So let's say STOP collects the needed signatures...

Tangential to the the Arena petition situation, Is anybody concerned over the fact that Kevin McCarty will giving a deposition over what he claims was a back room deal between the city and the new owners? The story has been circling for a few days yet I've read no comments about it what so ever. I certainly hope there is no truth to his allegations. As we all know, he's been anti arena from the beginning so it may be some sour grapes or a way to save face among his constituents.

I understand that the allegations are that the city deliberately undervalued the land that they are giving up in the term sheet. But city lawyers say no, so I don't know why there's a reason to worry. I think the reason why nobody is posting about it is that it looks like a pure fishing expedition by the desperate anti-arena happiness haters. I'm also not under the impression that McCarty claimed there was a backroom deal - just that the antis think they can get dirt out of him because he's on their side.

I don't even get it. Why are these people so adamant about stopping our arena from being built. What is their reasoning? Is it because they believe people will end up paying more taxes? They're obviously very passionate about shutting this thing down I just wanna know why.

An arena for our city is a huge deal. It will create so many jobs, boost our economy, and make Sacramento relevant . Like what the hell is wrong with these people? Not to mention the way they collected the signatures / their financial backbone (Chris Hansen) just makes them look even worse.

There has to be a way to stop these idiots from getting what they want. The whole thing is so stupid.

Like the Capt. said, it was allegations that the city deliberately undervalued their land. It's a catch-22, if there is no development (i.e. no arena) the property isn't worth much. After the arena is built, the property WILL BE worth a whole lot more. The opponents of the arena think the city should have valued the land what it might be worth if the arena had already been built or what it will be worth after it's built. Yet they refuse to acknowledge that it won't be worth that anytime in the foreseeable future without the arena, the very thing that they are trying to STOP.

They do not want Sacramento to change. They fear the arena BECAUSE it will create more jobs, boosting the economy and result in a more diverse and exciting city.

wow, if that's the real reason then that's so dumb. They don't want their own city to thrive? Who wouldn't want that, I mean come on. What boring people, screw STOP

There are people who did not want light rail, they do not want a new arena, they simply want things to remain the same. They resent the fact that people from outside the city limits of Sacramento dare to think Sacramento is also their city. They're elitists...and you have them in every city. They had them in San Antonio when that city went through similar difficulties in getting a new arena for the Spurs (although the surrounding drama was nowhere near as intense). Had Chris Hansen not given them the funds, this would all be over and done and the STOP people would have already crawled back into their little hobbit holes.

The anti-arena people I know throw around terms like, "corporate welfare", and say silly things like, "We don't need a new arena, we have a perfectly good one right now!". They don't understand the financial workings of the deal, so they believe sites like Field of Schemes, that assume "worst case scenarios" for everything, and are convinced that Sac will be filing for bankruptcy before the arena even opens.

I think that many anti-arena see this as a David and Goliath sorta thing. The big evil corporation is coming to Sacramento and threatening to take away its basketball team if the city doesn't bow down to them. They feel the need to defend the "little guy" (the homeless, the poor, etc) since they have been brainwashed into thinking that the arena will negatively impact them...as well as parks, schools, libraries, etc.

Any logic to counter their arguments is met with personal insults, so I just leave them alone...

The anti arena folk use taxes and corporate welfare as their rallying cry because it creates an emotional reaction from people.

In reality, STOP is just selfish and self centered. They don't care about professional sports or anything that an arena represents, so they want no one to have it. They want any potential money spent by the city to go towards only things that matter to them personally.

Most rational people can look at a situation and understand that although they may not use a service, it benefits the community and in turn benefits them. STOP members are like spoiled kids and can't see this.

What's ironic is big business (Chris Hansen) and dirty politicians are taking advantage of STOPs foolishness. The very thing STOP claims to be protecting the people from.

OK. About a few days later I look back on my last post. I might have been saying that out of anger and "jokingly" a bit, although it didn't come across that way (the movie Casino with the scene where Pesci eliminated a woman who was suing the chairman of the board of the Tangiers came to mind lol). After a while you want to stoop to their level to show them how stupid they are. I am so sick of those people who probably don't even live in the city limits trying to decide what they want and don't want for the city. I am tired of 3rd parties like Hansen paying these people to thwart our efforts. I am officially registered to vote in the city of Sac now. I took residence at my nieces house downtown. Boy is she going to hate me "living" there. Especially when the rest of my family "moves" in with her too. Hopefully if there are no rules on voting vs how long you've been a residence.

If I am reading your post correctly, aren't you doing exactly what you say you are sick of? I suspect there are rules about whether or not you actually "live" or have "moved to" where you claim.

My reasoning is just. Theirs is not. It's a matter of what's right and wrong, and if I have to take up residence with my niece in Sac to get a vote then so be it. In this case two wrongs do make a right. At least in my line of thinking. We will NOT lose the Kings because of these douchebags after fighting so hard and spending so much money.

No, your reasoning is not just. You're advocating voter fraud, dude. That's cheating and it makes you no different than the signature gatherers who fraudulently signed the names of dead people. When you say "living" and "moves" - with the quotation marks - it's pretty obvious what you're saying.

Oh well then.. I've already made up my mind on how I feel about those idiot STOP people. And who's to say I don't live with my niece? sheesh..... Psssshhh.... geez....

Gary,

You do realize that the people involved with STOP most likely think their cause is just, noble or whatever other delusions they may have. You do realize that they probably have made up their minds in terms of those "idiot corporate welfare guys" (ignoring the investment into the City).

If all goes as it should, with much thanks to STOP's own mistakes, this will never get to a vote.

You can feel anyway you want towards them and their actions, but when you cross that line you have become them. Don't be them.

I mean no offense, Whozit

I doubt it will come to this, but trolls need to be met with even more powerful trolls. Those Jedi Padawan STOP trolls don't know the type of Sith troll they are dealing with. :)

Isn't today the day that the city clerk will start the lawsuits in motion one way or the other?

I'll be glued to twitter all day. About to get interesting I think.

Don't compare them to hobbits, hobbits are awesome. They are more like orcs, but the really dumb ones that just get hit with falling rocks without moving.
