Support for 6th thread

Thanks, Proph. I appreciate your ideas. And, hugs back at ya, my friend.

Thanks, arwen. I hear ya. 1 week tomorrow.

She's doing great. Thank You. I'm really glad I was able to come down here for her..and for me. :) Thanks again, 6th...I BELIEVE IN YOU!!

6th, ya know you have so much love here!!! ^_^

Just take one day at a time and go from there. I know the journey will be somewhat difficult in the beginning (heard from people) but with discipline I am sure you will get through it.

When the craving starts to kick in, you could bake goodies, cross stitch or workout. Or better yet watch "Everyone Loves Raymond" because Ray always gives me a good laugh. Just do whatever that makes you feel good!!

Hang in there Girlfriend!! :)

Dear 6th,

I AM SO VERY PROUD OF YOU!!! This is very very good news. I'm with you 100%. If ever you crave a stick, have a carrot stick instead.

*Hugs*

-Steph =)

I echo everybody's posts.

As I said in another thread Ive been ciggy free since Dec 23, 1997. Its not easy! Just take it day by day 6th.

Soon you will feel freakin fantastic. You'll actually be able to breathe and taste food.

Keep it up!

i thought of another good reason for ya 6th: think off all the 2nd hand smoke you'll be eliminating so the non smokers of the world don't have to be at risk for all those nasty things smokers are at risk for. so you could help others as well as yourself :)

hang in there!!!! i support you 1000%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the continued support, everybody. I may be going through "hell week" as they call the 1st week of nicotine withdrawal, but I am rich with friends.

I finally got myself out to the store (snow is melting) and bought myself all kinds of things to "nibble" on. I got some baby carrots, celery, grape tomatoes (I just love those things), munch ems, bagel crisps, raisins, twizzlers, pretzel sticks (the fat free kind), and some sugar free hard candies. So, I am all set when that urge gets overwhelming again. Not to mention, all I have to do is pop online and get a little support from my friends.

Okay, now for my quit counter update:

smoke free time: 1wk...1hr...30min...43sec
dollars saved: $31.78
cigs not smoked: 211
life saved: 17 hr 35min

Oh, and to "treat myself" for my 1 week smokefree milestone, I took my mom and myself to breakfast after Church this morning. It was lovely!!!

6th!!! WOW, congrats on your first week! I've heard you say (between the lines) that this is a LOVE/HATE relationship. Think of it this way: Your love for YOURSELF has been winning for one week, YAHOO!!! :D

I am a smoker, and what I hate most about being addicted to smoking(besides health concerns) is the smell--on my breath, clothes, car and house. I use "cover ups" for all of these, but when I go out of town and open my suitcase at my destination, all the cleaning products in the world cannot mask that smell that comes from my suitcase, YUCH.

Anyway, here's my suggestion: Clean all your curtains, pillows and bedding. It'll be no time before you can even smell again, surely you can smell other people by now after they have smoked, and isn't it gross? :p

You are doing great, I've heard that the first three days are the hardest, and you have those licked. Addicts/Alcoholics live by the term "One Day At A Time", and sometimes it's "One MINUTE at a time".

P.S. Try not to gain too much weight, this could be discouraging and has actually made some people I know jump off the wagon.

Your friend,
Albeitrue.

Thanks, dear. I like what you said about my love of myself winning. That is a way cool thought.

Don't let them fool you. Just so you know, when you decide to quit, the 1st 3 days were hard, but they were nothing compared to days 4-6. Go back and read VF21's last post in this thread (I think). She offers a good explanation of why that is the case.

BTW - it is still not easy (don't imagine it will be for awhile), but today is much easier than the past 3 have been. :)

May be true scientifically...but I have experience with quitting also (sigh :o ). The alcohol I picked up later helped me start up smoking again. Although I'm no longer drinking, the cigarette habit is still lingering and the hubby smokes more than I do (and, unfortunately, he's still drinking too). For me, the third day was the worst, I still remember it well...

Hopefully this will all be but a faded memory for you, when you buy yourself something really nice with the $1,652.56 it looks like you can save by the end of the year! Geez, that's $137.71/month. And you only smoked one pack a day? That's what I smoke! My hubby smokes 3 packs a day. We could buy another house if we both quit smoking...

That's why I don't drink anymore otherwise I would start smoking again. And I, too, remember my third day being worst day of them all. I do hope someday you will get the urge to try and stop smoking.

6th -- Everyone is different on when they had their worst/better days. After not smoking since Feb 2001, I still get urges every once in a while. Now, I know how to handle the urges better.

Happy 1st week anniversary.

6th, a word of advice -- don't try the gum.

My ex did and she had to start smoking again to drop the new gum addiction.

CONGRATULATIONS 6th! WTG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it up!!

and albeit....if you consider that almost nothing is done perfectly the first time, if you consider the others practice runs, you're doing fine. and now would be a good time for you to quit. ;)

Thank you Rockmeister and Prophetess, I've been thinking about it and now 6th has me jealous! But enough about that.

6th....THIS IS YOUR THREAD!!!

GO 6TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO MORE SMOKE-BREATH.........

6th, quick -- find someone to kiss.

I'm cheering for you 6th!!!!

I can't remember who said this but, "If you you can't, then you must. And if you must then, you can." So.....I know you can!!

Last year I started an exercise/heathly eating routine because I was tired of being tired. When I started to go after anything that really wasn't helping, I told myself, It's not in the project plan. That helped me to stay away from certain foods and it helped me get into better shape which was the project at the time. And that project is still going on.....
Those cigarettes aren't in your project plan, so leave 'em behind.....

You're doing great!!!!!:D

Thanks, Gadget. God, that gum is horrible. Blech!! Anyway, I am using no nicotine replacement therapies. It is cold turkey for me. I figured if I wanted the nicotine out of my system, the sooner the better. Besides, if I wanted the nicotine, I'd have kept smoking. ;)

I'm proud of you, my friend, but not at all surprised. After all, as I said before, you're a KINGS fan. You're used to conquering adversity!!!

:D

Think about this: You are NOW a non-smoker. Pretty cool, huh?

Not a former smoker; not a recovering smoker. You are a NON-SMOKER.

Woohoo! I go down to the VA in a couple of weeks to see a podiatrist (still having occasional trouble with my plantar faciaitis) and they always ask do you smoke. I will be able to say NO!!!!!! :D

Sorry for jumping in late, but I wish you luck in your endeavor. If you ever waver, think friends/family then think emphysema. Kind of a downer to think about, but a sobering reminder of what's at stake. Also remember that it's never too late to dramatically improve the health of your lung tissue, doesn't matter how long you've been smoking.

6th, I am VERY proud of you!!! :D I've been trying to quit, and I've gone the cutting back gradually route. I don't know if this would work for you, but I've found it to be very effective for me...drink lots of water. For me, it has cut back on the amount of cravings I have, and it's cleansing my system faster. Of course, it makes long trips even longer (there really need to be more rest areas along the interstate), but I'll be thankful in the long run.

You have my prayers, and I'm taking inspiration from you!! You can do this!!!:D :D :D
