I think it was Mark Stein that reported the blazers would waive Oden, to make room for the recent acquisitions. Anyone think we should sign him?..I mean why not? I can't imagine he'll be asking for too much.

Can't do much to help a team waving a towel in a suit and tie on the bench. Unless that happens to be your coach maybe.

Here's the deal. Oden can't play this year, and he's only signed through this year at 1.5 mil. So whether we were to pick up his salary, or not pick up his salary, we'd still have to resign him after july 1st, for whatever he's willing to sign for. So in essence, you'd just be taking the financial burden of paying whats left of his salary off Portlands hands for no reason at all. Doesn't make any sense.

No...and HELL no!!! I just had flashbacks of THIS former King with bad knees:
Worth the risk? Nope. Chronological age doesn't matter at this point. His knees are older than mine - and that's pretty blasted old. I feel sorry for him, but I don't want the Kings to toss any money or waste a roster spot. And, from his viewpoint, how heart-breaking must it be for Oden to constantly be sitting there knowing he'll most likely never again play the game he gave up everything else to pursue?

Well, never say never. But it certainly doesn't look good. I think he'll have to prove himself before anyone throws more money at him. His problem is that all of his injuries have been chronic, and those are the career ending type. I wish him well, and if its possible for a comeback, even at 75% of his original abilities, I think he could find a place in the league.
Sorry, but sometimes - especially in professional sports - you have to know when to say "never." Greg Oden never got a chance to prove himself in the NBA and I feel pretty safe in saying he never will. I also wish him well...anywhere but in Sacramento. We have enough problems., and that's without even considering the possible jinx paradigm that would be activated if we even thought seriously about bringing someone with his history of turnip incidents to town.

I assume that you realize that I wasn't endorsing that the Kings try and sign him. I stated just the opposite earlier in this thread. As for never say never, your probably right. But I still can't get Grant Hill out of my mind. Everyone was ready to stick a fork in him at one time, including me. So you never know.
