Stars of the future:

I decided to do a thread about future NBA stars. I suscribe to several websites that are informative about upcoming highschool players. I thought I would start with Michael Gilchrist. He's a 6'6" SF/SG. In highschool he's played mostly at the SF position, but I believe his ballhandling and passing ability could lend itself to the SG position. He's a very athletic young man and plays with a lot of confidence. He should be one of the top choices in the 2012 draft class..

My second entry is Austin Rivers. He's a 6'4" combo guard and the son of Doc Rivers. This kid is going to be an outstanding player if he continues to develop. He's very gifted for his age. He's a good passer, ballhandler, and can score from the outside as well as getting to the basket. He's another that should be at the top of the 2012 draft class. He matched up well against John Wall in their only meeting. Not only scoring on Wall but picking his pocket as well....

My third entry is probably someone that most of you haven't heard of. He's a 6'2" point guard from Canada named Myck Kabongo. He's more of a pure point guard than a scorer, but is quite capable of putting the ball in the basket. He has good quickness but doesn't have the hops of a John Wall. He'll probably remind you more of slightly taller version of Johnny Flynn with more pt skills. He's already committed to Texas as his college of choice, so you'll know where to find him a year from now. Here's a little film on him..

Well the jury is still out on Flynn. But I think Kabongo will be a better player than Flynn. I think he's more of an instinctive point guard. Rivers has star potential.. Their both still very young, so we'll see...

My fourth entry is a player that could very well be the first pick in the 2012 draft. He's a 6'9" SF with a 7'4" wingspan. I'm talking about Quincy Miller. He's a rare combination of athleticism and skills for someone so young. He's a terrific ballhandler and passer, which sometimes gets him into trouble by trying to do too much. Its not often you see a 6'9" player with the crossover of a guard. On the other side of the ball he's a very good defender and shotblocker. He plays with great confidence, which also gets him into trouble at times. He's a good shooter but his release is a little low, and needs some work.

All in all he's probably the best highschool senior in the country. That could change in a year, but I wouldn't bet on it. Here's a glimpse.

My fifth entry is another player I'm sure many of you haven't heard of. This kid is more of a project in the skills area, but there's no denying his athletic abiltiy. He's another highschool senior named Duece Bello. At the moment he's a 6'3" SG with very long arms and the ability to jump out of the building.. He handles the ball very well and is a terrific finisher at the basket. However all the rest of his game needs serious improvement. He's another one of those gifted athlete's that able to just dominate at the highschool level on pure athleticism. But it will only get you so far. He's still very young and seems to be leaning toward Louisville as his college of choice, which is still a year away. Anyway, here's a little video on him...

My sixth entry is a 6'7" SF named Lebryan Nash. He's a very strong and athletic player that can score with either hand around the basket. Facially he'll remind you of Ron Artest somewhat. His outside shot needs a little work as does his ballhandling. But considering his young age, both those skills are pretty good right now. He rebounds well at the highschool level and he's a very good defender. If he grows another inch or two its possible he could project to PF, but his skill level is perfect for SF. Like Artest, he likes to post up when he gets the chance. Here's a little video of him.
