Dumbest post ever. And that's saying something.

I added the obvious (0%) response since you neglected to do so. Keith Smart will not be back. Period. End of discussion.

I hope you're right. I believe he is still under contract through '13-'14

Doesn't matter. Musselman, Theus and Westphal were all still under contract when they were fired. With the cheap contract Smart signed, I'm beyond certain the Fab Four could pay it off with pocket change.

You had to add the 0% option? That made me laugh.

KF Jay, I'd be impressed if anyone can come up with a singe legitimate reason as to why new ownership would keep Smart. We'll go through a much needed and deserved overhaul similar to GS, if not even more. New coach, new FO, new marketing campaign, it'll be a rebirth. And you can't have a rebirth and distance yourself from previous ownership by keeping the same idiot coach in place. Don't forget Smart's salary is either the lowest or second lowest among NBA coaches. Buying it out isn't a problem. Even the Maloofs regularly pay two coaches at once.

The only possible negative this summer is a new GM possibly valuing a couple of our pieces incorrectly. But that remains to be seen.

well...with howard cooper hinting the verrrry unlikely sceanario where the maloofs may keep the team if sea is rejected, that leaves the slightest possibility for smart to remain the coach next year.

though, i dont believe SHC's report and think maloofs are out one way or another....so with them goes keith smart.

No chance he's back. The new ownership group (whoever it is) will want to clean house and that starts with front office and coaching staff.

Nope. KF Jay has been a member since 2010. We don't have a problem with trolls because this is a moderated forum. Trolls are dealt with rather quickly.

ahhh ok, its just a dumb question becaus ehe should know that when we get new ownership we are getting an actual coach that knows how to coach, the new owners want to win not lose games due to sub patterns

This is being discussed in the "Off the Court" forum. The Maloofs don't have the option to keep the team. David Stern has made it very clear in that regard. SHC was repeating a rumor from within the MSE camp.

Yes, VF21, but I haven't yet heard that a sale of the Kings to the Sacramento group has to happen on any tight schedule. Therefore, if it happens after, say Nov first or later you know the Maloofs will not fire him - it costs money. So there is a legitimate rational for Smart being coach for a part or all of next year.

The NBA can use the "best of the league" clause to step in and force the sale if necessary. Time is of the essence, especially when you're talking about getting started on a state-of-the-art arena that will showcase the Kings AND the NBA. In addition, if the new ownership group is actually going to bring back the WNBA, they need to get that ball rolling too.

And there's one other thing that hasn't been brought up but the Fab Four (Burkle/Mastrov/Jacobs/Ranadive) could probably bring considerable pressure to bear on the financially-crippled Maloofs, who are now apparently banking their entire "fortune" on a brand of vodka. They NEED the money this sale will generate. They cannot afford to hold out.

I picked 1%

I can make multiple wacky cases for him staying, which is why I said 1% ... you never know, right? We could hire someone as our new GM or FO guy that has some sort of good prior relationship with Smart. We could even KEEP Petrie, who makes the case that he's been dealing with no funding for the past 4+ years, and then Petrie opts to keep Smart, etc.

Obviously not very realistic scenarios given the teams performance over the last few years, I'm just not willing to say its impossible.

I've heard from a former Kings beat writer (Howard-Cooper?) that if the NBA doesn't approve the sell of the team to Seattle, the Magoofs could be stubborn an either a)sue the NBA and/or b)keep the team. Is this even possible? This would be Keith Smart's best case scenario because the magoofs are liable to keep Lame Duck Smart and Petrie on for another year.

This is being discussed in the Off the Court forum in great detail. There are a lot of twists and turns about the two different votes required - one from the relocation committee and one from the finance committee. Because there is another offer on the table for the team, if the sale or relocation to Seattle is not approved, the Maloofs will be pretty much forced to take the other legitimate offer. If they don't, the NBA could take control of the team under the "best interests of the league" clause and sell it, with the Maloof still getting their money but not being able to throw any further wrenches into the deal. AND, if they get the same amount of money at the end, there would be no actionable cause for a lawsuit.
