So how does Coach Muss Change Things??

The Kings finally have a coach. Welcome Muss! Now we can move on to player personnel moves...

So now, how do things change? What is Muss' system? Who stays? Who goes? Discuss...
 
Hang a ? over Bonzi's head obviously.

Not sure what it might do to any idea of getting Bobby.

Would think Brad might become expendable, but its hard to tell -- Muss did coach Troy Murphy.


Think we need somebody who was in the Bay Area for those years to give us a full report. I eman, how many Golden State games did YOU watch during those years? :p Me too.

Muss and the Maloofs need to decide what they wnat to do about Bonzi, if they play to try and keep him Muss needs to have a man to man with him. As for team type plans I would suggest simply watching tape of every Kings game after the Artest trade and taking notes, then deciding how to optomize the teams effectiveness on each end of the court... simple to say, much more complicated to do.

Alot willl also hinge on how much power the Maloofs are givnign him, that is to say how much influecne will Muss have in drafting, trading and signing FAs.
 
cant wait to see how he uses the bench players... if it werent for the injuries we would never see our bench with adelman, i'm going to miss him though....

I'll admit that the Warriors' ownership and upper management decisions make the KIngs' former draft and trade botches (Joe Klein over Karl Malone...Pervis Ellison over Shaun Elliot, etc.) not look so bad.
 
Bonzi and Muss

It's pretty simple. Musselman is a defensive oriented coach. Wells plays great defense and is a tremendous rebounder for a 2. If they had any differences in Memphis, they should both be able to man-up and put the past in the past. The Kings need Bonzi, and Petrie needs to call his agent to get a deal done... or at least give it their best shot.
 
I remember his days in Oakland rather fondly. I would watch just about every Warriors game, I really liked they way they played back then. But I don't know if you can look at that roster and get any ideas because they had a lot of young players. I did like that Fortson, Dampier, Foyle, Murphy big man combo though. Fortson was a beast back then and he played a lot of C. I don't know if thats because Muss liked to go small as much as that's what he had to work with.

But they had 3 defensive minded big men, we have ZERO. Something will change along those lines for sure. Muss has been known as an "up-tempo" coach, but I also think that had a lot to do with his roster in GS.

Bobby was just on the Monarchs pre-game and said he'd love to come back to Sac if the $$$ is right. Nothing but love for the city and fans.

Tue, Muss did adapt his style to that team. However, he will also have a lot of pieces here he did not have in GS. Arenas, Jamison and a young J-Rich were terrible defensively. Artest, Bonzi, and Garcia will give Muss much better wing defence. Also, we might lack the shot blocking that Dampier brought to the four-headed monster, but Thomas and Shareef have shown they can play tough. It will be interesting to see if Muss can revive the Pacer's version of Brad Miller too. If not, he'll probably be shipped out rather quickly.
 
I wish Miller would go back to his Indiana form when he was somewhat of a bad boy...Maybe it could make him play a lick of defense.
 
He is a very smart coach who I believe could have a long tenure here. He is a match-up type of guy who can exploit the other teams weaknesses. He did that alot in GS with little talent. With this talent and the potential for massive mismatches he could be GREAT!!
 
The Bobby thing can't happen unless Jason Hart gets packaged up in a someone kind of deal. Very high praise has come from the Kings on Ronny Price, so they will probably keep him around.

Hart already opted in for the 2nd year of his contract. So, we have him unless we trade him. But Jason Hart is a better defender than Bobby Jackson. Especially at this point. Every year Bobby is just going to get a little bit slower. He's aging, you can't do anything about it.
 
I don't know squat about how Muss makes his teams play, but Hart may actually be useful in the new system, whatever it is. We all know he struggled badly with Adelman's offense.
 
I agree about Hart, he's very tenacious on defense and I think when he got consistent minutes he played to his strengths (who doesn't?), and actually got better scoring sometimes when that happened. I think if he stays around he'll get more time, and have a year in Sac under him (even if the old system is gone). Back-up PG will be interesting to watch, with Price/Hart/maybe someone new.

I don't think you can say anything about Bonzi/Musselman, as I didn't and have not read any evidence of there being bad between them, but just between he and Fratello. While that is how it was with Fratello and Bobby, commenting positively on Musselman. So despite no evidence, I think the most recent thing can give indication because it was over a similar problem in utilization of the player.
 
Hart is not and never will be an impact player. That contract might be the only thing holding him out of the unemployemnt line. Certainly nobody you hold up a move to get a Bobby Jackson for...assuming Bobby is not fading too fast. And if you have Bobby as the #2 safety blanket, it makes it far more practical to have Price as a #3 without pressure to perform. And Jason...trade him, keep him as a #13, does not matter. He has no instincts, no court vision.

I really liked when Garcia played the backup point for us, before he got injured. He really has great vision and was good at setting up the offense. If Garcia can work on his shooting (which is what he's known for), I'm in favor of him taking on the backup PG responsibilites.
 
I was just wondering, now that our coach is Musselman, what are the chances of us going after Speedy Claxton in free agency. Speedy played for Musselman with the warriors and they both seem to have a great deal respect for each other.

Agreed. I thought the same thing during the press conference. Now as long as we don't go after Dampier too, I'll be ok.
 
I'd love to see us get Claxton, but the latest has been he and the Hornets are talking a 5-year contract w/ the MLE.

Respect or no, the problem for Speedy is that so long as Bibby is here the minutes won't be for Speedy unless we wanted to try the New Orleans and run the ultra-mini Bibby/Claxton backcourt. :eek:
 
yes have no illusions we could have speedy, bobby, jason and price and Bibby would still play 40 min. I don't matter who the backup is that isn't going to change and neither is ron playing those min. now as far as the other startes it could be less. but ron and Mike will be avergaing 40 during a normal game.
