Super Hero Draft Anyone?

#1
So here’s another draft idea spawned fro the Rock Band thread. I was wondering if anyone would be interested. We need 15 more people. The premise is as follows:

Lucky You! You’ve just inherited a tropical island from a relative that you didn’t know you had. It’s a beautiful island with a house, renewable utilities, and all the comforts of home. It has a fishing boat, and a nice lagoon to dock it in, a tropical forest rich with fruit, scenic rivers with waterfalls, rope swings, and a tree house for the kids. It has a helipad for entry, and a network of roads in place so you can get around.

Unfortunately, your neighbors are less than hospitable, and are pretty ticked that your relative gave the island to you and not them. Neighboring your island are strongholds of 5 super villains intent on invading your new home. You don’t have a lot of money for a security system, and since it is located outside the U.S. you are ineligible for National Guard or military assistance. Bummer.

Luckily, some superheroes have heard of your plight, and they love tropical islands too. They’ve agreed to help protect your island from the neighbors in return for room, board, and a chance to surf you’re epic beaches.

Since there is limited room in the guesthouse, and you don’t have a lot of money for transportation, you can only afford to accept 5 superheroes on your island, so you decided to have open tryouts. May the Best 5 win.

Some Rules:

No villains may be chosen in the draft, the significant other doesn’t want them to conspire against you and besides; they’re a bad influence on the kids. If a villain became a hero, or a hero became a villain then they might count, depending on my mood, and their popular status as a hero or villain (Colossus Yes, Sabertooth, No).

You must choose heroes that have already been created and published and popularly known (Comics/TV/Movies/Etc.). The categories are broad enough to pick from already existing ones, thanx.

Superheroes must live on or be able to travel to earth. It's pretty hard to draft someone who couldn't be present.

Please bear in mind that though the heroes have their own guest houses, and won’t be living directly with your family, you will have to share an island with them, and they will have to live close to each other, so pick accordingly. Personality goes a long way.

No repeats, if a hero is picked to defend an island, how can they also defend your island too? Not allowed.

Timed out picks will not be lost, just be hasty with making them up. 24 hour limit to pick, and write up/pictures/videos are nice things to include if they apply/you can find them.

Team leaders and hierarchy are recommended but not required. The same applies with team name.

Though you have your own set of super heroes, only the most popular team after a voting playoff will receive the all-important trophy, as that is where the glory lies.

Super Villain neighbors include:

The Red Death:
A crimson fellow who delights in disease and necromantics. He loves to raise the undead after hours, curse random civilians, and magically make a nuisance. His ghouls are strong and dumb, and his skeleton minions can breath underwater (Skeleton fish?). He loves mutating the insects around his house, and gives them extra wings, large size, fangs, and bad BO. He is an evil genius with a penchant for plotting elaborate, cunning schemes. He delights in weather working, and sends tidal waves your way, making for rough sailing. His island is of course shaped like a skull, and is centrally located, with nice bay windows for the view.

Aerial Head Ed:
A hyper, ethereal character who despises cluttered spaces. He can fly, and imbue his mercenaries with flight as well. He is also wicked quick, as he has discovered how to accelerate exponentially. Ed can also make himself and his minions ethereal at will, making it tough to get your hands on him. His island floats off the ocean, and migrates with the tide. He employs flocks of seagulls to poop on your windshield. How annoying!

Replicating Rachel:
Rachel has the ability to replicate her form at will. This process takes about 10 seconds (fast huh?) and creates a lot of goop. The replicants are then free to replicate themselves, or not, and so on. All replicants are telepathically linked, so although they are individuals, they have a group mind. This telepathy furthermore comes in handy as Rachel can utilize it to telepathically link to her targets, and use telekinesis to move object with her mind (she’s mental I tell you). Rachel stands around 5’5”, has sharp pointy teeth, long claws for fingernails, and has great hair.

Rachel’s replicant goop acts as quick healing salve (making her immune to diseases, acids, and sunburn), and this oil also changes color like natural camouflage. The goop can be secreted at will as well. Replicant wax, and bony projection can also be secreted by any Rachel replicant when desired, with the wax acting as a sticky structure to build webs, projectiles, traps, ropes, etc., and the bony projections to be used as weapons, projectiles, walls, and misproportioned totems of your mother. Rachel loves caves, and her island is full of tunnels (Neato).

Elemental Autumn:
This lass combines the fury of fire, the grace of water, the epic power of wind, and the strength of earth. She can shape these elements, take their form, and create elementals from it to do her bidding. Furthermore, she has become proficient in evil botany, and can utilize fungal and plant characteristics herself. She can spring poison tendril traps, and pollute your garden with stone acorn shrubs (Beware!). Her garden island is equipped with estuaries and irrigation canals housing her army of crab people. These things are ugly, strong, mean, and rude, but they do taste good.

