[Game] Timberwolves @ Kings - 10/29/16 - 7:30 PM PDT

We will have to be disciplined to win this one and we absolutely have to keep their guards from going off on us. They are hyper athletic and their big man can actually play as well as our big man so the guard battle is the x factor. Our guards have to keep it close otherwise we will lose. I'm hoping for young team mistakes and one of their guards having an off night but I'm going to stay pessimistic and say we lose this one. Lavine goes off and KAT has a great game.

We lose 104-90

And yes I am hoping I am completely wrong. 10 years of losing is hard to get rid of/forget after 2 good games.

you've got a newly-veteran kings team losing at home by 14 to a very young and very unproven timberwolves team? interesting. towns is fantastic, dunn is intriguing, and tom thibodeau is a great coach, but i'm not ready to anoint the wolves as the next big thing just yet.

and can i say that i'm increasingly irritated by the inflation that occurs these days in evaluating young teams before they're ready to break out? that's not directed at you or your post as much as it is directed at the nature of premature evaluation in the internet age. a couple seasons ago, everybody was ready to believe that the wizards and raptors were going to take the eastern conference by storm. it hasn't really happened. by the same token, everybody was ready to believe that anthony davis would deliver the pelicans to the promised land. it hasn't happened at all, even with davis' tremendously outsized talent growing by the day. and everybody has been saying for the last few years that the jazz are going to take the leap into relevance. that hasn't happened, either. perhaps we should pump the brakes a little before elevating teams who haven't yet earned the hype?

now, i have no doubt that the timberwolves will be much-improved and that the jazz will be competing for a playoff spot, and both teams may very well exceed my expectations, but the west remains the more difficult conference to advance through, and these are young teams who will make mistakes when challenged by veteran squads. that certainly doesn't mean the kings will win tonight, or that the kings' veteran talent will be enough to get them to the playoffs. it also doesn't mean that the timberwolves won't play disciplined basketball, or that they won't be able to inch their way into the playoff conversation as early as this season. it's just that there's a reason playoff teams trend older.

Kings Talent< Wolves Talent
Wolves Age < Kings Age
Kings Coach = Wolves Coach

Tough call, but Wolves talent level probably is more than enough to exceed their experience deficit. Wolves win.

I like our chances if DMC takes it to KAT, will be a tough game though. Lavine could be the difference maker, he is either hot or cold, at least to this point.

Memphis strangled youngings after 3-20 start, playing without Parsons and Allen. Wolves don't handle physicality well right now - Z-Bo and Marc had a field day.
So if Kings don't get into double-digit hole early on and 'play the right way', this should be a solid veteran win.

Keep turnovers low. No foul trouble for DMC. Contain KAT as best you can. Make Wiggins put it on the floor, he doesn't have the best handles.
Keep building on our defensive identity. We can win this and be 2-1, as I predicted in another thread.

Minnesota's athleticism has always given us trouble, so I'm not that optimistic

It gave the non-defense oriented Kings teams of the past trouble. In order to beat this year's Kings team the opponent must be able to execute consistently and defend well on the other end. We may end up embarrassing the Twolves.

Minnesota's athleticism has always given us trouble, so I'm not that optimistic

Minnesota used their speed and athleticism to kill the Kings in transition last year. The Kings have done a good job in transition defense in the first 2 games. If the Kings make the Wolves play half court offense, I think they will win by double digits.

Are we going to start seeing a tighter rotation and the siphoning out of players who aren't helping? Or are we going to play wide rotation and develop?

Talent level? Wolves have the edge on talent level? MAYBE in the future. As far as right now is concerned, no. Gay is a better player than Wiggins right now. Cousins is on a different planet compared to the entire existence of their franchise with the exception of prime KG, and even then Cousins is still better than prime KG. The coaching comparison is negated by the fact that Joerger has vets to execute his game plan, Thibs does not. This should be a double digit Kings win.

The Kings have new coach and system and like seven new players, and only around 4 players in rotation from season past (Rudy, Boogie, Willie, Ben), assuming Omri DNP again, so projecting what happens tonight based on last year doesn't makes sense to me. Different team. Different degree of cohesiveness and style and attitude and talent and yada yada. Adjust optimism accordingly.

WE have a tougher team than the Twolves, aside from KAT they are a relatively soft team and I think we should be able to bully them around. Maybe get some switches of Afflalo onto Rubio and let him go into the post using pick and roll. Transition defense is key, but for once in a long time I am not worried about our transition defense

i don't think the timberwolves are soft at all. KAT is an absolute workhorse. wiggins is a greater defensive irritant than i would have guessed before he came into the league. rubio is a scrappier point guard than he's often given credit for. kris dunn is about as hard-nosed as rookies come. and minnesota is coached by perhaps the toughest defensive mind in the entire nba. they're young. they're going to make mistakes. they're still going to lose a lot of games. but it won't be for lack of toughness or lack of effort.

lol, what is going on in this forum lately. Bunch of crazy bad hot takes lately.

KAT vs Boogie? yes please! It's going to be mostly Koufos guarding him so that ought to be a fun match up ...I expect a big game out of KAT, he has expanded his range too so he can score from anywhere now. It seems to me that the last couple of match ups Wiggins has lit up Rudy or whoever else is guarding him from the Kings, I wonder if that trend shall continue. Zach Lavine can go off as well, he is a streaky shooter. I'd love for them to prove me wrong and get a win here but I don't see it happening.
