Signs of improvement to look for now that Wesphal if gone, what do you want to see?

I am more of a Kings fan than an educated basketball fan. What should we be looking for as positive signs of improvement now that we have a new coach? Winning and keeping games competitive is the easiest thing to see. What else do you expect to see? Smooth offense? Unselfish play? Players hustling and getting back on defense to stop these fast breaks?

The selfish play has been the hardest thing to watch and what I hope to see improved. Tyerke forcing the ball in was great when he finished everything around the basket with circus shots, now he forces it, misses and complains about not getting a foul call.

So what will you be looking for?

Also do you all think that the players will play any differently for the assistant coach then they did for the coach? I feel like they will have even less respect for this guy. I guess this is not a case of how will this help but that it couldn't be worse so it is worth a shot.

Playoff run!

But when that doesnt happen....Gradual improvements on offense AND defense. Our young players will still be sloppy, and all the bad habits that Westphail fostered still need to get smushed out, but gradual improvement is all I want, considering we've dealt with gradual decline for about 7 years now.

Jimmer Starting and used as a point guard not off guard. I want Tyreke and Thornton coming off the bench so their selfishness has no effect on Jimmer's opportunity to create.

Wow, Jimmer fans are passionate. I have seen Jimmer make some bad decisions that stopped ball movement as well. Mostly driving and getting in over his head and having to make a bad pass or commit a turnover.

Ball movement and a cohesive offense would be a refreshing change.

I think you can expect the first as a short term improvement because it's easier to fix. A long term improvement would be a cohesive offense. By long term, I'm thinking about 1 week. We're due for some time off, aren't we?

Not sure you've been watching the same games as me because Jimmer is just as guilty as Reke and MT in the selfishness department

I have watched every game. The kings would be better off with Jimmer running the point than anyone else on the team. How can not everyone see this?

I want a single quantifiable thing. If a player is open and determined to score, please take the open shot instead of forcing it inside (at least half the time).

Perhaps we are watching with different eyes. Jimmer seemed to jack up quite a few ill-advised shots last night. To his defense, so did everyone else.

Jimmer was noteworthy by being very selfish last night and also being ineffective. To me that was alarming as he seemed at first to have something to prove as a PG but last night he seemed to just want to jack up shots. I suspect that will change by tonight.

First I'll be looking for effort. Are they getting back on D and and are they rebounding? If they are doing those simple things, then how about playing some good pressure D? I'm not looking for them to lead the league anytime soon in assist/turnover ratio. This team has to be built from the ground up. It's going to take a while. Maybe a long while.

i want it to look like they actually give a ****, that would be a good start. after that, ball movement, defensive cohesiveness, guys playing for the team, not themselves, you know things GOOD teams are supposed to do.

it must be his .366 FG% and 10.1FGA per 2.6apg averages blinding us.

as an aside:

Reke
.420 FG%
19.0 FGA/48
4.5 Ast/48
3.5 TO/48

Jimmer
.366 FG%
19.1 FGA/48
4.9 Ast/48
3.2 TO/48

Now we got problems. But how anybody could say that player B has really been showing himself as hugely superior to Player A, or virtually anyone, so far is..well best explained by being a fan of Player B. Maybe in time. Right now he's a struggling rook who was struggling with the same system, or lack thereof, the other guys were.

Too early to take a team with no chemistry or system and make them much better on the court, but the one thing the coach can and should control is minutes. The starting unit needs to be play at least 34 minutes a game, that's why they're starters. More Hayes and Cousins together because without them both on the floor this team just can't rebound well.

Please...under the circumstances what would you do. No one will pass you the ball. They ignore you out there and Jimmer is one of the most potent scorers I have ever seen play. So he probably thought might as well shoot it after all he has been dealing with. Dude can run an offense and as soon as we get one you will see. I don't think most people realize what they have in Jimmer.

If the guards keep jacking up garbage at the basket your transition D is going to suck anyway. Sure, the Kings need to get back more but having multiple missed shots out of the context of what ever system you are trying to run will cause run outs on the other end.

hmmm....I take the rookie then if they are that close. That would give Jimmer 10 more minutes, plus his shot selection will be better when he is running to offense instead of waiting to receive the ball from someone. Plus we know he will pass it on the break!

1. Lineup changes: Cousins starting again and Salmons or Thornton moved to the bench. Salmons would be the best move as you have guys you can fit in at the SF spot.
2. Run a real offense, with set plays.
3. Some improvement seen in player techniques: Better picks and screens set, Hickson forced to box out or be benched, quicker cuts, and dear lord, a decent fast break.
4. Transition defense a major concern. A set offense can help in this, where players know who is back and who needs to run right back.

Maybe he was but I thought he took good shots most of the time, he just missed them. His biggest problem as a point guard is that nobody moves without the ball. I have seen him get trapped and watched all 4 of his team mates just look at him. When he goes to the basket nobody does anything. They just stand there and wait for him to shoot.

He has shown no evidence(so far) of being a prolific scorer or being able to run an offense at the NBA level. He is sitting behind 2 players who have both averaged over 20 a game once out of the last 2 seasons. Of all of the problems with this team, I have seen no evidence that Jimmer is the answer to any of them. He is rookie with a nice jumpshot who could be something more, but the fact is he is playing behind two established players and has not really shown that he is any better than either of them, even when playing against the other team's second string during garbage time.