Techno Troy:
This mischievous neighbor delights in creating mechanical carnage. He unleashed devastating robots to do his bidding, ray guns, and maybe some electronic sharks with friggin laser beams on their heads. Though he sounds dorky, he is the strongest of the super villains (like super super strong), spending his lunches working out while organizing the quantum physics of his helium death device in his head. Word around the corner is he is working on a blaster that negates super powers, and a decrepifying device that shifts the age of the target by several years (Makes you go ga ga).

He has devised a way to finance his evil regime by absorbing energy and redirecting it as he chooses, giving him the ability to absorb any electrical, magical, solar, and kinetic attacks, and redirect or store the energy. He can utilize the geothermal energy from his island to modify crystals into precious (though synthetic) gems and metals, and can sell them to others to finance his mechanical minions.

Very clever premise, Jespher. Nice work...

I just don't know enough superheroes, other than the obvious classics, to get involved, but I plan on following as it looks pretty interesting.

If this one doesn't start until after the two(cars, ipod) I'm already involved in, I'll sign up. :D

I'm fairly sure I can come up with 5. ;)

Ditto that. I love the comic book characters and movies, but never read many as a kid so my comic hero knowledge (beyond the bare essential basics) is woefully inadequate. I'll watch and enjoy.

No time like the present to learn. You'd be surprised what you might come up with...

As mentioned in another proposed draft thread, we might well end up tabling these new ideas until next TDOS. Much like the Word Game, the draft threads are a special and unique part of TDOS that will, much like summer vacation, come to an end once the regular season starts.

Maybe it could be longer if you used comic book characters instead of just the heros. This would be another good one for next TDOS!

#13
hell yeah. next TDOS though. My list will be Marvel dominated.

and any attempt to take Edward Brock/Venom will be viewed as a personal attack. That pick will be void, and said drafter will be banned.

you stay away from Marvel. hmm, and DC while you're at it. :p

Venom's a villain in my book Venom, so he's off limits anyways.
False. He's actually had his own comic series where he was the hero. So if its superheroes it has to be all superheroes, not just exclusive superheroes that only did heroic things.
By that logic Spiderman and Wolverine are off-limits.

If he is indeed eligible, you better hope you get a higher pick than I do ;)

If this is a go, I'm in. I didn't get into any of the other drafts, and my extensive comic-reading history has got to be good for something besides impressing chicks. ;)

I'll only be impressed if you can tell me what series Glenn Johnson inked. and who Kelley Jones is. :p

I know of a Glen (sp?) Johnson who wrote Tales Of A Sun Runner. Kelley Jones? Easy. Local guy who worked on Sandman with one of my all time faves, Neil Gaiman. I think Jones did a Batman series too, not sure. Nothing a quick Google can't tell me. Yup. He did.

Are my villains too over the top, or do you guys think they would be reasonable and challenging adversaries?
They work to help to set the situation. I think in the voting, people are going to be looking more at the collection of heroes as a unit regardless of the villains they may be up against.

So Lowenhurts + I have been discussing a Villains draft to run simultaneously with the heroes draft. It would follow similar ruls and the playoffs would pit groups of heroes agains groups of villains, instead of heroes vs. heros. I like the idea a lot...any takers for next TDOS?

Löwen-HURTS ... and I thought we were cool ;)

We've got about eight months (nine by some miracle) until our men in Purple head into the next TDOS so there's plenty of time to work out the specifics.

But for a reader's digest rundown, you've decided the world has gone on long enough not bending to your whim and lucky you, your choice of super villains are availble to aid you in your the conquest of Earth. But standing in your way are a collection of baddies with equal aspirations of world domination ... and of course there's always those pesky choir-boy heroes to contend with.

Any earthbound villains from comics, movies and popular culture are eligible (Sadly, the earthbound part means no Darth Vader; I asked.)

It also means *real life villains* would technically be available, but let's keep this fun and free of politics, as I can already imagine the chaos of having someone's opinion of a "real life villain" selected might cause.

And stemming from the Venom question, a hero/villain can only work for the forces of good or evil, not both. So it will either have to be decided ahead of time if there is any question as to their allegiance either before the draft or in a PM to either Commish during the draft. If a hero/villain is selected and a protest is placed as to their status as a hero or villain, the pick may be disallowed.

People can participate in either or BOTH drafts if they choose. Rules will follow the guidelines setup in the Heroes draft.

And once the playoffs start the Ultimate Super Hero Groups will take on the Ultimate Villain Groups in the final battle for supremacy.

Once we get all things squared away, we'll hammer out a proper set of guidelines for both, (I plan to commish the Villains and Jes-Purr ;) will do the Heroes) Just gauging interest for now.

So calling all my fellow evil overlords. Who's ready to bring the pain to the planet and sculpt it into your own dark image?
