When you don't have a horse in a race, you have two paths. You can choose not to watch or you can watch because you love the sport itself, even if you don't have a favorite to root for.
Watching this year's NBA Finals is a little like that but with a couple of exceptions. First, this Kings fan was a Celtics fan before the Kings came to Sacramento so it's not too difficult for me to get back to rooting for the guys in green at least for this series.
Second, and perhaps more importantly, they're facing the dreaded, hated Lakers. To see the Lakers once again come up against the Celtics in the finals is classic in the truest sense of the word. And, as many Kings fans have said, when the Kings aren't playing their favorite team becomes whichever team is playing the Lakers.
While the Lakers have made it to the finals more often, the Celtics win almost every time they make it. Boston has gone to the big show 19 times in the past and walked away with 16 trophies. And when they face the Lakers, they have a very impressive 8-2 record.
So, for me at least, it's all about GO CELTICS!!!
In other news, we're still waiting to see if Ron Artest will opt out of his contract but there's every indication he's going to choose to remain a King. Two recent additions to RonRon's resume are game broadcasting and talk-show appearances. In all fairness, Artest has done a pretty good job of both. His love of the game is obvious and he had some very good observations when he sat in with Jim Kozimor and Krista Blunt at a recent Monarchs broadcast. It's clear he's very personable as his various stints on the Carmichael Dave show have further indicated.
We're also watching the mock drafts to see whom Geoff Petrie will decide to add to the fold. There are a lot of active draft discussions in the Personnel Moves forum which is, in fact, our most active forum this time of year.
Looking around the board, there are several interesting threads in the Lounge revolving around tropical or desert islands and what/who you'd want if you were going to spend the rest of your life on one of said oases. While they're in the middle of their various drafts, the general KF membership will eventually be voting on whose island they'd consider the best.
The Monarchs season is in full swing and if you want to talk about the WNBA, our Monarchs forum is the place to be.
TDOS may have come early this year for Kings fans but, as always, there's plenty to do here at Kingsfans.com to keep your interest.
Check it out!
