That was always the Theus style over substance motto.Reggie said so. Hey if we're going to be a bad team, might as well have fun being a bad team.

i didnt know we just hired a 5'3/never been an NBA player for a coach again?? Man, the similaritiesExactly what Muss said last year. Deja-Vu.
Theus didn't say they were going to run and gun. He said he believes the game of basketball (in general) was meant to be played up-tempo. That said, he acknowledged that there are times when you have to slow things down. He also made several comments about team defense. After listening to his press conference, I didn't get the impression that he was going to try turn the Kings offense into the Dallas Mavericks circa 2002-2003. Rather, he gave the impression that he wants the team to push the ball when the situation warrants it. There's a big difference between an up-tempo team and a run and gun team.

No, we hired the 6'7"former player/never even been a coach this time.
But Muss did say similar things last offseason, and he is actually a far betetr Xs and Os guy than Theus likely is. Difference is...or at least could be, that if we make enough major offseson moves Theus could actually have a team capable of running. Whether such a team would actually be capable of winning while running is another thing altogether.
Ours was a team of mis-mashed styles and personalities last year. I count at least three: the softie shooting Princeton holdover of Brad/Bibby, the slow, burly post game of Ron/SAR (and once Bonzi), and the somewhat run-and-gun, if not chaotic Kevin and Cisco. I hope that this means we're finally trying to find ourselves an identity, and it fitz the youth that we already have.
Now, where to go from here? Aside from assembling a veteran coaching staff, of course, but player wise? Think Yi would be a potential fit as big man in the draft, so anything to try to scoop him up a couple picks early, while simultaneously jettisoning one of the ill-fitting vets would be advisable.
FWIW, Jerry Reynolds said that Yi wouldn't go past 10. So, if you can take his words literally, we'll draft him if he's there.![]()
im liking this guy, cant wait until the season starts.

run and gun is cool if you have player that can play both fast and slow... the problem that gsw had was they had no post players to counter slower teams like utah... if we can move thomas and maybe miller but keep reef we could be a pretty balanced run and gun team.
Didnt Musselman say that he wanted the team identity to be that of defense? I thought he did.The most important thing I've heard from Reggie so far is that he wants to help the team - whomever they are - have an identity again.
Considering that was one of my and several other long-time fans main complaints - the total lack of team identity - I think it's just another indication that Theus is at least aware of what the problems are.
I've thought about this all day and I'm really excited about the upcoming season. If Reggie can bring fun, identity and good basketball back to Arco, then he's my new (and original) hero!!!
GO KINGS!!!!
I really hope you are right. There's a significant difference, IMHO, Heuge. Musselman was NEVER a player. He couldn't speak from the player viewpoint, as Reggie has done today.
You don't have to buy into what I'm saying. It's my opinion, of course. But I do not see the need nor rationale in continuing to compare what and how Theus is saying things to how Musselman said them.
Reggie also mentioned something about having a team that was fun to be on and fun to watch. I can't quote him exactly but he mentioned the locker room problems and how he wants it to get back to where the players are glad to come to work. That's the type of identity I want for my Kings.
This could be a whole lot of fun and I think there's even reason to believe what Reggie has said. He wasn't just talking to try and sell himself to the Maloofs. He already had a very good position in New Mexico State.
Don't worry. You'll be won over soon enough.
