Yep. Since the turn of the millennium.
Sometimes high school, sometimes middle school. I've learned that basketball in Colorado is not as high intensity as basketball on the east coast. Something about the mountains and their related snow sports.

I was not aware Sacramento Comic Con was going to be so celebrity packed. Shane, Andrea, Merle and Darryl from the Walking Dead.
Stan Lee with a $200 charge. Thor Chris Hemsworth, Captain Kirk, Lando Billy Dee Willaims, 90's Green Ranger (and those aren't just people in costumes).
Ralph Machio the Kararte Kid, Spike from Buffy and Bruce Campbell.

I've never been to one but I would have loved to walk around taking photos and looking at all the pop culture junk at the booths. I should've tried to get the bosses to see if they could've sent me so I can write an article about it haha.

You know, it really gets on my nerves sometimes, how there's not really anywhere online to talk about some of the shows that interest me. Nowhere that could reasonably be considered "active," at any rate. I mean, there are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people online, just waiting for a chance to talk about Doctor Who, or Game of Thrones, or The Walking Dead, and a whole bunch of other shows I don't (and won't) watch. But try and find someone who wants to talk about the latest episode of House of Lies. Just try.
It's like being a fan of the WNBA: I've loved the W, since Day One, and I appreciate all of the league's fans. But (and I apologize, in advance, for the blatant stereotyping)... do you have any idea how sick I am of being the only single, hetero male under forty in the building? How ****ing hard is it to find someone of my general age and background, who likes the same stuff I like?

Awwww, S£immy baby. I used to be a fan of the WNBA but can't maintain interest in any sport that doesn't have a local team. 'Course I'm not under 40 but I do know who Rowdy Roussey (sp?) is. That has to count for something.
I just watched a documentary film "Bruce Lee: the Legend" and got my respect for him enhanced. Even with my medical background, I don't know what caused his death. No one REALLY does. I felt a need to chat about that but sure as heck didn't know where to turn. Not many Bruce Lee fans that are younger than I am.
Still, with the Internet, it is far easier to find someone who shares an interest than in the real world. Pick a subject other than the W and wrestling and try me out. I watch MMA and am always looking for new and interesting subjects to jump into.
Pssst: I'm white and have most of my hair. Maybe the hair thing is a problem for you.

Well, that could be tough... my interests don't honestly stray very far beyond basketball and wrestling.

I respect the hell out of him as a performer, but I've never really been a Bruce Lee fan: only one of his movies (Chinese Connection) makes my personal Top Five. I'm more of a Gordon Liu guy, actually.

This isn't going to go far. I didn't like the first one., They might as well have made a cartoon. I guess with sequels at least you save money on costumes, etc.
Really? I rather enjoyed the first movie; I thought that they did a good job of capturing the essence of Captain America, even if they took some liberties with Hydra.
Perhaps if I'd lived through WW2, as you did, I'd have a different perspective...

A week or two back I overheard some grade schooler talking about Bruce Lee to his friends, explaining the one inch punch. His impact is still echoing around today (probably in part by Wiki pages and YouTube).
Which also reminds me of when I saw The Grandmaster, the story of Bruce Lee's master. It's way more art than martial arts, the entire movie for filmed slow motion and up close crop shots. It was very annoying and I don't recommend it unless you can tolerate an art film disguised as a martial arts movie. Even before the movie things weren't off to a great start when a man in his later 30s sat in front of my friends and said how much he enjoys a good KARATE movie. I'm guessing he is the audience the the Jackie Chan, Karate Kid remake film was targeting.

I watched "Ip Man, the End of a Legend" last night. The first three Ip Man movies were staring Donnie Yen who is a very good actor and martial artist. Last night's was about Ip Man who I suspect is near the end of his life. It ended with Bruce Lee trying to get him to demonstrate Wing Chun, his form of kung fu, in a movie. He seemed to turn down Bruce but Man's son started to film something with a hand held 16mm camera and they showed some of the results which were awful quality. The name of the movie was to be "Ip Man, the Wing Chun Grandmaster." I found it very moving as clearly Ip Man was dying and this was about the time Bruce Lee died. There was very good acting and lots of well choreographed fights. It was mainly a drama with a few fights thrown in.

[minor rant] i have so much trouble summoning even the slightest bit of enthusiasm for the oscars, especially after watching hollywood prance and preen for months leading up to an event that basically functions as the world's biggest self-applied pat-on-the-back...
perhaps it's because i don't work in a place with watercoolers, but i won't make myself care about it. and it seems to me that most other people don't really want to care about it, either. but the oscars, like many such events, double as these strange cultural requirements that we feel compelled to engage with, only to be very glad when they're over so we don't have to hear about them anymore...
i dunno, if i had more friends in sacramento, i'd just invite them over to watch harold ramis movies tonight instead. endlessly quoting ghostbusters and groundhog day seems like a more productive (and fun) use of time. so i guess that's what my wife and i will be doing!! [/rant]

Agreed. I never watch them. Any of the awards shows, actually. Pretty stupid shows overall and the best artists/songs/movies/shows don't always win, which would just torque me if I bothered watching them. Used to catch them every once in a while, but like you I soon figured out I could spend those few hours more enjoyably doing other things.
Except sometimes the CMA's when Brad Paisley is singing, as he creates some very funny **** for those. I just let my wife call me in when he comes on.
