the Pacers and Kings are exceedingly close to swapping Ron Artest

I was talking with a local sports anchor at the gym this morning and they are trying to follow up on the story that has made the rounds that peja was at UC Davis Med Center last night to take a physical. Sound like an odd story since he is supposed to be in Philly so I guess we will no the truth in a little over 4 hours when the pre-game show starts.

I love this stuff :D

I don't think that part of the rumor going around is true. Generally trade pieces go to a doctor of the NEW team's choosing.

I suspect we'll know something long before game time.

God, I hope this deal happens.
This is starting to pee me off, though. Realgm says that the deal won't happen today but is very close. I want this deal to go down before I go to the Kings/Knicks game tomorrow.

Hey what happened to SAR in the lineup?

Don't get too excited too quickly. Even if there is a deal and it does go down today, there's no guarantee Artest would be in the lineup tomorrow. He hasn't been playing, he hasn't stepped on the court, etc.

realGM doesn't know everything, but then neither does anyone else.

pee you off? Good lord, you're not the only person sitting on the edge of your chair over this.

;)

What is your gut on this VF? And what do you expect to know before game time?

i can't help but get excited. ron artest, despite being a maniacal loose cannon, would be a literal shot in the arm for this team. he's a difference maker, and could be enough to get the kings to the playoffs. i don't know that we'd go very far, cuz artest is not enough on his own to change this team around, but it's a start in the right direction.

ya gotta take risks when your back is up against the wall. petrie took one with webber. he took one with bonzi. he even took a risk with peja stojakovic, who may not have come to the kings at all. if artest for peja is true, it is an undeniable risk. you are quite literally swapping one of the most quiet and non-confrontational players in the league for the league's most notorious malcontent. it could be a disaster. it could also yield very positive results. if i'm the kings, i take that risk every day of the week and twice on sunday. time for change. i can only hope its true...

Even if the deal goes through, Im hoping there is another one, either for KT or Bibby or any of the bench players. Im sure if we don't improve, Artest will make it known how bad Bibby's defense sucks and how xxxxxx plays lazy and pee guys off.

Unless Napier flat out lied yesterday, he was in Philly with the team and had spoken to him a few times. Besides, doesn't the receiving team have to do the physical and not the sending team? And physicals always happen after the trade has been announced.

I still have mixed feelings regarding Artest but I am excited to see whats going to happen with the trade news and if it is Artest how he will play here.

LOL if the bee talks mess about him he may well knock on their doorsteps and TRU WARRIOR them.

that's Tru Warier, to you. ;)

i'm quite interested to see how fans around sacramento on the whole would embrace somebody like artest. webber and wells were nba malcontents when they each came to the kings. webber had a career revival, and it remains to be seen if wells' revival will continue. but neither compares in the slightest to the insanity of ron artest. the guy is flat out nuts. that said, i know i would embrace him and his style of play with open arms. hopefully he wouldn't screw up the opportunity before him, but we'll just have to continue to sit on the edge of our seats, waiting...

My suspicion is that if Peja is traded then Mike and even Brad are here for the long haul, barring a deal that we can't turn down. Also, if Ron were here I really think that we would see a difference in defense not only with Ron, but with everyone. Defense can be contagious and with Ron on the court I don't see how it couldn't be.

You aren't kidding.

I hope that Arco Arena has spare TVs around if this deal happens. :D

Seriously though, I'm all for the deal and definitely would be for trading Bibby and/or KT for a more traditional PG.

If we can trade KT for a more traditional PG like Watson or somesuch ... I'd move Bibby to SG in a heartbeat. I think he'd be more comfortable there ... but that's just my take on it.

Kings fans and Sacramento people in general usually give someone a chance to prove or dissprove themselves before passing judgment. SHOULD this deal go down I would have no doubt at all that it would be the same with Ron Artest. Sure, there might be some rumblings, concerns, etc. (and there's every reason to have some concern), but I would hope at least the members of this board would welcome him and give him an opportunity to show what he can do for our team before anyone decided to crucify him. And I'm pretty confident that's exactly what would happen...

This sure has made a average January day much more interesting, hasn't it?

;)

Agreed. Bibby seems more free on offense when he's been playing with Hart so it makes sense. Bibby is a liability on defense but his offensive production (when he's on) is almost unstoppable.

I'm FLAT OUT with you on this one. This is what we need, and as much as I doubt Adelman these days, he is the best coach for a type like Artest. Let's get'er done!

i think the deal could work in our favor but...

i'm not sure if i'm ready to let go of peja from an emotional standpoint...

:(

Hmmm, I just had a thought-to get more popularity nation wide, the bee could rent an add in ron's hair! I can see it now... "sac bee"

i completely agree....it will probably good for the team, but i have an emotional attachment to peja, bibby, and miller, just like webber so i dont quite know how to feel :(

I would rather let go of Bonzi than Peja. Can't we do that?

I mean, I know Bonzi has played very well for us and he has played with heart (basically the opposite of Peja), but the emotional attachment to him is not as strong as the one I have for Peja (especially since Bonzi's injury has kept him out of action).

With Peja, you'll probably have consistency. You'll know what you'll get. Plus, Peja said he wants to be here now. Bonzi, OTOH, could just, and most likely will, walk at the end of this season. And doesn't JO want Bonzi??

Sooo, if we're going to trade Artest, I'd rather lose Bonzi than Peja.

signed,

emotionally attached fan =|

I've got two jerseys of Peja's I'll send with him to Indiana.:D

aww how sad, im not saying it would be a bad trade, but a sad one at least for me and a few other people
I understand where you are coming from. Its just that I lost the emotional attachment to him a couple years ago. I wish him well, and hope he soon finds a heart.

Here's why I like the idea of the Artest trade:

1) If it goes awry - how much worse could we be? Perhaps the shoo-in for the top pick in the lottery?

2) Artest could be the combustion that can cause a chain reaction on this team. He might be the spark that ignites Reef's and causes him to play with passion? He might be the catalyst that causes Bibby to play some defense and exert similar effort on both sides of the ball? Perhaps he is the key component to force Brad Miller to play the game tough? Perhaps he is the one that will force the bench to continue play and call out those that decide to have issues on the bench? Perhaps he's all these things?

3) It forces the team to try a new style of play. One more condusive to a slower style of offense with a focus on post play.

Pacers fans are less happy about this trade rumor. Was just reading through some threads at Pacersdigest.

Interesting to see how the other side views things.

Well, they may not be happy about it - but if Peja start lighting it up like Reggie Miller ... they won't have many issues.

In my opinion, the key, for them, is that Peja regains his form and his confidence. While the key, for us, is that Artest doesn't go psycho on someone for whatever reason ... hurtling a television at them and killing them on contact.

I don't normally agree with playmaker, but I really do here. Artest is a VERY intense player. Didn't Brad play better d in indy? Well he had artest there, and artest would probably get mike to play better defense too. Not to mention kobe won't be scoring 81 or 51 on us. He is the type of player that will give it EVERYTHING he has. If it blows up in our face well we lost a guy who we got for a guy we were going to lose anyways.
