Ouch !

This game is from May 16th 2004 but I thought it fits the cause. At that point in time, Kings were down 3-2 to Timberwolves before the game 6 at ARCO. Kings responded facing elimination and won 104 - 87. The game is mostly remembered for AP's elbow that ended in KG's face. Pedja lead Kings with 22/8/1/2/1, Bibby had 16/5/10/3/1, DC had 16/3/2/2, Webber had 14/7/3//1. Brad Miller came off the bench and actually did something useful by contributing with 17/7/5/2.

Peja Stojakovic scored 22 points to lead a balanced attack as the Kings kept their season alive with a 104-87 triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves in yet another intense battle in the Western Conference semifinals.

"Now it's a one-game series," Adelman said. "And you never know what's going to happen in a one-game series. I keep telling them to extend this. We extended it today and now we want to extend it to the next round."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The crazy first round is getting to an end. Foir some teams it is already over. Some teams have their backs on the wall.
EAST:
Pistons vs Bucks - Bucks avoided the sweep but that was all they were capable to do. They just dodn't have enough fire power to compeate with Pistons.
Wizards vs. Cavs - currently playing in game 5. This will go 7 games and whoever wins will have a short second round.
Bulls vs. Heat - Bulls colapsed in game 5 and it will be very hard to come back from that but then again who knows what Wade will be able to do in the next days. I expect game 7 here.
Pacers vs. Nets. Pacers might be done here. not only do they have the worst looking offense that I have seen in a long time but also they have injury problems. VC is on fire too.
WEST:
Mavs vs Grizzlies - it was never a real series and Mavs look scary good.
Clippers - Nuggets - Clippers won easily and I hope they get to the WCF at least. I like watching them. Feels just like watching something we own.
Lakers vs. Suns - It is hard to believe that Lakers would let this get away from them. They just need a solid game and 3 blind man of their choice. I still hope - Suns in 7. Haven't seen Kobe cry in a while
Kings vs. Spurs. Let's just hope for a game 7 and not worry about anything else at the moment.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The champs were in trouble and they responded. They took care of business at home and put us in a desperate position to fight for our playoff lives in game 6 on Friday. They adjusted well, especially making sure that Manu Flopibili gets involved more. Certainly we helped them by having the majority of our team not showing up for most part of the game. They killed us on the boards and they shot 57 % from the field. You have got to give them credit for that.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am sure that Spurs fans care about the Spurs the same way the we care about the Kings. They are just too shy to show it. The atmosphere at AT&T center was pathetic at best. I have seen better crowd at a PTA meeting. They don't really have a home court. They win because they are good.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Greg Popovic realized that Spurs can't guard Bonzi but he also realized that Bonzi alone can't beat Spurs. It is hard to tell wheather his defensive scheme is making the rest of the kings less effective or is it just us sucking big time but either way he got the job done in game 5. He managed to get Flopibili to play well but making sure that he get what he likes. Pop's methods of comunicating with his player might not be - what is the word for it - civilized but they seem to be very effective. Sometimes that is the only way for professional athletes to understand the importance of the moment
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Manu Flopibili crawled out of Ron's pocket and hurt us big time. At least Ron didn't get suspended. In game 6 Manu really doesn't need to have a big game. I hope that Ron will realize that his pocket is empty because kings will not survive another great game by Manu considering we just can't stop Parker and Duncan.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bruce Bowen of all people decide that he has offense. Why ? He was doing great in the first 4 games by leaving us the hell alone. It is a "check - mate" situation. He does it again - we shake their hands and better luck next year. This has an inpact of magnitude compared to what would happen if Jason Hart get a tripple double (not involving turnovers). Give me a break.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings compeated wll last night considering the fact that most of the players didn't really bother showing up. Those who did (actually more or less just one guy) couldn't do it alone. People say that You only play as well as Your opponent let You. i am not sure of how much this is true in this case percentage wise but we need to give credit to Spurs first and the criticize the hell out of some of our players for "modelling" on the floor. People also say that effort is contagious but most of our player are doing a great job of staying away from that illness.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
