The Stubborn Refusal to Address Defense in the Sacto Era

I find this interesting from the team's twitter feed.

How about getting a plus defender at some point, then?

More evidence our FO and coaching staff are not on the same page.

If this were true or a priority, then why today did we just try to re-sign IT with the apparent plan/hope of running out a Collison/IT/Stauskas/Ben backcourt?
Because it's a significant improvement over last year.

are you really going to compare stats from a 3rd year player who has gotten consistent playing time with the starting line up to a rookie who got about 10 games in at the very end of the season?

good use of analytics btw.

smh hella chippen

Quack, quack.

Ken Berger: Kings scouring the market for a shot-blocker or stretch-four to play alongside DeMarcus Cousins, league source says. Twitter @KBergCBS

Only half of that tweet is good news. Shotblocker yes, but no way do we need some soft stretch 4 considering how non-defensive our roster is right now.

Scouring the market huh? We could have drafted Payton and traded for Sanders and we'd probably be one wing defender shy of a top 10 defensive lineup. It's only hard if you make it hard guys.

Like I said in the other thread, I'll take this as lip service until I see us actually add a defender rather than another shooting softie.

wait.. isn't vonleh a stretch 4? someone smack some sense in them already

lots of bark and no bite .. again. is there more lebron or melo news? that's more interesting than listening to them bs about defense.

The Kings are looking around the league FO a "soft" stretch 4 to play along side Cuz, according to source quoted above.

Not really. Vonleh was billed as a stretch four, but if you look at his shot charts he really didn't take that many out there. See here: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-nba-draft-illustrated-shot-charts-for-the-lottery-picks/

This year Vonleh really seemed to be the prospect where perception least resembled reality.

True but he did hit close to 50% of his 3's on one attempt per game. That at least suggests he can shoot, though you'd like a larger sample size.

A PG guard rotation of Payton and Ray, with SG's..... Ben.....

I'm seeing the lottery balls again.

Thats what im talking about. Wish the front office would come out of the closet about their defense and admit they only like offense.

And now he's not the summer league coach. How interesting ;)

you all think ray mccallum is a better defender than isaiah thomas, right? then how do we explain this? (click this link)

the link shows two lineups that the kings played last season, one with ray mccallum for 123 total minutes and the other with isaiah thomas for 110 total minutes. the lineups are the same otherwise.

the lineup with ray allowed 113.5 points per 100 possessions. standard deviation: 4.9 pts
the lineup with isaiah allowed 93..6 points per 100 possessions. standard deviation 4.3 pts

which implies that isaiah thomas was the better team defender.

for reference,
indiana allowed ~95 points per 100 possessions as a team last year, best in the league.
the following spurs lineup: parker/green/leonard/duncan/splitter allowed ~88 points per 100 possessions and played 262 total minutes.
appropriate time to quote myself after letting IT walk and ray mccallum's great summer league game. we are in some trouble now!

Just so you know? There's NEVER an appropriate time to quote yourself, unless you're admitting you were wrong about something. Anything else just makes you look like an arse.
