To be fair, if it was a contest of talent, I think Michael Jackson would have to win. Dude was amazing. Had it all. Hugely influential, too. I still regularly listen to his music. It's a shame that he changed himself so much.

Ah, but in order to truly rate "talent" you could argue that only those alive to hear ALL the names on the list while they were still living should be eligible. And that would most likely narrow it down to me, 6th and maybe one or two others.

The thing is, you cannot truly rate something as subjective as talent. Even dissonance sounds great sometimes.

The only way to truly quantify it, is with records sold. I think we all know that is not the true measure of talent or value.

Look at it this way. A lot of people love to disagree with me, so I might actually have saved Nirvana.

I guess you're right. And I suppose that talent is subjective, as kingzrool suggested. That said, I still think MJ is one of the best performers ever. Has so many good tracks, and his singing ability is just crazy.

Truly a world icon. Shame about all the other stuff.

I respectfully disagree. I'm not stubborn...I just like them significantly more than Bruce Springsteen.

To me, they were (and are) good. They may not have changed music the way we know it today (although I wish they had), but they certainly changed music for a solid decade. I have never idolized Cobain at all and have never seen him as some sort of martyr. I just like their music, gave them a plus one, and that's it. Perhaps any band under 30 points right now should just be eliminated...then the Beatles, U2, Marley, and AC/DC can duke it out and save us all a lot of time.

It's not like we're going to run out of TDOS any time soon. It's still only May. I'm enjoying this thread. It's interesting to see the taste in music AND the strategies being employed.

Having said all that, I still don't understand Nirvana still being here when Carlos Santana is gone.

Agree. Although Nirvana might not be as talented as the other groups are/were, but they are the band who put Grunge on the music map, IMO.

Somebody needs to accumulate 420 extra votes over the 10 they started with, and the best anybody has done is 26 so far.

Overall, Bob Marley is 36/430 of the way there. Beatles are 35/430 of the way there.
