Spurs @ Kings Game Thread

i still agree the officiating kinda sucked. but at the same time, VF is right. we were outplayed at the end. made too many mistakes. thats why we lost. but still, i enjoyed the game. and it was a lot closer than i ever thought it would be. so go kings.

I'm sorry, we lead the league in FTs, and quite possibly flops. We have absolutely NO reason to ever be raising the "biased refs" argument around here this season.

As an aside, what the hell is up with a timeout down by 7 with 2 secs to go.
And its just one of those games that we showed up for on defense and rebouding, and the refs just want to blow the whistle because they dont expect us to stop anyone and vice versa with the Spurs, i mean they are too good of a defensive team for our players to get calls on when they get smacked down the lane...

When are people going to quit trying to blame the officials for the Kings' mistakes?

WE DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF THE BALL AT THE END!!!! Period. Too many careless turnovers and a few too many lapses into "me ball" instead of teamwork.

The referees made mistakes on both ends of the court, but they did not cost us this game.

Atleast im excited to watch the Kings again, looking forward to smacking the next team into oblivion

Why is that idiot calling a timeout ???

So he can try to remind people that he is the coach.

I think it was Kerr that had a "brilliant" observation near the end of the game. He said that Muss told them during the a time out to not turn the ball over. We turned it over right away. Kerr said, "They didn't listen to him." Of course he wasa talking about that possession and was trying to be funny, but I laughed because he has no idea how true that statement was!

Anyway, I do not have much to complain about. We were beaten by a better, more experienced team. They put up a good fight but fell short.

Grant Napear said to not be surprised to see Artest playing in the next game. Did he get that whole mess sorted out, then?

Sincerely doubt that would be possible on such short notice. But our front office may have seen enough to be convinced they can let him back without it being a further embarrassment/distraction to the team -- nothign sensationalistic going to pop up. Either that or the Maloofs were back in town for some more national TV time and just sent Geoff to his room so they could free their boy back up.

When will fans grow the balls to stop excusing the officials for their mistakes?

The question is not "did we turn the ball over?" or "did we not play well?", the question is should the officials be a question at all? No they should not. If they are a question, then it's a problem. And guess what? No calls turn into turnovers just as well. Ask Duncan when he missed that layup.

Do you see me blaming the refs much on this forum? I take issue with it when it is an issue. We turned the ball over, but we outrebounded them. That evens out. You can't do everything perfect. The final law is that officials should be unnoticable parts of the game. Unfortunately the NBA is ruled more by unwritten rules than written rules.

Seriously, how can anyone excuse the refs of the NBA when they just decided to start calling a rule(traveling) that has been in the books for decades?

I have a big problem with people making excuses for refs, because that mentality has let the issue get to the point where it is now, where our NBA stars don't know how to play against the world because they're so use to being bailed out by NBA refs.

OUCH!

Sad, but very possibly true.

I wonder if Petrie is going to be around next year. Aldridge seems to think Portland is a big possibility for him.

Well, considering my gender I hope the answer to that question is never.

The officials were no better or worse than usual.

I don't see you doing much of anything on this forum, now that you ask. I don't know why your panties are in a bunch. I don't think I was even addressing you in particular. It's way too common an excuse for Kings fans to blame the officiating and it sounds juvenile and petulant.

Um, what? The traveling call has long been a bugaboo for the Kings and players like Webber, who have had a tendency most of their careers to drag their pivot foot. And when did this become about traveling?

I have a big problem with people making excuses for refs, because that mentality has let the issue get to the point where it is now, where our NBA stars don't know how to play against the world because they're so use to being bailed out by NBA refs.

Excuse me? I have a problem with people who overgeneralize to try and prove their points. I haven't made any excuses for the officials. What I've said and still maintain is that SOME KINGS FANS tend to blame the officials first when the underlying cause is more likely closer to home. WE DIDN'T TAKE CARE OF THE BASKETBALL AT THE END OF THE GAME. What part of that is so hard to understand?

If the shoe fits, make sure it's not on your pivot foot.

It's only normal that would come up. My gut instinct and best guess is that Petrie isn't going anywhere.

My thought was that the Spurs scored a lot easier when Duncan and Ginobili were sitting. Their bench isn't the greatest, but Popovich was happy to let them play all the minutes they could, until we got ahead. Then their best guys came back off the bench (along with Bowen) in the last 4 minutes, and that was that.

Not sure where to post this. Kings' fans appear on People.com
