Shaun Livingston just destroyed his knee(like it dislocated and everything)

OMG.......I have no idea why I watched that. It was horrible. Best wishes to Shaun.:(

Horrible stuff, a similar thing happened with my newphew last week but it was his arm, i saw it happen first hand and his arm was hanging down like rubber, he fell off a swing, scary.

Ive seen stuff like this happen in Wrestling and Football, but never Basketball, i hope he will be able to return eventually.

I can't/won't watch the video but I remember seeing Willis MaGahee with what they thought might be a career-ending injury.

I hope it's not as bad as it apparently looked. I'm watching SportsCenter and haven't heard anything about it yet...

They called it dislocation of the entire knee. They will do further evaluation. I know one thing......a person's knee is not supposed to be able to do that. *shudder*

I think they might be kind of hesitant on showing it right now, on the clips site it just says he dislocated it, they dont mention how serious or show anything about it.

EDIT

Nevermind that, now they have info and media of it up.

They just showed it on ESPN. It looks very similar to Willis MaGahee's injury.

Shudder is right...

I watched that game, and saw it live: it was harsh.

Clippers played through it and won a tough game, though; Gerald had a great night, too: started at PF for Okafor, and generally outplayed Brand to the tune of 20/12/3/1 + got pencil-whipped out of a great block on Mobley in the third quarter.

Well, i really hope he will be able to come back, probably will, but we all know he wont be the same, which just plain sucks, i hate seeing people shot down before their prime, i wish him the best.

That was horrible to watch. :( I really hope it hasn't ended this young man's career. That gave me a bad case of the willies. Yikes!

It looked bad but he should be all right. I haven't heard of too many dislocations being career ending. I think Livingston did the same thing to his right knee last year or awhile back from what I remember.

Yea, according to ESPN.com, Livingston dislocated his right knee in his rookie season and ended up missing 39 games. Certainly its a serious injury but far from career threatening.

As an aside, the initial x-rays performed came out negative although the trainer did have to pop the knee back to alleviate the pain of a dislocation.

Well since he's already had this type of injury before and came back successfully from it, its not too much a a stretch to say he might do so again. But seriously, what is up with athletes getting dislocations recently (i.e. Dwyane Wade)?

Gaaa! I haven't seen the likes of that since Tim Krumrie. *repulse*

You're watchin a Clipper Bobcat game? There's a story behind that.

he likes the Bobcats

now if he watched a random Lakers game - I would notify authorities because it would mean that he was either abducted, blackmailed or on drugs

Under the supervision of team physician Dr. Tony Daly, Clippers guard Shaun Livingston underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exam on Tuesday morning at Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Inglewood. The MRI revealed that Livingston suffered tears to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), medial collateral ligament (MCL) and lateral meniscus. Livingston also suffered a patella dislocation, in addition to the previously diagnosed tibia/femoral dislocation.

I can not imagine what that had to feel like.

So in other words he basically tore apart every single structure in the knee. All that was holding it on was flesh at that point? Damn lucky he didn't just tear the arteries as well and end up having to get it amputated.

Quite remarkable, actually.

And, oh yeah, ick.

That certainly doesn't sound good. As G3 said, "ick."

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me, although in my case, the knee cap popped back in but in this case you actually don't want to it to pop back in because in many cases (as in mine) it destroys stuff on the way back in. His was a lot more violent though so that's why he had all the ligament tears. It'll be several months before he can even walk onto the court again. I instead had some cartilage damage because the knee cap literally ripped off some on the way back in.

Either way good luck to Shaun... It's not fun at all

That happened to a UC Davis football player in 1999 (my freshman year). Their running back, Sam Paneno, dislocated his knee during a game and it disrupted blood flow to his lower leg. After a few surgeries he had to have his leg amputated. Fortunately he handled the set back really well, finished his degree at UCD, and began giving inspirational speeches to physically challenged and disabled athletes. You can find more about him in this article (it's a bit dated, from 2004) http://media.www.californiaaggie.co....Paneno.Receives.Award.From.Usc-1317129.shtml

Also, to clear up some confusion, there's a difference between a patellar (kneecap) dislocation and a knee dislocation. supamari0's description sounds like a patellar dislocation, which, while nothing to scoff at, isn't as serious as a knee dislocation. Edit: For reference, Livingston's injury in 2004 was a patellar dislocation. He didn't tear any tendons and "only" missed 39 games. This most recent injury was a knee dislocation, and some people are estimating that he might miss all of *next* year.

Interesting topic for my first post on the board :o
