Only way I can see this team making the playoffs is if we make at least one trade (Koufos & Collison?) and get these youngsters some burn. Richardson/Skal and wouldn't it be something if even Papagiannis got on the court and contributed a little.
Didn't Vlade himself say that Papa was going to be a long term project and wouldn't contribute for like 3 years? I would be surprised if he sees more than an hour of court time the rest of this season and I think I am being very generous.

Which is highly unlikely given the fact that 15-5 would be the best stretch of 20 games the Kings have ever had since Cousins has joined the team. In fact the last time the Kings saw that much success in a 20 game stretch at home, Ron Artest was still Ron Artest and he was on the team. Something tells me they won't be breaking that streak given the fact they are reeling in the last 18 games with a 5-13 record. Kings going from worst basketball of the season to best basketball in 10 years? I kinda doubt that.
Kings are also going from toughest month of the season to easiest month of the season. That doesn't mean 15-5 of course, but that team on the long road trip was playing close to its BEST basketball of the season, not worst. It just also had a brutal schedule at the same time.

In the last 18 games they are 5-13. That's .277 basketball and the worst winning % of the season. I understand they "mostly" competed hard and were in a number of those games and got some bad calls but the record is what the record is. Generally teams that make the playoffs find a way to squeak some of those close games out. Unfortunately the Kings haven't found out how to do that. And as far as the month getting easier the Kings have been notorious for letting their guard down when it's supposed to be easy.

It really is all about finally establishing homecourt for us now. We have the road record of a low level playoff team (actually we have a better road record than 4 of the 8 Eastern Conference playoff teams, including the #4 seed 28-20 Wizards). We have the home record of a 20 win team. here is how our home/road record compares in the Conference:

Road Records, By Percentage:
1) GSW .833 20-4
2) SAS .800 20-5
3) HOU .621 18-11
4) UTH .565 13-10
5) LAC .542 13-11
6) MEM .520 13-12
7) OKC .444 12-15
8) SAC .393 11-17
9) DEN .375 9-15
10) MIN .318 7-15
11) POR .308 8-18
12) DAL .280 7-18
13) PHX .280 7-18
14) NOH .272 6-16
15) LAL .192 5-21

Home Records, By Percentage:
1) GSW .875 21-3
2) HOU .782 18-5
3) SAS .739 17-6
4) OKC .727 16-6
5) LAC .708 17-7
6) UTH .654 17-9
7) MEM .640 16-9
8) POR .583 14-10
9) DEN .522 12-11
10) NOH .481 13-14
11) LAL .480 12-13
12) DAL .478 11-12
13) MIN .462 12-14
14) SAC .381 8-13
15) PHX .345 8-15

You can see all our competitors are right around .500, for POR and DEN, a bit above. With our superior road work, if we could reach that level at home, we are in a good spot. And now that sweet spot is here. We don't leave California for a solid month. We are home and home and home, and take just a few little jaunts around the state. Unfortunately we do it now without our #2, and who knows how long without our best defender.
I'd hardly call 11-17 superior.....and even if looked at in context of other teams it's the median - average.

Its the 12th best road record in the league. It would be the 5th best road record in the East. And its absolutely superior to the road records of all of our competitors. Who BTW have played fewer road games than us and so have more games to play at very low win %s for them.

Our problem is at home. If our home win% was the same as our competitors' for the #8 spot, we'd be looking at them all in the rear view mirror.

Notice you didn't bother to list the Eastern conference teams in your original post. And you're throwing around the word superior. The Kings are not superior to anyone in anything in the NBA right now save the Nets. Yes, they're better than Phoenix and the Lakers too (right now).
I was refering to the WC....I think that was pretty evident from my criticism. The WC teams are whom the Kings are directly competing against for a playoff spot.

There is also this. Here are our home opponents, and their records, both up to this point, and from this point forward:

So far:
SAS 37-11
MIN 19-30
NOH 19-31
LAL 17-34
SAS 37-11
LAC 30-18
TOR 30-19
OKC 28-21
HOU 36-16
NYK 22-29 (although winning team when they hit town)
LAL 17-34
POR 22-28
PHI 18-29 (playing better since this game)
MEM 29-21
MIA 20-30
LAC 30-18
GSW 41-7
DET 22-27
CLE 33-15
OKC 28-21
IND 26-22
-------------------
Tot: 561-472 .543

Rest of the season:
PHX 15-33
GSW 41-7
CHI 24-25
BOS 30-18
ATL 28-21
NOH 19-31
CHA 23-26
DEN 21-26
MIN 19-30
BKN 9-40
UTH 30-19
WSH 28-20 (and rem they are a terrible 8-14 road team)
DEN 21-26
ORL 19-32
MIL 21-26
MEM 29-21
UTH 30-19
DAL 18-30
HOU 36-16
PHX 15-33
--------------------
Tot : 476-489 .493

Hardly seems fair of course but that's playing in the West. Nonetheless, by record our home opponents so far have been nearly .50 points stronger than our home opponents for the rest of the season. Our home stands are longer, there are more of them, and we will be playing weaker teams. Unfortunately we are beginning to lose key personnel so we'll have to see how it plays out, but the opportunity remains to make up ground.

On draft day, Vlade initially said he expected Papa to contribute as much as WCS did last year. That sentiment basically went out the window in Summer League.

I've always taken superior to mean much better, not merely higher or better -- I think of it first in this definition: Of great value or excellence; extraordinary. That's what I usually hear in conversation.

When I say a team is superior, I define it in context of MUCH BETTER than another team. And the same connotation flies with its antithesis word, inferior. These

Hey remember those Dallas Mavericks that were terrible and all? We've got the same record!
I assume you're making reference to how exciting the race for the 8th seed is this year right.....?

6 teams within three games and we're in the mix, that must be what you were getting at. I'm sure you didn't mean to come across as purposefully negative about the Kings, the team we all support.

No I'm referring to how great a team we are with those proven winning vets and top-notch defense and that point differential. Oo boy that point differential. We're a lock for the playoffs given the tight race - even if we end up 3 games behind we just have to play our "Dave Joerger - add 10 wins to the team" card.

Your assumption that a fan of a team can't be negative about the team that they support is also a very flawed one.

To be fair you're right. I shouldn't have suggested that fans can't be negative and/or criticise they're team. That is your prerogative and everyone gets a bit critical sometimes. I'm sure you balance it out with some positive opinions.......

Reasonable fans are negative and criticize the team because they don't think that the way the team is going is the right way. I am far less optimistic about the "culture change" and whatnot that making the playoffs this year with this roster would actually bring about. Ultimately we are lacking in talent, and squeezing into the playoffs with 35 wins isn't going to change that. But such arguments have been well detailed by those far more intelligent and eloquent than myself, so I shall leave it at that.

ESPN just posted their top 25 under 25 players in the NBA. Even Thon Maker is on it. NO Kings players listed. VERY frustrating because even if ESPN is biased, no one can argue this isn't true. I tried to post but because it is Insider it does not copy and paste.

Okay, let's be honest. I cannot remember a time when you were ever optimistic.
