Summer 2007 FA's

I know everyone is focused on the upcoming draft but, depending on what Petrie does, I'm thinking we should also be thinking about fallback plans that will include one or more of the FA's out there. Some of the ones that are unrestricted that I think may interest us are;
Chris Mihm
Jason Kapono
James Posey
Joe Smith
Mo Peterson

What do you guys think?

Plus, depending on who drafts who we may see some duplication of talent and some guys become expendable that might fill some of our needs since we're obviously not going to get better with one draft pick.

By all rights we should have little interest in that type of player -- the MLE veteran. We are already choking on those sorts of guys. Maybe Mihm I guess, just because he's a center. Kapono is a roleplayer...but wihtout stars or a coherent system such a guy really isn't very useful, especially on a team already overloaded with OG/SFs.

We are going to need to score somehwere in free agency along wiht the pick (or picks), but I think like everything else it has to be someone young who might grow into a bargain.

I PASS forget these guys. unless we are shooting for most avg team in the league.

WE ONLY need youth, talent or young guys that could be great but need a couple of years. obviously we need size but again size that is young. its not like were look'n for vets to add depth to our championship run next year.

yeah right

I think the Kings free agent list should be:

Mo Williams
Darko Milicic
Gerald Wallace
Amir Johnson
Andray Blatche
Chris Mihm

in that order. Other than those guys I'm not really interested.

Exactly right. Mo is a proved PG, Wallace is a SF monster, Mihm a good back up C and the rest are big guys with a lot of potential.

Unlike Reef he's big, rebounds and provides energy. I don't see him as more than a good backup though. Just an energy guy.

Agreed, I'd rather just draft a rich man's Varejao in Noah than overpay big bucks for AV. I think he's a 6th man of the year guy, but nothing more.

Sorry Kids but this batch of FA's is mighty thin... even if you do belive that the Kings can buck the overwhealming trend of NOT being able to land top FA's that are not already Kings, you have to look to NEXT off seaon as the prefered hunting gorund. Better to take a couple ending contracts in exchange for a sign and trade than go out and drop big money this year when the best you can do is MAYBE Mo William, Gerald Wallace or Chris Mihm. Given the thin market, any paper these guys sign this year will be inflated so much that Kenny Thoumas will seem like a bargian.

There's Rashard Lewis. ESPN said someting to the effect of $15 mil/yr for 5 years, which I think is way too much.

Do you think Petrie has an eye out for Darko?
I personally think he would because Darko is sort of a Petrie player. Has good skills for a tall, can shoot, has some post game, great shot blocker, good passer and he also happens to be an athletic 7'0" PF/C.

The difficulty here is that he is a restricted FA and Magic want to keep him. He is also likely to get a deal in the $7-9 million per season range and I am not sure if we would be interested at that price.

The only way we're going to get him is through trade and I don't know if the magic like Bibby that much. It's too bad Bibby just won't opt out.

I'd say a Bibby S&T Darko deal is a strong possibility if Orlando can't get Vince Carter.

Orlando first whats to lock up Darko, if they can't, thats when i expect a sign and trade. And Vince Carter is on the list of f/a's the Magic might want, which also include Lewis, Wallace and billups.

For a sign and trade to occur with Orlando, the magic must refuse to match the Darko contract, Darko has to agree to go Sac and all 4 of those free agents must turn down offer an offer by the magic. With all that being said i doubt that Darko leaves and i also think that the magic should be able to get one of thoes free agents, i am guessing Lewis.

If Bibby somehow gets to Orlando, that was most likely plan Z for the magic.
I think that if bibby goes, he goes to Houston or Cleveland.

what do u guys think about a S&T Lewis for Ron?

We really don't need/want Rashard at this point. He's not a superstar, but he's going to command superstar money. And he's at the wrong place in his career for us. When you're rebulding I don't think you want to hop in bed with a one dimensional scorer who's going to be making $18 million when he's 31 in a couple of years. If he was a guy who made others better, maybe. But this team has already been choking on guys who are pretty much just scorers. We don't need the megacontract cherry on top so we can try to recerate that Allen/Lewis 30 win magic with Kevin/Lewis.

I can't believe people in the NBA are talking about paying Rashard Lewis $15 million. That's just insane for such a one-dimensional player. Whatever team signs him is going to absolutely kill their cap.

While Lewis would be nice to have, I agree, he's gonna look VERY bad in that contract very soon for whatever team has him.

A deal for lewis should start at 11 or 10 million his first year and 15 million his last year, anything else is unacceptable.

Unfortunately I'm sure the Peja mega-contract is being used as a baseline by Rashard's agent.
