Tomorrow, there will be another battle between Phelps and Cavic on the world championship in swimming. Phelps won on the Olympics, but there was lot of suspicion about who touched the wall first. Cavic broke the world record today in semi finals so it's gonna be interesting to see the finals.

Actually, the replay clearly showed Phelps touching the wall first. They played it numerous times and you could see it. It's decided by computers anyway, not humans. You either touch the pad first or you don't.

Well, people from FINA actually said that Cavic did hit the pad first, but not strong enough to make the computer react.

That's what 100ths of a second will do. Phelps had a miniscule fraction of second more moemntum going into the pad. Cavic's pad responded too, but a miniscule fraction of a second slower than Phelps. Phelps just went into the pad with a hairsbreadth more momentum. That's why where you are in your stroke can make a difference, too.

I'm no Phelps jocker, but I don't understand how anyone can determine decisively that he hit the pad if it didn't register. It certainly registered 100th of a second later, so maybe the pad knows something the human eye doesn't?

I would certainly think so. That's why they went to pads some years ago. It used to be refs in each lane looking down. (I'm old. :p)

It will start around 10:30 am, I am talking about Sacramento time. As for the channel, I have no clue, since I live in Serbia:)
awww.... I just tuned in and it was the post-race interview. missed a pretty exciting race - Phelps by .13 seconds

In last 50 meters, Phelps was swimming like Superman:)
Both of them are great, but Phelps is still little faster. Cavic won in 50 meters race, so he has one gold anyway... good enough to "force" 100.000 people to make him celebration when he comes home.:)

I didn't see it, but it must have been a great race to watch with an exciting finish. It's always good on both sides to have an opponent who pushes you to your best.

Memo to future swimming hopefuls: Be very careful of taking away one of Michael Phelp's records, especially if you want your name in the record book for more than a day or two.

WTG, Phelps!!!
