Superhero Redux Draft

#31
My Pick:

Peter Petrelli (Heroes-Season 2)

Peter's original ability is to mimic the powers of others, acquiring powers simply by being near someone.
Anything you can do, he can do better. He can do anything better than you. Kind of unfair really, to absorb the other guys power.

So we just had our first time-out, yes? And now it's vikinginferno, then xrzn and then me, except if SLAB makes it in time?

Also, @venom: Why don't you just say "Petrelli before he lost his abilities and was restructured in a way that had him not be ridiculously more powerful than anyone else on that show."

Isn't it geraldwallace's turn?

No, no, no, no wait...

The scratch guys get a head start, it's inferno's turn. Jespher's here, maybe he could clear up the confusion.

My pick is none other than....

With super-absorbent abilities, shape shifting, regeneration, and durability, I probably have the greatest superhero of all time.

I must say the pick of Sponge Bob was awesome.

You may have just had...(To the tune of "Best Day Ever")

::In Sponge Bob voice::
The Best Pick Everrrrrrr!

(I work with kids, so I am in the know about Sponge Bob :p)

Sponge Bob? Not bad, not bad at all. I think I'll go a more traditional route, though (despite the strong urge to pick Tyreke Evans):

Dr. Manhattan (Watchmen)

There are several things I like in my superheroes, being omnipotent is definetely among them. For those who know neither film nor comic, Dr. Manhattan once was a physicist, who was disintegrated in one of his machines. However, after a few months his disembodied consciousness managed to assemble a new body and with it came basically godlike powers. He can manipulate matter, doesn't age, is impervious to...well anything basically, can travel in time and doesn't need anything to sustain himself. I've even heard people say that he introduced life on Mars, although I don't think that that is a conclusion you can draw from the story.

Anyway, to sum up, what he can do: Anything he wants to. What he can't do: Die. Not necessarily great for him, but helpful for my purposes. Also not great for him: I *will* make him wear trousers.

Gotta get some heavy hittin' eye candy before they're all recruited (and you would not believe how difficult it was to get this one to pose for a tasteful image! It involved... well never mind.)

Emma Frost
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emma_frost

The ultimate girl gone wild gone good. She is among the five most skilled telepaths on the planet; she can transform into organic diamond for added toughness; she's an electronics expert and inventor, and she's rumored to possess latent telekinetic powers. Now if only I can keep concentrating long enough to accommodate her forceful personality :D

That was quick!

Now that I have my muscle, it's time to go with some leadership.

Detective Vic Mackey -- The Shield

This guy is simply a badass. He is the hero of the show and a damn good cop, but that does not mean the guy won't dabble in some wrongdoing. In the very first episode he shot one of his partners in the face to preserve the rest of his STRIKE team.

He is cunning, manipulative, and will do what he has to do to get the bad guys off the street.

Behind the muscle of THOR, this guy will be a terror.

It has come to my attention that the end of these drafts feel they are getting the short stick due to it being non-serpentine. As a compromise, and to prevent too much confusion of turns in an already confusing draft it has been suggested that drafting order reverses after round 3. Please give me your 2 cents regarding this rule change :).

Another suggestion: do it snakeish from now on. Since it's a five pick draft, the first drafter would have the first pick of three rounds anyway, just that now, it's been the first pick of the first two rounds. Should be enough of an advantage, I think. I'd strongly suggest serpentine for the supervillain draft as well, especially since in that one, there are more drafters (I have the third pick in that draft, btw, which is to say that this is not just politicking to my advantage).

I pick:
Jean Gray/Phoenix (Marvel Comics)

Simply put, Jean Gray in the Phoenix state is the most powerful cosmic being in the universe, outside of the Sentry.

Phoenix said:
I am always Jean Grey and always the Phoenix.

Soo...nobody else cares about the draft order? Alright, complaint withdrawn, in this draft it probably doesn't really matter anyway. So, second pick, for real this time:

René/The Haitian (Heroes)

Again: I still think not drafting the Haitian would be a mistake. As already explained his two abilities are memory-erasing (not so interesting) and the suppression of powers (*very* interesting). Since it appears that not everybody is clear on this, René can suppress selectively, meaning that it's possible for him to exclude from his powers those that he identifies as friends. In reality (or quasi-reality) a couple of supervillains come to the island, ready to wreak havoc and suddenly find themselves powerless and facing a giant blue good-as-deity. Of course, this powerlessness, at least in the case of the most powerful villains would only be temporary, but even the least bit of time would be more than enough for Dr. Manhattan (admittedly, most things would be enough for him, but still).

Need some sword-strength.

Since he's the epitome of "good guy"; he's the dude who pulled the sword from the stone; he's the dude who found the holy grail (and his father is already on another island):

Sir Galahad

What's his superpower? Divine grace! So good he makes your teeth hurt. Check out the statue; I want a statue.

Quick rules question. Are we going to follow the guidance of the All-time Kings draft by allowing trades and let undrafted heroes be swapped out for those on a roster (first come, first serve style) after the draft is over?

I'll put that question to the group. Let me know what the consensus is :).

This one is going fast!

Since Ive been retro-playing my Super Nintendo.

A fully charged Link from Zelda: Link to the Past.
This guy has all a hero needs. Within his possession he has the dreaded boomerang, a lethal hookshot, and some magic powder capable of turning an individual into a glasses-wearing electric cactus!!!

And beyond the terrifying list above he also has 3 spells bestowed upon him by the Ancient Elders (Well, one was given to him by a fish he disturbed), a legendary sword, and a legendary spin attack that is forever associated with his game.

And he saved some 8+ princesses trapped within diamonds.
He is just one hell of a hero.

Sure, why not. Unless of course anything massively unbalanced were to happen (think Gasol to the Lakers).
