piksi

Hall of Famer
Preseason winding down with only one minor casualty so far. It could be worse. We could be the Suns or the Blazers;)

We need to stop Finley again tonight.

Also Go Bobcats !!!

Okay, now you're scaring me.

;)

I'm guessing you're saving your 'Piksimisms" for the regular season, right?

Suns vs. Kings Thread

How much of a negative impact do you think losing Amare will have on tonight's game?

They played well vs. the Sonics, but the Sonics were doing a lot of experimenting and didn't have two of their bigs.

While this is only presaeson, Seattle should not be compared to Sacramento.

And why is that? we brought back most of our core. Losing AD will hurt but bringing back an improved Wilkins and the improvements of Flip Murray will replace his numbers. Kings added some nice pieces but also lost some as well. Seems to me we are both in the same boat.

Yeah, but Seattle were doing a lot of testing from what I saw... and were without 2 or 3 bigs. Pre-season anyways.

Kings lost an (sadly) injury prone, one-year contract, older B-Jax. Mobley was a good short-term replacement, but couldn't quite fit in, and losing him doesn't hurt at all. Ostertag had a few flashes of solid the whole season, basically nothing. Songaila wouldn't of been able to get much PT with SAR/KT/Corliss/Skinner, and Evans is probably the most meaningful loss due to what he did for us, which was great. But he'll do what he did for the Kings for Pistons, with maybe a bit more PT. He just wanted a bit too much money in the end. The positive to losing Mo is that K-Mart and Garcia can evolve more.

I don't think we're in the same boat at all. In fact, I think you might be mistaking being IN the boat for swimming beside the boat...

1) The Kings underacheived last year in the PO
2) Seattle lost AD, which should really hurt
3) McMillian was huge with regard to their success.

Two teams going in two different directions, so unless it is a really big boat, they are not in the same boat.

Are the Sonics a PO team? I dont think so.

I don't think Seattle will have a run like last year, but I don't think they're quite outta the playoff picture.

Losing Nate/AD were big blows though, yeah.

Anyways, I think the Kings win tonight based on more size.

Kings underacheived? no..they were just better by a better team and as the 4-1 series said. It wasn't really that close

already mentioned losing AD hurts but we have other guys who will improve to replace him

agree on Nate

and yes the sonics should still be a playoff team, still have two all-stars, a very promising young PG and a great bench.

we may not be as good as last year but we are still at the same level of talent as the kings and have just as good a chance at having a better record.

anyway back to the topic

this is about suns and kings

sorry VF

Perhaps we could start a different thread to debate this in more detail so as not to totally derail this one?

Back to topic at hand:

The game tonight should be interesting. The Kings facing the Suns with Amare would have had an entirely different game plan going in; now, without the talents of Amare in the 4, I suspect they'll have much more freedom than they would have had otherwise. I'm actually thinking Peja might have a very good game.

So do they move Marion to the 4 like they did last year, or do they stick someone else in for Amare? That probably has a large effect on the style of play they employ. With Marion at the four it opens things up a little more offensively but is an obvious mismatch on the other end.

Yeah, Marion should be at 4. Well, SI had him at the 4 and James Jones in at SF, which doesnt sound to bad to me.

They still will deffinetly not be as good as last year...we were already saying this before Amare went down, becasue of the loss of Johnson and Richardson. Sure, they may have been able to do almost as well when Amare was in, but without Amare they are just another quality team in a quality conference.

On paper, the Kings deff have an edge, seeing as that we have 5 players many acknowledge as All-Star Caliber and they have 3 tops, along with two mostly unproven younger players. Plus, we have a stronger bench, most deffinetly.

Marion will be at the four again. They've been using a Nash/Bell/Jones/Marion/KT line-up all pre-season, which also ties into their "tons of scoring still" pledge.

I was surprised they aren't going with a Nash/Bell/Marion/KT/Burke (who isn't a bad big, seriously) for their regular line-up, to still have some size in there for the long Amare loss. But a small, active line-up can work..

Burke really can't play -- I remember him from his first stint in the NBA. Unathletic, can't rebound, block shots, or much of anything else. He had one strong month back there as I recall, and then quickly faded right out of the league. Was very surprised to see him back. Truly bargain basement shopping for the Suns.

Suns are much better off trying to semi-duplicate their balance of last year until Amare gets back. But its a sore sore hit. Even if you assume for a moment that Raja and James could match the numbers of JJ and Q, going from Amare to Kurt is about a 10-15pt hit a game.

Ah, I read different of Burke, and he supposedly improved (obviously doesn't say here):

So, that could be a "that was then" thing... who knows, heh. I've just said him a couple times when talking about the Suns line-ups because he's got size, and based on stuff I've read. I honestly don't care or think too much about him though. ;)

NICE. Third Kings pre-season game in a row on NBA LP (they don't air all pre-season games, just two or three a night). Rockets/Wizards on as well...
