On March 8th 2000 Kings beat Hornets @ ARCO 105-92 to improve to 35-25 for the season. It was a game where Kings started slow and Hornets lead as high as 18 points but Kings turned it on in the 2nd half lead by the former Hornet - Vlade who dominated the game in that stretch. Vlade lead Kings with 27/11/4/2st, Webber added 22/5/4/2/2, Anderson had 11/6/1. Bench mob was excelent lead by JB's 11/3/1/1 and Funderburke's 10/3/1/1.
Vlade Divac scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Sacramento Kings rallied from an 18-point deficit for their fourth win in five games, 105-92 over the Charlotte Hornets. The Kings used a 28-11 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to open an 89-81 lead with 7:13 left. Chris Webber scored 10 of his 22 points in that spurt with Divac adding six as the Kings swept a two-game season series from the Hornets for the first time.
"It was a tale of two halves," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "It just seemed like we didn't have any energy and that's all we talked about during halftime. It was the type of win we needed against a pretty good team."
"Well, I fell great. I don't care if I'm tired or not because we won the game," Divac said. "Coach told us at halftime that we needed to step up on defense because we gave up a lot of easy shots."
"I think the last few games, Vlade has been upping his game but he's coming to play and doing his job so that's how he'll get started," Webber said. "In the second half guys came together and we got some hands on the ball and made more shots."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings won again increasing the streak to 4 games before playing Spurs who have won 10 straight. With a 28-32 record Kings are currently 9th in the West with only one game behind the 8th, 2 games behind 7th and 4.5 games behind the 6th spot held by Lakers which is certainly still in striking distance but considering the current distraction maybe a tall order. Kings have won 8/9 at home and the number of almost wins in the last couple weeks has dropped dramatically. We finally look like a team out there and let's hope that it isn't too late for that surge because it is already way too late for a nice draft pick.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since there is a " big elephant" in the room it is hard to ignore it and I don't intend to anyways. I was also one of those who did not want Ron in this uniform but I did accept it and I supported Kings and him as a part of it knowing - not expecting mind You - knowing that sooner or later something would happen - and it did. Now that it happened - I am not sure how to feel about it because it has many aspects and there is lot of gray area in there.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From what we know so far - Ron yet again screwed up royally. While, he is innocent until proven guilty - we all pretty much know that the permanent damage has been done. Obviously, the woman in this case isn't "an angel" which is completely irrelevant since she doesn't play for the Kings and she is the one that made the call this time (looks like they are alternating). Worst of all - little kids had to go trough all this happening in front of them. Hard to have any emphaty to either one of them except the kids. Domestic violence is a very serious issue and it is never a clear cut and kids always suffer the most.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will pick 3 points of view since the 4th one has been covered in the "never-ending" thread because these days Kings fans seam to be more interested in anything else but actually watching Kings play.
First of all - I can't even believe myself that right now - I will attempt to look at it from "moRon's" perspective but anyways. Being innocent until proven guilty is something every one of us would like to have for him/herself in given situation. Hard to do considering previous record in this case but even NBA will do it. Unfortunately, domestic violence is very common and if everyone who did it lost his job - You get the picture. Obviously, moRon has a higher profile due to the public exposure but still he should technically deserve a benefit of the doubt (none of us can really give him any - anymore). Money and fame can change what You are but never who You are or - Vulpes pilum mutat non mores!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next point of view is most important and concerns the Kings. Our management did a right thing with "suspending" him but it is a short term decision. If players association complained - they would win the case. I don't really care about that. As far as I know Ron's only transgressions were towards Muss and they were verbal or passive. While I disagreed with it - he has a point saying that Muss is clueless. We don't know what is going on in behind the door anyways. For Kings to get into post season - they need Artest the player - and that is the bottom line. Until March 22nd or so - they can't technically really keep him out of it - what happens after that - who knows. Hard to say how his teammates feel or how the majority of the fans would see it especially those who want Kings to get into POs. It will be a hard decision to make but our management had to be prepared for it the moment that they traded for him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's finish with how I feel. In case that the team is okay with it - I would let him finish this season pending on the courts and Stern's decision. Not because I think that he should but because that might be in the best interest of the team and I would hate to see the rest of the team being "punished" because of one idiot. People who traded for him are the most responsible for all this disaster anyways. First day on which teams are allowed to trade - I want him gone and I don't care for the return. There are teams that will take him since they have convicted criminals, alleged rapist etc on their rosters. Anywhere but here. One thing that I will not accept is seeing that idiot in Kings uniform starting next season because starting fall 2007 I will not watch another Kings game featuring Ron Artest. That is the least I can do.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to our normal issues talking about randomness of Muss rotations based on the air humidity in the Sahara. Any rotation that gets You in the position where at the same time You have Bibby, Martin, Miller (with Ron not playing) on the bench at the same time sucks and is idiotic - borderline retarded. When You realize - who is left on the floor - You start understanding how 16-0 runs happen. Price, Garcia, Salmons, KT and SAR lineup doesn't even work when You are up 20 pts. And it isn't just enough to call a time out unless You actually do it to put the starters back in because You can't bake a cake out of garbage regardless of how much You talk to it or how much different ways You present it on the power point.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coach's corner sponsored by NASA, LensCrafters and Steve Wonder. We already covered the rotation so we can go back to the obvious crap that we have to put up with. When You have a guy who scored 20 ts in a half - it would be a good idea to run a play for him from time to time in the 2nd half also. when You call a time out to stop an 8-0 run and then You allow another 8-0 run - You might want to think about it. Also stop running a play for KT on the first possession of each game. It doesn't work. Looks like Muss has developed a kool aid that kick in in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Or maybe the players are developing some sort of tolerance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pacers were clinically dead and we almost fully reanimated them by being stupid and not having a coach. We played well for 2 and a half quarters against a team that has now lost 6 straight, a team that has quit on their coach. Instead of shutting down their life support we almost gave them life. Anyways Pacers caught fire but Kings didn't do what they usually did this season - fold. We somehow survived tis one despite all sorts of distractions.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
AWARD TIME
TDM goes to Dunleavy who just made everything. We didn't do much to stop him. luckily, he started late enough to allow us to survive
LW-VC award goes to the entire Pacers bench who got outscored by Corliss Williamson
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spurs are next and despite Parker's injury problems they have won 10 straight games mostly because Flopibily had been insane. We will hold our breath every time when Bowen gets near Martin. Duncan has been playing really well also. We can always blame Finley. The game would be winnable if we had Ron. Without him Bowen will bother Martin and no one can stop Flopibily, or Duncan.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike - nice 2nd half
Kevin - nice first half
Brad - we need more
Ron - thanks for nothing
SAR - solid off the bench
-----------------------------------------------------------------
rest - mateen
----------------------------------------------------------------
Muss - kool aid flavor of the day is sweat
----------------------------------------------------------------
Spurs while having the 3rd best record in the NBA are as usual my first favorite to win the title because they know how. Duncan will get his and so will Flopibili. Bowen on Martin in Ron's absence is scary. Udrich will win the TDM, LW-VC hopefully goes to Horry and even if it doesn't - I will give him one because I can. JH-KT award might just go to KT. - Kings almost win this one.
