the Pacers and Kings are exceedingly close to swapping Ron Artest

2 notes there:

1) the Pacers passing on Maggette because of the sprained foot was and is just insanity. Check that, stupidity.

2) If Bird is telling the truth and they are trying for a one for one deal, that ratehr dramatically ups the odds of Peja being the guy.

+ random note: after a year and a half since the rumors first began, and 6 weeks of bumbling since Artest's blowup in December, NOW this long rumored deal might finally go down as a 1 for 1!? I mean, duh.

hmm, they're worrying about Maggette's injury but not Peja's?

Will you guys prefer PP or Artest?
PP to King
Artest to C
Peja to Pacer?

If it's just a sprained foot and he'll make a full recovery I agree completely. However, I heard a rumor that he needs surgery and he needs a screw placed in his ankle, implying the situation is more serious.

Of course, I'd still take Maggette with a screw in his ankle over Peja, but it's not quite as cut and dry.

This is from the NY Post. Yesterday they had Howard Stern on the front page of the paper saying that SIRIUS handed down a memo, and having a meeting about restrictions. As far as censoring him etc. This has been debunked by SIRIUS and Stern and is COMPLETELY false. The NY Post is known to be right near the level of tabloids. I don't believe much that I hear about from the post, until I see it become truth.

After reading this whole thread a couple of good points were made.

My thought after reading that they passed on Maggette my frist thought was, if they'll pass on an ankle that will heal, WHY would they take a guy who has an ailing back that WON'T heal.

Then I saw that there might be a screw involved making the ankle a lot weaker. Although I think the injury is partially ane excuse to pass on Maggette. The best point I've seen so far that puts some creedance behind this rumor is Bird's comment about rather going 1 for 1 and not wanting packaging. That DEFINITELY increases the probability of Peja being the guy because of his current contract, as Bricklayer said above. Also, Peja is kind of a loyal guy. They probably figure if they trade for him they can offer enough to keep him if it works out. And, if not he walks. Then they fill the position.

8) If he was frustrated with the Carlisle system, he might become frustrated with the Princeton too. Ron's game is get the ball and attack, not backcut and spot up.

Do we even run the PO anymore? It seems like we run a mock PO. Then you've got Bonzi and SAR with post-up abilities that are not PO-like at all. I think that Artest could fit into our system. Especially because he must be itching to get back on the court.

Listen, all of you, I mean all of you realize the situation we are in. Artest advocates and haters alike realize that we need defense and intensity along with consistent scoring. Artest fits that bill perfectly.

The only thing Peja is doing better is rebounding. Which isn't hard on a non-rebounding team. Especially when you are 6-10 too. And he is making more of an effort to rebound because he isn't doing anything else. He is turning the ball over more, missing open shots as well as the forced ones, and all around bringing down the morale and confidence of our team. And don't give me this bull**** about nagging injuries. If you're injured, then GET BETTER. If you want to help the team out then stay off the court. Don't hurt our team in your non-rehabilitating process. And you would think that even with all the injuries he could still hit an open shot. For a while now I've seen much more from Francisco Garcia, A ROOKIE.

Don't get me wrong, I like Peja, just not as a King anymore.

The Maloofs have to be watching Peja closely saying for 40% shooting and 17 points, I am not playing this guy 10 million a year for 5-7 years. Plus the T-Raps have the large Serb base. They are the team most likely to offer a max deal. Peja can say now he would rather stay with us, but the difference in the size of the contracts could be 40-50 million!!! When push comes to shove, and the dollars are in front of him are at sizeable discrepancy, he would walk.

Swap him NOW and get something! Roll the dice. With Garcia looking pretty solid, we can afford the risk.

BTW, I am surprised the Pacers have ANY interest in Peja. They are clearing seeing past his current befuddled state and hoping for return to glory. A change of scenery is maybe what Peja could use to revive his game, and inspire a new work ethic aside a real power forward in O'Neal and under Larry Legend.

If the Clips, Kings and Pacers are all interested in this trade I dont see why a 3 team trade can't happen with some added salary throwins.

Peja-> Pacers
Artest -> Clips
Maggette-> kings

I call BS on Maggatte's Sprained ankle theory.

I've been thinking along similar lines. IIRC there are several guys in Peja's price range that could be swapped. Don't know if Ron-Ron is coming here if Peja gets traded - might be a 3-team deal....

Before I get to excited, I remember that there was nearly an identical trade-rumor thread about this exact same trade "Almost sure to happen" some time last year.

Turned out to be a whole misunderstanding, and none of it was remotley true.

However, I'll be crossing my fingers, and hopefully when I get home at 6, I'll be able to see a brand new Sacramento King.

One that knows the meaning of the word passion!

My fingers are crossed...Get it done, Geoff...

I don't think that after all of this time and proposed deals that it all ends this quickly. I agree with someone else who said earlier that this trial balloon being floated out of Indy is nothing more than a notice to those most interested to ante up your best deal because we're ready to pull the trigger, especially after everyone was aware of the summer talk of Peja for Artest which makes it that much more a credible threat.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :)

Myabe Q/Crawford and Frye. Can't think of anyone else.

Thomas keeps saying that Frye is untouchable...along w/ Nate Robinson and David Lee. They might be willing to get rid of Ariza, whose collecting dust at the end of Brown's bench. However, I dont think that Indiana wants to deal Artest to any team in the east. If I were them, I wouldnt want to face that nutjob 4x a year! :eek:

Webb was traded last year at the beginning of a 6 game road trip and I think that generally the front office would rather make a trade like this while the team is away for a while rather than if they were home. I think something is going to happen before this road trip is over.

Peja has a whooping 19 steals in 31 games and 1148 total minutes.

Ron Artest has twice as many steals, 42 total, in 19 games, over 2PPG, in half as many minutes, total of 605 minutes.

BRING ON THE DEFENSE!!!!

D-FENSE! D-FENSE! D-FENSE!!!!!

1. Trade Peja for Artest
2. Hire Terry Porter (sorry RA, but your time is up)
3. Resign Bonzi

Bibby
Bonzi
Artest
SAR/KT
Miller

I was talking with a local sports anchor at the gym this morning and they are trying to follow up on the story that has made the rounds that peja was at UC Davis Med Center last night to take a physical. Sound like an odd story since he is supposed to be in Philly so I guess we will no the truth in a little over 4 hours when the pre-game show starts.

I love this stuff :D

There was a time I didn't want the Kings to touch Artest with a 10-foot pole. But that's changed. I mean, what's the real risk? If they do nothing, the Kings probably finish last in their division. If they made the deal and Artest implodes, the finish last in their division (and are stuck with his contract for another 3 years).

But the more likely scenario, I think, is that Artest comes here and is on his best behavior for the rest of the season and gives the Kings a shot of energy and the fans a shot of hope. If Artest has any sanity at all, he'll want to make a good impression. As has been stated, Rick has a way with wayward players. Beyond that, Kings fans are famous for embracing new players who have an impact, and if Artest feels the love, maybe he'll reach peak performance.

And if that happens, the Kings can decide whether to keep him or trade him. To me, it's a no-brainer. It's like buying a run-down house, giving it a fresh coat of paint and new carpet, and re-selling it for a $100K profit. You get Artest playing well, re-establish his value, and then move him over the summer for a player or players who can help to speed up the rebuilding process. Because this much is certain: Artest will have incidents in the future. It's the nature of the beast.
