Thoughts on McCallum

Just finished reading the updated version on Shamsports myself. According to them, Jimmers contract is a team option next year. Interesting! Gives them the option of clearing some space if needed.
uh oh

I just lost faith in them.

No, Jimmer's contract WAS a team option, until that idiot Petrie picked it up before last year, causing me to bitterly retort that the fool was endangering resigning Reke by committing money to a scrub for no reason other than politeness. So its committed. It WAS a team option, but we picked it up. His 4th year will be a team option too, but one presumes PDA will not be as stupid. Well, given what PDA has shown so far maybe one doesn't presume, but I certainly hope.

Your sure that option wasn't just for this year Brick? I think we still have the option for next year which PDA will have to decide if he wants to pick up or not in October. The only thing that I could find on it was this:

Yes, I agree.

Perhaps I misunderstood what Bajaden was saying. But yes, the option that Petrie picked up was for this year, thus denying us $3mil in cap room this summer. PDA would have to affirmatively pick up the option for the 4th year, which seems unlikely.

For the record, according to Sham Sports the third year on McCallum is NOT guaranteed. http://data.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/kings.jsp
so, McCallum's third year is unguaranteed until the 12th of July 2015, at which point it's at 200k$, and becomes fully guaranteed if not waved by the 20th. so if no decision about his place on the team has been made by the 12th, the FO has given itself an eight-day window, before he becomes fully guaranteed? that's...quirky. wonder what the reasoning behind that was.

Not sure, but the 12th is a day or two after the end of the moratorium. So this basically gives the team the ability to cut him outright for cap purposes applied towards the big free agents, and then if that's not necessary, gives the team a little bit of room to maneuver but guarantees a portion of the contract. It's a bit weird, but I'd guess that suggestion came from the agent's side. The Kings would probably have preferred to have it unguaranteed as long as possible.

Yes, I think I may have misunderstood. I believe Bajaden was referring to not picking up the 2014-15 option would give us the ability to clear cap space for next offseason. And PDA will make that decision soon, and as you said, would be expected to not pick it up.
