So was the 8th seed "worthless" and "pointless" to go after?

I think the Maloofs are kicking themselves (Joe kicking Gavin, Gavin kicking Joe) for not hiring Nellie. Didn't he want to coach the Kings?

Eh...I think he probably did...but Joe and Gavin obviously didnt answer the phone when he called. Whether that was a good or bad thing...in the end...ouch! It ALL hurt this last season.

That is easily the most convoluted analogy I've come across in a long time.

How 'bout this then.

The Kings management really wanted "it" (the high #1 pick) badly. But they didn't want to take the conscious step of playing the young guys big minutes (losing) in order to get "it". They were concerned about appearances. So they played their vets enough to mask their real intent of losing. Because they played this pretend game they never got what they really wanted - the high #1 pick. What they did was to sacrifice a high #1 in order to put forth the appearance that they really did want to win those meaningless games coming down the stretch. We lost a high number 1 because of a charade.

I have to disagree that they actually wanted a high pick. Management seemed rather aloof to the whole situation. They wanted to make the playoffs, they would love to be in Golden State's shoes right now no matter how destructive that would be to the future competitiveness of this franchise.

I'm not convinced they did, frankly.

I firmly believe that the Kings management (or, at least, whichever part is running things) is every bit as naive and shortsighted as the silliest and most "we can do it!" of giddy fans. And I will continue to believe that until I see even the slightest hint of evidence to the contrary.

Also, I don't think they were terribly concerned about "appearances." If so, they underestimated how all of this looks. They, like a lot of people, wanted to make the playoffs and have that miracle upset all to themselves.

I know they wanted to make the playoffs, but when it was clear that they weren't, do you really think that they didn't want that high #1? You know, maybe you're right. I've been assuming they wanted that high #1 pick, but maybe I shouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt on that! If so, that would be really sad...

I'm sure at some point they wanted it, but they held out hope of the playoffs too long to give themselves a real shot at it.

Hey Miles, I envy your optimism but I think you have gone more than just a little too far with it. In fact your whole post is all but pointless to be honest. Who cares how many fans wanted the kings to tank the end of the season? No one dictates how the Kings play but themselves. They didn't make the playoffs for one simple reason...They weren't good enough. It's not like we are even talking about a team that just barely missed the playoffs by a game or something. Come on man. This team went something like 8-17 in the last 2 months lol.

It wasn't a shot at the FANS it was more a shot at all the people in this forum that kept saying the 8th seed was worthless because they had "NO SHOT" against the Mavericks in the playoffs. So instead of going after the 8th seed we should just tank. I understand the team wasn't good. At this point I wish they had lost more games. But the 8th seed is not worthless I would much rather have made the playoffs.

The people in this forum who were saying those things ARE fans.