When the season started we had a "core" that could only be a core in a comic book or a story written by Hans Christian Anderson. It was so bad that we didn't even go trougha denial phase. One guy is gone and the team improved but addition and by elimination. 2 are left and the question is - for how long. All 3 of them are nothing but solid role player that need someone else to make them look good. In case of Brad and mike - they need each other to look good and they are both nonexistent in this series (minor exceptions). As it always happenes - they make the most money too. The fact that Kings are still in the series speaks even more about Ron, Bonzi, Kevin and the rest of the guys. Most pathetic thing is the fact that we don't really have any replacements for them. 2 positions that we have no alternatives suck the most in this series and we are still in it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rick Adelman was given lots of credit for the way that he coached in games 2,3,4. He deserves some criticism for game 5, mostly for a substitution at the end of the game that killed our momentum and broke our back. It is a same mistake that RA always makes. he trust his players too much. He believes in their abilities sometimes more than the players believe themselves. Now, we all know that Brad Miller didn't really have any business near the floor late in the game but RA figured that this teams best chance were with the best players we have. It has happened so many times with Kings in the last 8 years and it has cost us many times but it also worked more than that. Appearently, that is his coaching philosophy and he wins a lot with it. Can we really blame him for having trust in the players that he coaches ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
How do You find words to express Bonzi's performances in this series. There is a moment in the game last night where I was thinking "fu.. Jordan." He has given us everything and more. he is the best player in this series by far and yet his team is down 3-2. Before the series - if someone told me that Bonzi will play this good - I would say - we win the series. But then again if someone told me that we will play without Mike and Brad - I wouldn't have believed it either.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"There is no tomorrow" for the Kings at the moment. We have to earn the right to play another game by winning. Does it make us "dangerous" or does it mean that we are done ? Hard to say. I am not psychologist so You tell me. What is going on on the player's heads ? Don't tell me that they are just thinking about the game 6 because I wouldn't believe it for a second. They don't believe it either. They know how hard game 7 would be. Will they go out and leave it on the floor and if they do - why the hell didn't they do it in game 5 ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
ARCO earned another chance to showcase its impact. It will be great tomorrow. Will that help the players - remains to be seen. There is just no doubt about which fans are the best in the NBA. We just swept them all. there is even no contest. ARCO has certainly earned the right to see another series but in the best case scenario all it can cause it help to get to game 7. What else can it really do ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In King's world Pandora made 2 mistakes. First one was obviously being to curious and opening the box and the second one - she closed it too fast keeping the hope in there. Looking at the last 8 years the hope never became anything but just that - hope. We lost all games that really mattered and even when we didn't lose it -it was taken away by the blind men. How many times did we get our hopes up and were disappointed badly ? The question is - why should it be different this time ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
TDM award went to Bruce Bowen who really hurt us with 16 pts (7-9), We really didn't need that to happen.
LW-VC award went to Mike Bibby who shot 3-12 failed to score in double digits and did not get to the line once. Didn't to much of anything else either except watching Parket pass him over and over and over again. Brad made solid case for the 3rd award in the series but his numbers were "awsome" compared to the first 2 games so he is of the hook for this game. However he is still the worst player in this series and it is not even close
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spurs will come out tomorrow with the mindset to close this series that already lasted too long considering that Mavs are waiting and resting. They don't want game 7 either. I don't think that they are afraid of losing it but they just want to be done. We need to match that intensity and we need someone else but Bonzi to play for 48 minutes. it would be great if either Mike or brad would do something but there is just no reason to really count on that. Maybe Kevin can have a monster game again
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike - any time now man
Ron - put Manu bach where it belongs and kepp it together
Bonzi - would it be too much to ask him to do it again
SAR - we need more man
Brad - what can You say ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin - let's go kid
KT - is he on the roster ?
Cisco - pretty much nothing
rest - mateen
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
RA - keep it together man
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spurs are good and we knew that. It would be great to force game 7but it will be hard to do. if Manu has another great game - we are done because Duncan and Parker will get theirs and there is nothing we can do about it. TDM award is for grabs and I will make no prediction again. LW-VC will hopefully go to a Spurs player eventhough Brad Miller is a clear favorite to wrap the series up.

it sure feels like that, doesn't it?:o

For us Kings fans, it's hard to imagine that a game 7 (or game 5 in a 5 game series for that matter) could be anything but a heartbreaking disaster. I know that in my mind, I feel confident that we can take game 6 at home, but when I try to imagine us winning a game 7 in San Antonio it seems almost impossible.

