangible leadership qualities. We have more flexibility at the end of the year; no one wanted to spend any money on an old, broken Doug. We are in a better position to compensate for losing Bobby if he leaves next season. And we take care of the starting shooting guard position going forward, seeing as how it was our biggest long-term concern.

We've been taking care of our older positions year after year, and we will have a solid starting five for at least a couple more years, assuming Webb holds up.

We don't get better defensively, but we don't get much worse. We get better offensively, and we get younger.

I approve.

And even if I didn't, we don't say "In Superman We Trust". It's "In Petrie We Trust", and there's a reason for that.

Supes! So good to see you.

It is the first mid-season trade Petrie's done in the past 10 years, according to today's Bee.

And it sure got things jumping around here.

GO KINGS

"In Petrie We Trust" - still true after all these years

One detail that hasn't been mentioned, is the class act by the King's organization.

Take young Mr. Daniels, a young player that wasn't going to see the floor unless it is a blowout or injuries piled up and then it wouldn't matter. He has good basketball intelligence and came from a School that taught the fundamentals. He always seemed to have a good attitude and was into the game when the cameras panned the bench. He can do a lot of things well, but nothing exceptional. He could be a Jalen Rose type player that doesn't fit into any typically defined position. Yet there isn't anyone on the team that is playing that you would take their minutes and give them to him. He was the twelveth player.

According to what I read here or there (can't remember where), talks began last week (Friday?). That is before the tenth when contracts became guaranteed. How easy would it have been to just cut him and save a couple of hundred grand? Almost no one would have cared, instead they placed him on the IR. To me that is an indication of class and can pay dividents down the road when it comes to others wanting to come and play for the Kings.

Disclaimer: This is all null and void if my understanding is all wrong concerning the dates.

I agree, whozit, and I think you're most likely right about the dates since I also saw it somewhere that talks started last week.

I think it didn't occur to us because this is the first time Petrie has made a mid-season trade. It's nice to see that they didn't just throw Erick under the bus.

Hopefully, Cuttino will get over his disappointment and give the team, the Maloofs AND the fans to show that he can fit in here and do quite nicely. It's all up to him. I pray the fans in Orlando give Doug the same consideration...

Of course, the cynics among us will say they didn't cut Daniels because it wasn't a done deal.

I prefer your way of looking at it.

;)

Highly unlikely

So than tell me.. Who on our team takes the most ill advised shots? I would love to hear who you think takes shots that people sit at the edge of your seat and yell "NOOOOOO!" as they shoot it? I was just saying that HOPEFULLY Mobley will get his shots from Webber because if he gets shots that is where they will have to come from.

To tell you the truth I would LOVE to see Peja now take 20+ shots a game and then Webb, Bibby, Mobley, and then Brad. Could you come up with a better order than that for shot counts?

So, like, I have 3 Kings jerseys that I have gotten in the last few years: Hedo, Keon, and CHRISTIE.

Now I can officially wear none.

Yay.

I cannot help it, each time the Kings trade away one of my favorite players, I feel less and less passionate for the team. This really sucks...

I did not disagree that Webber's shot selection is at least questionable. I just did not share Your hope that he will pass more and shoot less. That one will never happen

Ahh I thought you were trying to say that you didn't want Webber to take less shots. I was thinking someone was going crazy ;)

Get someones jersey right when they sign a longterm contract with us. I can guarantee that Bibby or Miller will be going anywhere anytime soon so maybe one of them?

Peja isn't consistently good enough to take 20+ shots a game -- just doesn't have the game for it. Can't create. When he's aggressive he can reach that number through constant movement. But he's got a severe testosterone shortage and that aggression is only there 1 out of 10 games. Didn't even reach that number of shots last year.

I'm just hoping his number of shots don't fall too far off because of Mobley. Losing a shot or two per game is ok if the team improves, but Peja has a tendency to get even more passive if he's not getting shots, and we can't afford that. Much will depend on how well Mobley integrates himself into our passing game. Its a real plus for us that he has the ability to create -- so few of ours do. But if he starts holding the ball, squaring up people, and trying to take them one on one rather than moving the ball, we will have a problem.

#1

DC is going to wear the #1 for Orlando. Previous #1's are Penny Hardaway, Kiwane Garris, and T-Mac. Now DC. Hopefully he'll have continued success!

Well, where I think Mobley could help (and possibly take away some of Webber's shots as well) is after broken plays when we have 5-8 seconds on the shotclock. Those shots are normally taken by either Webber or Bibby. Also, those are mostly long jumpshots, so perhaps Mobley could get something by driving to the hoop or driving and kicking it out to one of the shooters. That's another thing Christie didn't do often enough.

i know some people are excited about the trade and think it's a good move, but i just can't get myself to be happy about it.
i know we can't keep the same team forever, but christie is too dear to my heart. i can't just wave bye bye and move on. christie fought and bled (literally) for the kings, i am dismayed.
for the moment i will be disliking Mobley for a while ( no, he didn't do anything wrong. yes, i am taking it out on him) until he proves me wrong.

My God people get over it. Christie was good for the team but his skills had diminished and quite frankly I'm surprised the Kings were even able to get someone of Mobley's caliber in a trade.

Let it go and move on.
