The Playoffs... flushed down the drain.....

Hahahaha. It could have been worse. He could have been there with Ann Coulter.

The loofinator and Mann Coulter at the Lakers, what an unpleasant thought.

Several months ago, before this crazy season started, there was a thread that held everyone's predictions for the number of Kings wins and I think where they's be seeded in the playoffs. If I recall, most everyone predicted a 50+ win season (probably except piksi) ;) I myself came in a bit lower than most of the predictions, but was still in the 50 range I think. So, now... here we are. Kings struggling to even get to .500.

No, I don't think they will make the playoffs. They will not come around to a team that can consistently win on the road (or even 1/3 the time), let alone pop up into an 8th or 7th seed. Just as well, we could use a nice draft pick.

On the paper our starting lineup looked great. Everybody was predicting that we will have a decent season.

If Bonzi didn't go down injured we could have recovered earlier. I think Kevin and Garcia are doing great given they are so early in their careers, but Bonzi was are best player early on. Oh well.

As a Cubs fan I know there is always next year :)

Injuries and trades are going to screw up a team.

Look at Dallas, after years of doing dumb crap year after year in the off-season. Cuban finally decides to do almost nothing e/c remove Finley and sign Diop and let Booth go and bam they are contenders.

Sometimes the best option is staying relatively healthy (I know, impossible for the Kings) and letting a team grow.

Hopefully that happens next year. Hopefully there isn't a huge overhaul, and if there is, hopefully it will be done in the offseason rather than during the season. The last 2 years, huge deals have gone on, during the season, thus not helping our team gel by any means.

LOL, where to start with this?
1. Kings had NO chance of going past the first round from the first day of the season.
2. Even after the Ron trade Kings barely stood a chance of squeeking into the numbe 8 slot so we could tne loose to some Texas team in round one.
3. This is still one game... not the end or begining of anything
4. Skinner would not have hit the court untill the last few min just like Samson
5. EVEN IF HE HAD played it would not have mattered
6. Does making the play offs this season with this team really matter?

agreed w/ ALL your statements. i hope we miss the playoffs so we can enter the lottery and get a top 3 pick. just scrap this season and play the kids so they can get some experience. i love how some of these optimists wanna get in the playoffs only to get knocked out 4-0 easily. this team isn't going to get anywhere in the playoffs this season. i don't wanna hear we need the playoff experience. the core guys on this team are vets that are playoff tested.

Aside from the draft I expect at least two additions.

Actually hopefully there is a major overhaul this time now that we are no longer saddled with a delusional view of the capabilities of this bunch.

But I agree it should very much be done in the offseason if possible -- making major deals during the year is normally a sign that you've lacked vision and screwed up and are desperately scrambling to make up for it before the season goes down the drain. Very hard to make work because everything's in chaos and there is not time to get your feet set.

At least now, assuming he stays sane, we have a cornerstone in Artest. But while guys like Brad (especially with his friendship with Ron) and Mike and Cisco and Martin are all guys who are likely kept, there are no guarantees, and I think aside from Ron there is not another single piece on this roster that you 100% bring back, and that includes Rick as well. This year's "vision" for the team did not work, at least partially because it was half-assed. Need to actually develop a whole new idea of what we should look like and then go execute it. And if 6 guys return. Great. If its only 2. Still great. Just so long as the end result makes sense as a coherent whole and we walk into training camp knowing who we are, how we have to play to win, and what we are trying to accomplish.

I meant to give this impression. I want 1 of two things, if we do a trade, make sure it's done early, if we don't do a trade, don't change our minds mid season and blow up the team.

Ah...last two years have been painful. Before the last 2 seasons, we never traded mid season, now it's a common place, a bad common place.

Well put Brick.

I think that for the money you 100% keep Artest, Kevin and Cisco. But if you can use Kevin and/or Cisco to get a better piece, then by all means.

See, that's the thing. No one is untouchable. If Artest will bring you a better player, you trade him.

It's fine and good to say "we need continuity" and "only make trades in the offseason" but the fact is if a good trade comes along you take it no matter when it happens. Unless you find a combination of players that is really really working, which the Kings clearly haven't, you keep reworking things until they work by making the best trade and best signing possible.

I like all the decisions that have been made in recent history (except for Jason Hart, obviously). Let's just hope it keeps on going that way.

thing is, if artest really is a "top 10 player" like so many people say he is (and i agree with them), then there are only gonna be 9 or so guys that you would trade him for...and most of them are "untouchable."

it's important to trade up. it's important not to bleed talent. it's important to keep your options open. but continuity is really important as well, especially considering that basketball players don't age like fine wines and their contracts don't get any cheaper as they near expiration.

how long is the contract w/ jason hart...?

Through next year. So we might be stuck with him as the new Mateen even if we do find a better main backup.

Might always be able to move him as a small ending contract though.

pipedream...but of course I never thought Petrie could unload a few other of our 'deadweight' players before either, i.e.: Bobby Hurley, Nick Anderson.

stays sane?

You mean the "nicotine winning patch" guy? The magic marker shoes guy? I think sane is sort of a long gone concept with this guy, but as long as he's only "relief pitcher crazy", and not "Mike Tyson crazy" it is cool.

I love Ron Artest!

By the way, the playoffs are NOT flushed, we will still make it!

Artest is unique in fun/interesting ways (obviously not the stuff from close to two years ago and before) and I don't think those things above makes him insane.

hopefully before next year...in the offseason, PLEASE!;)

Yeah we have a lot of flexibility this offseason. We have Bonzi to re-sign or s&t, a couple expiring contracts, a pick, some players on cheap contracts people will want(Shareef), and a 2007 pick. Maybe Monia too. Hopefully Geoff can make some nice moves this offseason.
