Should the kings retire c-webb's number?

#1
what do you guys think??--should the kings retire his number anytime soon?

I think they should just out of respect for putting the kings on the map.

This was talked about a few weeks ago, in fact. I believe there might even have been a poll.

My opinion is Yes, his number will be retired - once he is no longer playing - and it should be.

Personally, no. I love Chris and what he did for our franchise but I don't think they will. Even if they decide to, it won't be for a long time seeing as though they just retired Mitch awile back.

I'm confused. If they retired Mitch Richmond's number, why wouldn't they retire Webber's?

^i know right...lol

Chris WILL have his number retired (rightfully and deservedly so) but once he's retires from the NBA...that'll be a great night

Just my opinion. The thread asked the question, I answered.

Personally I wish we were having the same discussion, but for #16 not #4.

???? You wish we were discussing the retirement of Peja's number? Here's a little tip. The retirement of one players number is not contingent on any other players. CWebb's number will and SHOULD be retired for what he did for this organization. As others have stated, once he retires, I'm sure that will happen, just like the Rock's.
The time may come in Peja's career, when it is winding down, that we indeed do have this same discussion. Until then, would it be too much to ask to leave the Peja VS. Webber BS out of it?

Why? At this point, arguing whether or not Peja Stojakovic should have his number retired with the Kings would be purely based on how you feel about Peja. If you're saying you don't think Webber is worthy of having his number retired, I cannot begin to imagine how you could justify Peja having his retired...

And here it comes...

You don't have a clue...

I'm going to become VF21 MODERATOR for a moment.

This thread is NOT going to be derailed into an argument about Peja-Webber of whether or not Peja's number should, at some point, be retired.

This thread is about Webber and his jersey.

Thank you.

Well actually no, I don't think Peja should have his number retired. I wasn't in fact comparing his impact to Webber's or anything of that nature. In the unlikely event Peja finishes his career in Sac he possibly will have his number retired, but the point is that by saying what I said, I wish we didn't have to talk about retiring his number because he'd still be here.

I agree...once Webb retires, he'll get his jersey retire. Like VF said, if Mitch Richmond can, so can Webb. I really hope to see Webb's number hanging in ARCO one day! :)

My apologies then. I thought you were saying Chris shouldn't have his number retired, but Peja should (or something to that effect) We would have retired his number had he retired a King, as I really thought he would, and I think he should be accorded the same respect for everything he helped this franchise do.

As several have already said here, it's NO BRAINER.

If you had to point to one person that was responsible for our Phoenix (the bird, not the sun...OK, bad analogy) rising from the ashes, it was Chris. Hands down. No argument, except from those that have some personal axe to grind.

I also wouldn't use Richmond's jersey retrirement as some sort of notch on the wall that has to be equaled or exceeded. Two different players that brought uniquely great things to our franchise.

#4 will hang from the Arco rafters within one year after Chris hangs 'em up.

of course his number should be retired. he brought us from a laughingstock to the brink of the nba finals. if mitch can get his # retired for carrying a bad team for a number of years, then webb should get the same treatment for doing the same thing on a championship caliber team. I'm not knocking Mitch, just stating that Webb should get his number retired and there shouldn't even be a discussion about it. As soon as he retires, #4 will be hanging from the rafters (hopefully in a new arena :) )

Yes, they should.
I hope they're pretty generous with the number retiring for "the golden age" - Webber, Vlade, Peja, Bibby. Although it might suck to be a kings player 10 years from now and have to wear 82 cause all the good numbers are taken.

Webb will be automatic. I can only assume that Vlade is nearly so, even though its not a statistical thing with him. Suspect that that's it at the moment, and any others will depend on who stays and for how long. Doug played his heart out, but was only here for 4 years. Mike hasn't been here long enough yet, but could see it one day. Peja is a borderline case right now if he leaves this summer. Really no higher than the #3 most likely of the guys from the golden era, and you know they can't retire EVERYBODY's numbers, or they really would run out of numbers (they will eventaulyl anyway -- wonder what happens then? #173?).

im on the fence but lean towards retiring #4.

the arguements against it would be not enough years on the kings (semi-legit), hurt to much (pretty legit), and too much off the court stuff (not very legit).

arguements for are obvious, he was the mvp of the best 4 or 5 seasons in Sacramento Kings history

No argument here. Honestly, I think only Webber is an "automatic" in terms of getting his jersey retired. Vlade was great, but players have to do something pretty special over a long period of time to get their number retired. Vlade did a lot, but enough to get his jersey retired? Don't get me wrong, I will be first in line to applaud him if the Kings do retire his jersey, but I just don't know if we can retire every players jersey from the renaissance era of the Kings.

CWebb was the Sacramento Kings. It's a no brainer. I'd be willing to bet any amount of money that his number gets retired.

hah...on that thought, kperica (not to get off topic), why not DC? :p

anyways, of COURSE C-Webb should get his number retired. He brought this team to the forefront of the NBA, as has been said. He helped the team on his way in as well as on his way out. If Richmond could get the honor for being the great player he was without even bringing the Kings to contention, why shouldn't Webber get the same honor when he both was a great player for this francise and made them a power-house. Speaking of power-houses, lets make Arco a power-house tonight with a powerful cheer for Chris tonight when he is introduced.....I wish I could be there

One of the few (if not only) FA who actually wanted to play here. With Webber - deserves most of the credit for getting Kings to the "top." Hard to put his contributions on and off the court. Best passer Kings have had in their younger history.
