Should Kevin Martin start?

Should Kevin Martin start?

When Bonzi is back (which will be soon)? No, for a few obvious reasons. If Bonzi (god forbid) goes out again, yes, or if he gets traded yes, of course.

When Bonzi is back, Rick won't have Bonzi coming off the bench.

Nah, rebounding, the toughness, the ocbination with Ron Artest, K Mart is playing REALLLY good right now, but Bonzi is great as well in otehr dimensons.

Nope. Bonzi playing like he was is still a much better all-around player. Especially with that rebounding.

If Kevin continues to score and play efficiently, it'll be great to have him come off the bench.

I voted that Kevin should start. I know...SHOCKER...

Kevin as a starter has been running at a 14.1 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg clip, AND he's shooting 53% FG, 48% 3FG, and 88% from the charity stripe. Kevin gets 1.6 turnovers each game.

Bonzi gives us 14.6 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.8 spg, BUT he's shooting 46% FG, 20% 3FG, and only 64% from the line. Bonzi also is "giving" us 2.7 turnovers each outing.

Bonzi indeed gives us more rebounding punch to the tune of about 2-1/2 more per game than Kevin, although Kevin has had a couple of 10 rebound performances as a starter. They score about the same now, but it takes Kevin many less attempts to do it. Kevin is money at the line, while Bonzi is a crap shoot. Bonzi won one game for us at the end with a trey, but he is absolutely NO threat from beyond the arc on most nights.

The two players are really close when you look at all the stats, and Bonzi has an edge on the "intangibles", but for my money, I'd go with Kevin because of his much higher scoring productivity.

In the end, though, it doesn't matter who starts, but rather who gets the minutes. Rick will have to experiment each and every game and find the best combo by the second half to run with, based on how they're playing that game.

What is safe to say is that Kevin, Bonzi, Artest, and Cisco all need to be getting significant minutes at the 2-3 slots.

If Bonzi stays (which I think he does), I'd say with Rick's talk with Bonzi before the season, the minutes situation in Memphis, and the Bonzi/Artest combo - Bonzi will be the starter.

If he gets traded, it'd be for something quality/needed in return, indeed. I'd definitely miss him though.

Pretty much a moot Poll anyway. Bonzi isn't going to play until after the All-Star break and in Adelman's world players never lose their starting spots because of injury. I just thought it was interesting.
Now, where things might happen is over the summer (looking like before the trade dead-line is out of the question given Bonzi's injury) IMO, we are still needing help on the front-line. Bonzi's rebounding is great, but really the bulk of those boards should be going to our bigs, if we had any bigs who were great rebounders anyway. Having your 2 guard be your leading rebounder puts a strain on your transition defense, especially if the other guard on the floor is Bibby and he is the one back trying to stop ball.
I like Bonzi's toughness and the way he plays the game, but to get something, we are going to have to give up something and he just might be the best bet (S and T)

bonzi should come off the bench after his injury and when he works on his shot and free throws and gets back into game shape then he can start..

That'd be okay for 3-4 games, but I doubt it happens.

Over Bonzi? No. That would be asking for cancer/disaster.

Instead of Bonzi? As in move him? Closer call, but I think still no for the moment. But if Bonzi can bring us back frontcourt help...its something that now can be considered where two months ago we would effectively have been without an OG.

I voted for Kevin because Bonzi will be tentative for the remainder of the season due to his serious injury. If Bonzi were 100%, I would start him, but he is not. Start Kevin.

if kevin starts, bonzi needs to be traded. And since I think Kevin should start, it follows that I think we should ship bonzi for a big.

If Bonzi comes back healthy, then you have to start him. However, I am absolutely ready for a big trade, to include Bonzi if necessary, to get a big to clog the lane. Kevin is showing us that he is capable of being the starting 2 guard. That makes Bonzi expendable if he can be used as a key piece in a trade.

k-mart is really settling into his role with the kings. he's starting to build some consistency, and i like that, but i still gotta give the nod to bonzi as the starter. if kevin can continue to translate his performance from starter to sixth man, then he'll be fine. he's playing well, and is an asset right now. the only scenario in which i would want kevin starting over bonzi would be in the event of a bonzi trade. when bonzi comes back (and is 100% healthy), we'll be deep at the SG again. bonzi had an awful game upon his return, and restrained his groin on top of that. but that isn't enough to condemn him. he'll start when he returns, but hopefully adelman will take it easy on him, and give him limited minutes so kevin can further prove his consistency on the court.

Agreed.

We won't be benching Bonzi if he's staying. That's a given by the talk with Rick pre-season, and the minutes situation previously with Memphis.

Bonzi was bad offensively his first game back (vs. Denver), but everything else was good. But you expect that with anyone who was out for a bit. At Utah he wasn't much of a factor other than a few times in the first half, and was bad.

Start Bonzi, but give Kevin big minutes off the bench.

If we could get our starters averaging under 36 minutes a game and still win our games we'd have a lot fewer injuries and a lot more gas during the playoffs.

A win with the bench players getting a total of 60 minutes or more is a very good thing.

When Bonzi is back and 100% healthy and ready - the spot should be his for the remainder of the year.

He's done nothing to lose the spot. I'm glad Martin is playing well ... and hope he can do so from the bench. Next year will be Martin's year.

I read that Bonzi says he can play now. He is just going to take it slow as to not injure himself further. 1 week is what I heard.

Kevin isn't going to start over Bonzi. Kevin can finally bring us some bench scoring! He and Reef will make our bench look a whole lot better for sure.

Would Bonzi be happy if Kevin starts over him, provided that he's healthy? Then the bomb goes off, the team chemistry would be at stake.

The options on this poll are too limited and therefore seems pointless to vote. Its not as simple as Kevin over Bonzi. Is Bonzi healthy in this poll? Is Bonzi being traded and thats why Kevin starts? Is Kevin being traded? To many variables to answer this yes or no.
