Some Positive News Regarding Cousins

A King Is Born
What a difference a week makes. DeMarcus Cousins is throwing his hat into the Rookie of the Year race.

With John Wall often injured (missing 11 games so far), DeMarcus is the only other rookie who has a remote chance of challenging Blake Griffin for the ROY award.

Unless DMC goes bonkers the rest of the season, Blake wins it. But its good to see he is climbing up the rookie ladders and is getting noticed.

most of the posts on the negative thread support cousins, so that's kind of positive.

That's true. I was noticing that on Grant's show today, not one single caller supported Cousins. They all sided with Westphal and Grant. Seems a little odd considering that most fans on forums side with Cousins.

In order for Cousins to get positive supporters, he needs to do positive things. I don't just mean having 4 or 5 good games in a row and totally forgetting the fact that he still a immature kid. Trust and high praise isn't easily given, it has to be earned.

Which to you would be what? Saving kittens stuck in burning buildings? Donating all of his money to Loaves and Fishes? Finding a cure for AIDS?

How about stop pouting whenever you don't get a call your way? How about not acting so immature when your out there playing? How about just shutting up and playing the game so the refs don't target you as a walking technical waiting to happen?

But that would apply to just about every young player to have ever suited up in the NBA (and some older ones too: Gasol(Both of them, even the fat one), Kobe, just about anyone who is a star in this league)

Only problem is we do not know if Cousins will become a star in this league. It will be up to his work ethic, attitude and approach towards getting better.

As it was up to all of the other players in the league as well. Could he end up as a Derrick Coleman? Possibly. Could he wind up fulfilling his potential? It's also possible. Only time will tell. Just as we didn't know if Pau or Garnett would be a star in this league, Cousins still has many years ahead of him to fulfill his potential.

Absolutely it will be up to him. Only he is his own worst enemy quite frankly inorder to become an "average" player or a "star" player.

Although, honestly, the true center position in the modern NBA is so underutilized that Cousins may already be "above average". (Note: I'm too lazy to actually research stuff tonight so a blanket statement will have to suffice for tonight.)

You know, with Cousins, he just needs to realize time and place. If the Kings were on a 3 game winning streak, or were playing much better than they are know, then matters like him making the choking sign are moot! If the Kings had any solid veterans, they would set him down and put him in his place. I have not heard of ANY rookie hazing of Cousins and That bothers me more than anything else. There used to be stand up players on this team who would make sure rookies stood in their place. Players like Bobby Jackson or Vlade Divac would have put this kid right down in his place. Just because you are starting for a BAD TEAM that is desperate for wins who has no remarkable veterans to control the locker, doesn't mean that you can act any old way you want! OMG this guy would have more than Popcorn in his whip for some of the BS he has already pulled. Why no rookie Hazing? Is Cousins such a malcontent that none of his fellow teammates feel comfortable hazing him? This is a valid question. Is Cousins trying to Big Time the other players on this team and act like he can act any way he wants to act? I understand WHY he is getting thrown out of practices and fined for childish crap! And the problem is, Westphal doesn't have the veteran leadership on this team to really get to Cousins. So until they bring in a veteran all star or a player with enough star power to tone Cousins down, it will continue to be like this. As it is, he thinks the Kings HAVE to start him to win (which hasn't worked lately...).

I say let him watch from the bench for a coupla weeks and then work him back into the lineup. He will eventually mature a bit more and he will perhaps appreciate the minutes that he does get. Dalembert isn't a terrible center like we used to have. It's just that the rest of the team is so lacking in any talent that the little they were getting from Cousins was actually helping the Kings. And I am certain that a majority of the players on this team do NOT know where they stand. Are they part of the future plans? Are they going to get blown out during the next makeover or coaching change? It is obvious the leadership of this team has not told many of their players where they stand, so these players are looking at the situation and wondering what they have to gain from busting their hump on a bad team. They are NOT dumb. I am sure they have their agents whispering in their ears that this team wont be the same next season, with the major changes the Maloofs will make after the new CBA. The Maloofs have already said in so many words that there will be a major shakeup and that they will be bringing in new players to replace the players on the team. The ONLY players on the Kings with Job Security are the ROOKIES! No matter how well they play or how much they make, players not named Evans or Cousins are trade bait for anything that the GM sees as an improvement on the team. So this whole "CHOKE GATE" nonsense has a more sinister underpinning I believe. The giant murals on the Arena, the Tyreke 20-5-5 run that traded wins for one player to get to that magic number is coming back to haunt the Kings Ownership!

Cousins already won the ROY award with no opponent even close to him:

Year
Wow real clever there. Cousins pouting and body language has improved quite a bit over the last few games. He still needs to work on getting his *** off the floor and running back down when he doesn't get a call. He tends to just lie there in disbelief while the other team runs down 5 on 4.

I don't even care whether Cousins gets ROY. What's important to me is his contribution to the team this season. Awards take care of themselves. Also, Evans ROY was certainly not a good example. We here on this site get all lathered up about it and, in the end, I'm not sure it was good for him or the team.

I hope Cousins gets his stuff together and keeps playing and getting better for the rest of the season. He got penalized for foolishness so he has to live with that. Don't screw with us, Cousins.

Sorry to reply to this from so far back, but I thought it was worth mentioning. The apparent avalanche of one-sided public opinion could be because the producers get to hand pick what calls go on the air and the current company line is to dog on Cousins.

Not necessarily coming to his defense myself because this is quickly becoming our worst case scenario for him, but thought that might explain the discrepancy.

I certainly seems like some screening might be going on there to ensure that only callers that reinforce Grant's opinion get on.

With Tyreke struggling so much, th only reason I watch these days is for cousins. Him being benched causes me problems
