SLAM Top 50 (Tyreke #22)

Interesting to say the least. It's good to see he is top 25 without a jumpshot and only heading into his sophomore year. By the end of the year he should maybe crack the top 20. I read some of the readers' comments saying that he got ball dominant towards the end of the season and put up those great numbers because of the team he was on. That is why it's going to be a good test for him this year to see if he can maintain his scoring efficiency while racking up more assists. Overall, I don't mind where they put him, I don't know who is all before him or after but he's getting there.

It shows he is rated #6 for PG... Who are the 5 ahead of him?

Dwayne Wade
Deron Williams
Chris Paul
Rajon Rondo
????????

I'd say for now D. Rose is better than Reke. He is more established and has a consistent mid-range jumper. I do however, feel that Reke will eventually surpass Rose, but for the time being Rose is the better player IMO.

I think Reke is likely to pass Rose this season simply because he has the more natural path upward toward superstardom, and if Nash slows with age he could pass him as well. Rondo is of course an oddity, but if Reke pops up with a 24pt 5reb 6ast type of season its going to be increasingly hard to justify an offensively challenged roleplayer as the better player.

Barring major explosion -- getting up over 25pts, maybe 7ast or some sort, passing Deron and CP3 will have to wait for another season.

As an aside, I nabbed Reke at #23 and #25 in the two fantasy drafts I've been in so far. :) In the 12 person draft where I got him #23 I got Lebron in the first round, Reke in the second (and Iggy in the third). After 7 years of chasing and bad injury luck, maybe I will finally win one of those yahoo public leagues. :p

There's so many ignorant basketball fans out there: the ones who claim evans shouldn't be that high or ROY last year because he didn't make the playoffs like Brandon or can't shoot like curry. And that he plays off the ball 90% of the time? WTF?

You know, there did seem to be some stat paddery towards the end of last season though. Our record closing out the year was horrible, even as Reke put up historic stats. I dont think thats on Reke though, the team as a whole might have just lost a bit of focus, getting so caught up in the 20/5/5 thing. I mean, Reke powered us to a couple Ws, and came close a few times (that one game against the Spurs where he scored something like 12 pts in less than 1:30 at the end of regulation)..And I think there's going to be a lot more of that (Reke being a badass MFer) this season.

Basically, what I'm rambling about is I can see where these misconceptions come from about Reke being a ball dominant stat padder. Do I agree with that outsider/hater perspective? Hell no! Reke is ball dominant, but you want your superstars to be that way, and it is becoming more and more clear that Reke is going to be THAT good (worst case, top 10, best case top 5). Tyreke is going to be turning even more heads this season. Memories are short, two seasons ago people were talking **** on Durant, and now he's one of the league posterboys.

One more thing. I think Reke vs Curry actually was debatable last season. Curry is an amazing shooter and passer, regardless of the system he plays in. But with Tyreke improving his shot, the debate is gonna be dead and buried by this years allstar break. Reke FTW. And only crazies and Bucks fans bothered with Reke vs Jennings. That is an lol of the highest order.

most of the leagues that I got Reke in, I was able to get him in the third round...

God, Derrick Rose is SO overrated. It makes me want to throw up. He plays very light defense and still cant shoot worth a damn. Give me Westbrook over Rose any day. Furthermore Rose isnt a top 5 point guard in the NBA, damnit lol

Id say its already dead and buried. People seem to forget that defense is half of the game.

I think Rose is likely to pass both Nash & Rondo this season.

It's a tough call between Rose & Rondo. Rose can score more, but Rondo is more of a distributor. Rondo is a ball hawk and gets lots of steals, Rose is a decent defender. So it really kind of depends on what you look out of them and how they help their teams, respectively, win ball games. I'd give Rondo MAYBE the slight edge for now on D. Rose just based on experience alone, but D. Rose is not too far behind.

Rose is already past Rondo IMO. It's going to be interesting to see whether Nash finally starts to decline this season.

That will be interesting because he's shown no sign of it really so far... which is amazing. Isn't he way into yoga or something?

His game is also really based on court vision, creativity, and deceptive quickness. All of that translates to getting better with age. He is also in a system that is ideal for him. I would think he's got at least three years left in the tank. He's also doing a lot of charitable stuff and other business stuff, so I can see him wanting to stay in the league to maintain a high profile in order to help with those ventures. If I had to guess, I'd say he plays 5 more years. I mean the guy averaged 11 assists a game and shot 43 percent from three last year. Not only is he not slowing down, he's gettting better!

He'll be slowing down soon. Happens to everybody. Might be able to take the Stockton path of just decelerating into the final stop rather than the sudden crash, but its coming, and soon for him same as it does for everybody. Lots of times it will be an injury that you won't quite be able to shake, legs will get tired, whatever. There's no magic yoga bullet for that. You just wear out.
