To Newcomers and Veterans alike...

I know there are a lot of threads to wade through, especially here in the main forum. But, dang, don't add to the problem just because you don't want to bother to read.

Read the threads that already exist before starting new ones. I am on this board every day.....sometimes several times per day. I should not be greeted by dozens of new threads every time I log on, each talking about the same dang thing.

Do not assume that your thought or question is unique. Assume that we are already addressing your topic somewhere....and take the time to find it.

Notice I did not say please (which is more my style). Sometimes being nice just doesn't cut it. Get with the program......EVERYBODY!!!!

EDIT: If you're reading this post, please take the time to read ALL the posts before you reply. 6th may have been a little upset when she made the original post, but she brought up some very good points that a lot of us who have been here a long time hope the new members can keep in mind. We're here because we're Kings fans. The board is set up in thread format so people don't have to wade through a gazillion one- or two-post threads about the same thing.

It's all good.

Thanks!

Hmmm... never posted a thread, probably won't ...and will now restrict myself to reading only... so much for "goodwill"

That wasn't the point. Feel free to post new threads if they are bringing a new topic to the table. It gets frustrating and hard to follow when there are 3-4 or more threads going on on the same exact topic at the same time.

I'm sure that 6th's post was done in goodwill :)

Sorry, didn't mean to step on toes. I just felt the original post was a little harsh.

I work graves and read these posts all night long - they get me through the long
nights and I really enjoy the variety of threads and various comments. One of the things that stands out to me is how much you all know about Basketball/Kings...and I have learned a tremendous amount here. I would not presume to start a thread because I don't feel I have either the expertise or knowledge to post a valuable one.

I am new to the whole "forum" thing but from what I see it is an opportunity for people to express themselves, their knowledge and their love/loyalty to the Kings. I, for one, do not mind that not every thought is "unique or original" or that some threads are similar.

I guess as a new member I shouldn't say anything at all but I really thought that was part of the point of the forum - to have a chance to speak out and listen to others.

Anyway, thank you all for many hours of entertainment. I enjoy reading all the threads.

I think you are missing the point, and maybe 6th should of phrased it better. It's not so much 'unique' and 'original', it just means it would be preferred if one doesn't start a thread about a subject that already has a thread or two going on it. It makes for easier reading. I know sometimes the moderators will move all those threads together, but they can't always be here to do that.

As harsh as the original post was, 6th makes a very good point. Without organization and threads, it would just be a big, confusing forum that you'd have to wade through to find anything interesting.

As simple as it sounds, it can get very annoying to have four or five threads all talking about the same thing, especially when you're looking for a post that you wanted to respond to.

Not to mention it must be annoying for the mods who have to merge all these threads.

Why are there usually two play-by-play threads during games? (Not a hostile question, just a relative newbie who's curious.)

Treewoman: It can be frustrating, as sometimes they are so similar I'm not sure which one I responded to. I haven't been here long either, but I'd like to welcome you and I'm glad your enjoying this site as much as I am. :)

one is a PBP thread. it's strictly for PBP. VF usually does it. it's for people who can't see the games and would like to know what's going on. VF frequently adds stuff not seen on yahoo's PBP, nba.com's PBP, or other PBPs available online, like the expression on player's faces, what was reported on the local broadcast, etc.

the game thread is the one for fans discussion. started by piksi giving his/her thoughts on the game and then everyone chimes in.

Whew!! I wanted to stir the pot, and looks like that was certainly accomplished.

To those that do not know me, I really have my title for a reason. I apologize if I came across to some of you as a bit harsh....and for me, it certainly was. That is normally not my style at all.

I encourage everyone to participate. That means not only reading, but contributing your thoughts and ideas. We have a great group here and we'd like for that to continue. I do, however, have a problem with the same topics being discussed in 5-6 different threads. It really does become unmanageable that way.

My request was, and remains, that people read some of the active threads first, before starting new ones on the same topic. If you read, and cannot find something that covers the topic that you would like for us all to discuss, then by all means, start a thread. :)

Very nicely explained, LMM.

Oh, and treewoman, please accept my welcome, as well.

Thanks! That definitely helps me, as I'm pretty sure I've been in the PBP forum providing all kinds of commentary! Oops!

Yes, and you just keep right on providing commentary (in the right forum, of course ;) ). That's what we're all here for.

I don't know about that. Sometimes one Fire Adelman/Trade Peja/Mobley's a Knucklehead thread isn't enough.

Pffft! You guys are lucky that 1) I work nights, and 2) 6th is such a nice lady. I probably would have said something like: "Do not assume that your thought or question is unique. Assume that we are already addressing your topic somewhere....and take the time to find it... you lazy ******* ********."

Now THAT'S harsh.

Funny how some "new people" take things out of context just to be *****. Otherwise... I agree 6th... we have a million threads about everyones opinion on the series.

Don't hold back Slim, tell us how you really feel...

I'm bumping this to the top and putting a thumbtack in it, at least for the time being...

We have a GREAT community of fans here and some really fantastic discussions. When new people - not knowing how things go - keep starting new threads for topics already under discussion, some of the really good stuff can get lost in the shuffle.

Thanks, 6th - as usual, you said the right thing even though you were a little red-faced about it. :D

Bottom line?

GO KINGS!!!!!

Wow - personally I was kinda hoping this thread would die off.... as I am embarrassed that I was such a poohhead...

I have no excuse and would like to really appolgize to 6th for my comments. Having read many of her other comments/threads I should have realized that she had the best of intent and kept my big mouth shut.

Again thank you all for all of your wonderful comments and threads. I learn something new here every day. This is an awesome place and I am thrilled to be a part of it. Next time I feel snippy-doodle I'll think twice.

its a message board, people post their opinions...some people dont have the time to read through every post and then post....ill look thru the main couple of threads and if i dont see my topic, i post it..people type ESSAY's worth of stuff on here ...and im not going to read thru it to see if they have the same idea as me....does it hurt somebody if there are multiple threads on the same topic? i mean why does it really matter, its not like it is killing webspace......we all try not to, but it happens

It's not about people reading every single post. It's about people who - perhaps because they aren't familiar with the thread concept - create a NEW thread for things that are already being actively discussed in existing threads. That kind of thing is pretty easy to tell by the titles of the threads.

Multiple threads on the SAME TOPIC splinter the discussions and good comments may be lost because someone doesn't see the third, fourth or fifth thread about the exact same thing.

All we're asking is that people at least scan the existing threads before making a new one. I don't think it's too much to ask.
