They took my breath away...

Remember how it was?

Do you remember the electricity, the disbelief, the fear that it was all a dream and we just might wake up?

With the trade of Bobby, we have - for all intents and purposes - come full circle. There's only one guy left from the group that started it all. Those guys who all looked so strange, so unbelievably talented, so unique compared to what we'd become used to seeing year after year in Kings uniforms.

They were that good...and they got better... and then even better than that. We lived the life a sports fan can only dream of. We lost a couple of players but gained ones, like Bobby, Bibby and Brad, who quickly won places in our hearts. Some came, stayed a little while and left but the dream continued. Now, finally, the dream - at least THAT dream - is over and we've had to wake up.

It was a helluva ride, fellow Kings fans. I don't know about anyone else but I'm buying a ticket for another ride, grabbing my seat and holding on tight...waiting for them to take my breath away again.

Watching every motion in my foolish lover's game
On this endless ocean finally lovers know no shame
Turning and returning to some secret place inside
Watching in slow motion as you turn around and say

Take my breath away
Take my breath away

Watching I keep waiting still anticipating love
Never hesitating to become the fated ones
Turning and returning to some secret place to hide
Watching in slow motion as you turn to me and say

Take my breath away

Through the hourglass I saw you, in time you slipped away
When the mirror crashed I called you, and turned to hear you say
If only for today I am unafraid

Take my breath away
Take my breath away

Watching every motion in this foolish lover's game
Haunted by the notion somewhere there's a love in flames
Turning and returning to some secret place inside
Watching in slow motion as you turn to me and say

Take my breath away
My love, take my breath away*

God, I loved that team...

P.S. Yes, I know this is sappy. I can't help it. I've had that song in my head since I heard about the Webber trade, and it just keeps coming back. So I passed it on to someone else, and maybe it'll be gone from my brain.

;)

Very nicley said, VF!

Thank you to the Kings of old, and here's hoping the new ride will be as much fun as the last!

aha i still got that magazine and i remember when i got it, i was in the ATL waiting to catch a plane back home over 4 years ago

I for one prefer to look forward to a stonger, meaner Kings team that I hope to see in the near future... and I try really really hard to forget the music of the 80's.

the more and more i look at that pic, the more watery my eyes become...wait, maybe tahts just because im not wearing my glasses and tahts what happens when i do that

either way, its really cool to look at and think about......

never realized how awesome it was until it was gone...and thats true of each following season

Hey I actually have that magizine. I read it about a couple days ago. That was an exciting period to say the least

So do I, but I left it on a desk partially exposed to the sun back in the day, and the top half of the cover is faded out.

The Good Ol Times :(, perfect ending would be to win the title, and when Bibby is handed the MVP trophy, he yells "This one is for the guys".

At the risk of derailing my own thread, if the Kings win the title and Bibby gets the MVP award, I would much rather he said, "Hey, Barkley! This one's for you!!!"

:D

The 1999-2004 Kings are very safe......

Like the Packers of the 60's, the A's, and 49ers of the early 70's, the 49ers of most of the 80's and 90's, the Celtics of the early to mid 80's, the 99-04 SACRAMENTO KINGS are a place in my heart. I can visit any time I want. I miss them already, but I look forward to the next one........ ;)

Unbelievable team man... Like the saying goes, "you don't know what you've got til' its gone"... I remember the excitement and the way they used to amaze me over and over again.... I just have this wierd feeling in my stomach when I look at that pic. I never bought the magazine, but I remember looking at it in the store and saying, "that's my team".... I have to admit that before webber got traded during the times when it was really frustrating watching him play with the bad knee, I used to contemplate trading him in order to get us that ring.... But in the back of my head and especially in my heart, I wanted that team to win the ring with webber and all the other kings I loved... Now that webber has been traded and we have no ring, I wish we could have him back along with every player that ever wore a kings jersey since '99(well that's when I started watching them). Thank you kings for all the great memories.

that was the year when i fall inlove with the KINGS!!
....................................................AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I prefer not to live in the past.

Those times were great, but they're gone.

personally, when I look at our current roster, I find wishing for a time machine.

I know that despite the current state of affairs, the Kings will be great again, and I'm sure there is a championship in our future... BUT.. it will never be the same. That team was incredible, and stole a part of my heart. I love the Kings, will always love the Kings, but there is a special part in my heart for THAT Kings team. The one that taught us about heart, and showed us that having an okay basketball team is fine, but watching a team recreate itself into something great is a ride to be remembered. Watching Bobby go has brought back some of the wave of feelings that hit me when Vlade left, caught me by surprise when Christie was traded, and devastated me with the Webber trade. What a ride it's been. I wasn't ready for it to end, but I look forward to the next rollercoaster.

VF21- Great, now I've got that song stuck in my head! Oh well, I guess it's not much worse than the one that springs to my mind when I think about these years, I keep hearing that Green Day song (Good Riddance):

Good Riddance Lyrics (from clickonlyrics.com, see link)

Another turning point
A fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist
Directs you where to go
So make the best of this test
And don’t ask why
It’s not a question
But a lesson learned in time
It’s something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

So take the photographs
And still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf of
Good health and good time
Tattoos of memories
And dead skin on trial
For what it’s worth
It was worth all the while
It’s something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

It’s something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

It’s something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

We're even. You just made me cry... ;)

They were so good...so very, very good.

I remember those days. the crisp passes. the teamwork. Making the game look so easy that you thought you could go outside and do it yourself. You work hard all year, spend all that time working on your game during the summer. you go through the seasons schooling everybody all the way to the playoffs. You finally make it to the western conference finals. on the brink of bringing sacramento what it so rightfully deserves. I can see it now like it was yesterday: game five, 11 seconds left, webber back to bibby, KINGS UP BY ONE! they would go on to win that game. Then all that work you put in during the summer, all that work during the season is not enough. The most basic of things, free throws, and just like that, its over. Injuries didnt help either, as seen over those years. I miss that team. I wish We could see them again. They will always be in my memory, and I hope to see that style once again on the arco floor wowing us with there team play. I hope, I can only hope.

there was only one team that ended that season, and guess what, it wasn't the lakers!!! Can anyone guess who that team could be??? (cough, cough, Themselves!!!!)

those were the days.....

Man, how great it would have been if we had won in 2002 like we should have. Again the Jay Leno interview comes to mind. Anyway, it was a great run and they were a great team, and I hope they are often remembered in the category as the best teams to not win a chamionship.

(also, the good riddance song deff fits and i love that song, but i always laugh inside when its used to remember good things when it waas written and meant for the bad times.....Billie Joe Armstrong must hate that its used more for good than bad....*shrugs* too bad for him, its good both ways)
