Source: Blazers willing to move young talent

Apparently the Blazers are looking to move some of their "deep young talent." Maybe we should make a run at Bayless or one of their young PG's. We have some "veteran talent" they could use, and they have some young talent i wouldnt mind seeing in a kings uni. Bayless or Batum or one of thier young bigs come to mind. Obviously they wouldnt trade Roy....i would assume...

Thoughts??

Thoughts? Do pretty much whatever it takes to get Bayless, before they realize just how lucky they got in the last draft. I think he's gonna be a star someday. With Bayless, Greene, Thompson, Hawes, and Martin we would be an extremely exciting team to watch for years to come. (Would have to add defensive roleplayers of course)

I'd only be interested in Batum. We have no use for Bayless. He's an undersized shooter/scorer SG, and besides, they'd value him way too much.

I’d be a little surprised if they were interested in trading away Bayless. But if they are I would want to jump on that as soon as possible. I think they could use John. I wouldn’t mind that trade :p

The articles doesn't mention that one of the main reasons the Blazers are interested in moving some of their young guys is that they can potentially have lot of cap space next summer, if they don't sign some of their guys, and no team picks Darius Miles for 10 or more games.

If we had any expiring contracts this year, they might have been interested. Otherwise, why shall they take on one of our vets, with contracts going into next year, and oblige us by giving away some young talent?

The only exception I can think of is Miki, since they can waive him off next year for a relatively cheap 2M. Also, if Oden misses significant time this year too, they might want to add another big body (okay, tall guy).

I would think this trading off young talent bit with the Blazers would basiclaly not include:

C-Oden
PF/C- Aldridge
C- Pryzbilla
SF/PF - Outlaw
SF/OG Webster
OG - Fernandez
OG/PG - Roy

And so basically they are looking for a starting PG and/or a backup big man better than Frye.

Which would leave the possibles:

PF/Charmin - Frye (soft)
PF/twerp - Diogu (already have him, he's dating Candace)
PG - Rodriguez (maybe)
PG/SG - Bayless (actually, I doubt this)
SF/OF - Batum (possible)
PG - Blake (probably would porefer to keep, but would be willing to swap for that PG).

And frankly those are their B-listers. And yeah, might be a gem or two there and would not mind having them, but you get the feeling you would have a hard time convincing the Blazers to give them up on anythign but their own terms. And we have neither a PG to fill their hole for them, nor backup bigs any better than what they have.

First off, I think Bayless has better point guard skills than some people give him credit for. After his return from an injury, the starting two was injured and he was forced to play the two instead of the pt position. When playing the pt he, in my opinion played very well. He definitely has a score first mentality, but certainly has pt guard skills.

However, I simply don't see any deals happening. Portland didn't aquire all this talent by being stupid and I don't think Petrie is stupid. So I agree with Bricky that they will overvalue their talent and the Kings are not in the position to overpay for anything right now.

Frankly, I think Blake is the only one they're willing to sack--charting some Blazers preseason games, I think it's hard to get Rodriguez now that he's resurfaced as passer extraordinaire he was always made out to be on draft day--and besides, they might like their Spanish factor in Rodriguez-Fernandez with all those lob passes, and he'll probably supplant Blake soon in the starting lineup. I don't think they're playing him to strengthen his value, and if we really wanted him I think the best time to take him would've been last year when he was basically irrelevant for them. Blake has always been the sort of dead man walking for them, basically a holdover solid PG until someone more talented--whether it be Rodriguez or someone else--replaces him. And considering that we're a cellar-dwelling team, and Blake is 28 and won't improve much from here on out, there's no point in taking him either.

Batum is someone who intrigues me and may be had, considering all the athletic freaks stockpiled already on that team, and he may be a carbon copy version of Travis Outlaw, perhaps with less offense/more defense. However, probably not this year--Pritchard holds on to his super young talent right up onto his vest, and probably wants to have a look at him first. He's actually producing in the steals department right now so I think Portland would keep him. Same goes for Bayless--super young talent, probably would take a year or so to evaluate; they'll look to see if he can develop some PG skills to perhaps contest Blake for the future PG spot.

Obviously, Channing Frye and Ike Diogu could be had in the right deals; both are still relatively young, and scouts do see them as mild "value" players considering that Diogu has shown some extreme scoring potential in the past, and Frye was a very good rookie long ago with the Knicks. OF course, though, as Brick, one is soft and one is earthbound, and in effect they replicate many of the problems our team has. So no to both.

Talent wise I think Rodriguez is the odd one out. He isn't a McMillian guy, and it has been said that Pritchard was the one who covets him. With Blake, McMillian has a steady hand to run the half court sets and he plays D. A backcourt of Blake/Roy/Bayless could be very good and versatile moving forward. It's similar to our old rotation of Bibby/Christie/Jackson.

Blake is an expiring so that may play into who gets moved or not.

Don't forget the Blazers also have PG Petteri Koponen in Euro.

Sergio Rodriguez agent just made a public request for a trade from the Blazers, basically saying Sergio is frustrated with his role and Coach McMillan doesn't like him.

He's playing only like 9mpg, but he's also shooting only 27% but he has a great assist:turnover ratio in those limited minutes (7.5:1), he's always looking to get the ball to a teammate in scoring position.

Would he be worth a look? He makes only about a million this season, $1.8 million next season. Which current King would the Blazers be interested in and how much would you give up to get him?

I think the Kings have enough young talents for now to experiment and develop. The only talent to consider in any trade with the Blazers is if it involves Oden. Any trade other than involving Oden would be a gamble and would not be that much significant in building a championship team.

Any trade for a Blazer not involving Oden would be a gamble?

Sounds like you got that backwards. With the amount of talent the Kings would have to give up and Oden's injury history that sounds like one of the biggest gambles the Kings could make, regardless of what team they're dealing with.

The most consistent trade chatter these days, besides anything involving Harrington or Wallace, maintains that no team in circulation is more motivated to deal than Portland ... as long as you don't ask the Blazers for Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge or, yes, Greg Oden.

Sergio Rodriguez is not on trading block

Though a report has surfaced in a Spanish newspaper that Trail Blazers point guard Sergio Rodriguez wants a trade, general manager Kevin Pritchard says that the team is "not in any discussions." Rodriguez is an exciting young player who would be an intriguing fantasy player with more playing time, but he's currently buried in a backup role in Portland, and that's not likely to change anytime soon.
