Today's press conference?

And1

G-League
Does anyone know if there will be a broadcast of this? I have seen mention of the 1:00 pm announcement, but nowhere has it said if it can be viewed anywhere. In the past these types of things have been on News 10... Thanks for any info!

It will be on 1140 AM. There is WNBA listed for channel 10 at 1. If that's the Monarchs then maybe the pre-game they'll cut directly to the live press conference. I'm watching news 10s website for a live feed to, but haven't seen anything about it

I have the video feed up from news 10 right now. The screen is blue but you can hear the audio. I'm set to go

News 10 says they'll have full coverage on the news @ 6pm.

It might list MLL Lacrosse, which started at 12 noon according to the listing, but it's currently showing a Nebraska-USF baseball game. Guess we'll know in a couple of minutes.

Yes, that is what I see too..baseball. I do have the live feed from News10.net up though. Thanks everyone!

I like Eric Musselman on first impression as our new coach.

He's got a sense of humor, he's really excited - you can see it - and yet he's got confidence in himself, the Maloofs, Petrie and the team. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

;)

BLAST! I should have had my VCR going so I could post a transcript. Hopefully someone will eventually be able to do so...

The guy does interviews well and he's obviously able to carry that over into press conferences.

He's saying the right things.

"The only way to win over fans is to win basketball games." - When asked about how he'll win over the fans as successor to Rick Adelman.

"Respect from the fans will come when they see how hard our ballclub will play."

When asked what did you learn from your stint with the Warriors, he replied, "We don't have enough time... You learn what you want to continue to do, you learn what you want to address and change. I have a whole book..."

What type of coach are you? What are your philosophies?

"With my upbringing - the unique thing about people who rise up from the minor leagues - with a fluctuating roster you have to learn to be flexible.

This is a very talented roster, with guys that are exciting for a coaching staff to coach. With time we'll figure out what kind of style to use - with heavy emphasis on defense, but we still have to focus on offense, too. You have to score to win..."

How excited are you to work with Artest?

"When you get an opportunity to work with one of the real talents in the league, you're excited."

What about Bonzi?

"Bonzi is a special talent. I think the fans of Sacramento got to see what kind of player he can be by his playoff production. I have a unique relationship with Bonzi. My dad was an assistant coach at Portland before Bonzi was there. I got to go with my dad to see Bonzi work out in high school. I've been around Bonzi, he knows my family, I knew him before I got to Memphis. I feel we have a solid bond. There's a LOT of talent in Bonzi Wells."

He also talked about how incredibly well the interview went. He loved meeting with the family, they asked the right questions, he got to get out what he wanted to get out, etc.

---------------------------------
Do you see any roster deficiencies?

"Unless you get a ring, there's room for improvement to any roster. I look forward to working with Geoff and his staff and getting to know the roster better."

You mentioned your dad. Could you talk about him for a moment?

"Any time you grow up in a household with your dad as a coach, it's in your blood. I didn't watch cartoons in the morning; I watched game tapes. I'd come home from school and make my mom take me to practice so I could watch my dad. The influence with my dad ... well, he was one of the best defensive coaches ever in the game of basketball. He was very big on making sure his top 8 players were ones he touched. I have a little different philosophy. I want to make sure my 9 through 12s also feel important."

Why did Eric get a second interview?

Petrie - After the first interview, Joe, Gavin and I were obviously VERY impressed. After that, and I think this is an ongoing tribute to Joe and Gavin and their family, when you're making a decision of this magnitude, they were impressed. They wanted to learn a lot more about Eric Musselman. We contacted a lot of people. Not just the people out front who gave him letters of recommendaiton, etc. but lots of people who had worked with him, etc. It kept coming back consistently the same - very complimentary. And that was the catalyst for the second interview. They held the second interview, afterwards they took a family vote and it was unanimous."

Gavin - I always felt in my mind we would choose someone and it would be unanimous. When he first came around, I went through that 100 page book and it was so detailed and so well prepared and well thought out... It was just impressive. In the words of Joe Paterno, "Everybody wants to win but nobody prepares to win." Eric prepared and we were all blown away.

For those not watching, everyone on the dias is relaxed, smiling and confident. I am really getting a good vibe from this.

Petrie looks more relaxed than I have seen in a VERY long time.

Joe - "I think we're extremely lucky to have him and I think the city will embrace him. As Gavin says, our ultimate goal is to win a title and I think we have the right person for that."

Gavin - I was at the point when I thought we'd be at a competitive DISADVANTAGE if we didn't hire him to whoever did get him on their team. We're together on the same page 100% and we're going forward.

When asked about his coaching staff, Muss said everybody has friends and family who they think would help and support them. "But I want to win too much. I'm going to pick the ones who will be the best fit for this team."

Marty MacNeal just took a snide shot at Adelman that was well handled by the Maloofs and Musselman.

Marty - I've seen Joe, Gavin and Geoff out in the community but, no offense to the previous coach, I don't think I ever saw him outside of Arco. What are you going to...

Muss (interrupting) Hey, I'm ready to go to the next Triple A baseball game already. When is it?

Gavin: Wait. I thought you said you didn't have any hobbies.

General laughter and frivolity...

End of press conference.

I wish I had recorded it, whozit.

My impressions are this is a guy who has learned from his mistakes. He is a GOOD fit for the Maloofs and Petrie. He has a solid NBA and basketball background. He's prepared, he's organized, and he's HUNGRY. I think the players will respond well.

I like him.

I was also impressed with the press conference. I like his professionalism. I have a really good feeling about this guy.

Hey, he can win as much as he wants! :)

thanks VF for the transcript/ relay of what went down.

I really liked this press conference. I think the new coach has a lot of energy and stayed positive in every answer...even the ones that were meant to rattle him a little bit. He seems to have a great sense of humor and seemed very relaxed and confident. I am looking forward to seeing how he mixes with the players. This seems like a good decision by the Maloofs.

First of all, thanks to VF for typing out some of the key points of the press conference.

I also got a good feeling from it and think that this was a good decision.

Musselman lives and breathes basketball and it goes back to his days as a child in elementary school. I am excited about the team even more than when the Kings did their turnaround with the Artest trade.

Anyone going to Arden Mall?

Musselman with Mike Lamb after the press conference...

ML - Talk about the process of interview.

EM - I think the process was such that Joe, Gavin and Geoff made it very easy for me to convey the philosophy I wanted to get out offensively and defensively. It was very easy to talk. They did a great job in their preparation with how they wer going to interview.

ML - What should the fans expect? What's your philosophy.

EM - They've had great success. We'll be a team that plays hard. We'll focus a little more on defense but we'll still score. You have to score to win. We're just going to concentrate a little more on becoming a little better defensive team.

I think the team did a great job once Artest came and changed their style of play a little bit. The roster has multiple players who can do different things. Artest, Wells, Miller, SAR. I think it's a ballclub and roster you can tinker with and play different styles of play with.

...

Lamebrain is simply reasking the same questions that were asked in the press conference, probably so he'll have audio clips for his show.

Another interesting tidbit was that Musselman was a Maloof choice all the way. Petrie said there was a 6-0 vote for his hiring. It was not 7-0 meaning the seventh person as Petrie. How do you all feel about that?