I guess the one bright side is that many of the players on this team don't have the built in phobia of game 7's that we have developed over the years. I hope we can take game 6 at home, and go to San Antonio & play our hearts out. And, maybe, just maybe, we will be surprised.

Though the last game was close, the Kings gotta step it up in every category in order to win this game. IMHO, the execution and gameplan was not up to the mark -- heart, hustle and a one-man wrecking crew can carry you only so far. The playoffs are not about keeping it close, it is about outsmarting the other team to get the W, lucky bounce or not.

The offense outside of Bonzi has been sputtering -- rest of the team shooting below 40%. We desperately need Mike and others to execute the offense better. Maybe involve a legit scorer like SAR more?

Can the Kings play defense consistently? Allowing the Spurs to shoot 57% is beyond ridiculous -- I bet they shoot a lesser percentage in practice. Stop the layup drill.

Rebounding has been even over the series with the better rebounding team on the day ending up the winner (Game 2 being the lone exception). Brad Miller, where are you?

Overall, I think the Kings will win Game 6 with Arco crowd behind them. Game 7 in SA is where the Kings will have the chance to rewrite history or merely follow it.

Game 7 of the 2002 WCF is probably the tops on eveyone's list, but for me, the most depressing was Game 7 against the T'pups, with Webbers potential game-tieing 3 rattling in and out at the buzzer.

I refuse to give in to talking about "most depressing" games. We have the whole TDOS for that.

I am thankful for every single moment of Kings playoff basketball I have had the opportunity to experience. And this year I am more thankful than ever.

These past five games have reminded me exactly why I love this team.

GO KINGS!!!

I hope everybody shows up! And that I mean EVERYBODY, no exceptions. I hope Adelman motivates his team by saying: Don't bother showing without your heart, passion and desire for game.

I thought I saw a word "flop" in there. But I guess I didn't.

Nope, not gonna think about those games right now. They are distant history. Other teams, other players (beloved in their time).

I would LOVE for the Kings to win this series. However, I find myself smiling a lot these days when I think about this team. Depressing is what I saw from this team in December. Never could I have imagined this is where we would be. I'm lovin' it! And I'm proud of these guys.

GO KINGS!!

Artest needs to put the clamp down on Manu next game, like he has before. We cannot let that guy get going again. He also needs to be smarter on offense and punish the Spurs inside. Bibby needs to shoot the hell out of the ball and play some D, Bonzi's gotta do his thing. We just need much, much more from our Bigs. Brad is not getting it done and already seems to be in hunting mode, unfortunately he is the one being hunted, so far. KT is already in fishing mode... and he wants to be a permanent starter? SAR has done as admirable a job as one can do on Timmy, but he needs to do better. We also need some of his offense from both KT and SAR next game. Rebounding is what has got us this far, we need to control the boards. Everyone and I mean everone has to contribute. No time to take a backseat. Who'll step up to the challenge? Who will wilt under the pressure. We'll see.... It's game 6 of the NBA playoffs -- Kings vs Spurs.

this game is going to be won with our defense. we cannot afford to trade baskets with this team because their not dallas or the suns. they will play defense. we cannot afford to give up 16 points to bruce bowen. we cannot afford to give up 20points to each of their big 3. 2 may get theirs, but at least lets contain 1 of them. no hesitation. we have to put this team away right at the opening tip.

The Kings Will Win Game 6... But Can They Win Game 7?

So.. here’s the deal. There is no doubt in my mind the kings will win game 6. The Spurs have not yet proven they are capable of slowing down the kings at arco. I know this is a different kings team, but the kings have always proven under adelman to be a very, very tough team when their backs are against the wall. The Kings will go on to win game 6 at arco behind a rockin’ arco crowd.

So lets say the kings do win game 6. Could they pull off one of the biggest upsets and deliever the knock out blow on the defending champs home court? The previous kings teams always struggled in game 7’s. But this new team has tremendous heart and I just have a gut feeling Artest and Bonzi will not let us down. The only thing is the rest of the kings have to show up and provide solid contributions!

the way those games usually end - it can't really be long enough

Usually???? Usually implies that we won one at some point....

But this year has been anything but usual- Kings in 7

Bibby and Miller are going to kill tonight. I can feel it. Spurs are going to try and stop Bonzi's game therefor leaving bibby and brad open alot more, and Brad knows if he doesn't show up tonight, theres a really good chance hes not showing up next year. I know these guys can do it!
