Scot back in Sac?

The ship sailed. People need to get over these past Kings players. No, we don't need him back... at some point, you have to just move on and that's what the Kings are doing. The LAST thing they would want to do is reverse that and acquire another aging veteran whose skills have decreased appreciably and obviously since his days here.

But we are looking for a backup center that rebounds, blocks shots, sets picks, and does not need a large piece of the shot pie.

Yes, we are which is exactly why we don't want or need Scot. He's not the same player as he was back in the day. He's gotten slower and older and his peak is well behind him. I simply do not see the need to bring him back ... it certainly wouldn't address the future needs of the team.

It is my firm belief that too many times people want to recapture old feelings. Scot was great, it was fun having him on the team, and as Vlade's backup he was one of the best. But those days are over. He is NOT a viable option for a team that needs an active backup center and - God forbid - if something happened to Brad, there is NO way Scot could step in and fill the role. While that might not be a main consideration on a lot of teams, on the Kings you have to think about it.

Scot was good, but he's gone and it wouldn't help to bring him back.

Maybe he can eat his piece of that "shot pie" with the fork sticking out of his back.
 
pollard knows our game. he knows his role. VF21; he's still bigger and meaner than any other backup center we have. the fact that he's a former king has NOTHING to do with his mentality or his heart. doug is a former king, but he can still kick butt on the defensive end. some players just deserve that respect.
 
The old Scot would have fit our current needs very well (not surprisingly), the "old" Scot of today? Wouldn't mind seeing him back -- he's nto s done as some make it seem. But neither is he the impact bencher he once was. Would likely just be a big body to stash on the bench this time around.

It's not about respect. It's about being practical and realistic. Scot may be "bigger and meaner than any other backup center we have," but that doesn't make him the right person for the job.

If we're gonna bring him back just to stick him on the bench, then I'd rather see us at least pick someone a little younger to occupy the pine.

Sorry, Brick, but I think he's pretty much done. I spend time at PacersDigest and although Scot has won over the fans to a certain extent they don't expect to see much of him. He simply isn't the player he was before the major back problems.

But I really don't even know why I'm arguing. I don't see Scot Pollard as being anywhere near the top of the list of players Petrie would even consider bringing back...

Edit: One more thing, tyrant? You're totally off-base, at least so far, with your comment about Doug. He hasn't done squat since leaving the Kings. In fact, in case you've forgotten, he played very little at Orlando and then had surgery to remove bone spurs. He hasn't done anything in a real game situation since then. Yes, I hope he'll still be able to "kick butt" on the defensive end, but there's no proof to that whatsoever to this point.

Certainly. Then - and only then - will we know one way or the other whether he can still be effective on defense.
 
Scot is 30!!! People here are speaking of him as being 40 or something!

Scot has not played in the last couple years much. That is it! TWO years since he has left us. It's not like he is on his last leg people! I feel he would be a great BACKUP for Miller. Don't you think he would be fine playing 15 minutes a game or has his 30 year old body just gave up on him all together? Should we be talking about sending him to a nursing home? :(

Most of our starters are either 30 or close to it! Should we rebuild? Look, I know Scot has had a couple injury problems in the last coule years, but again, he knows the system, and can give us a solid 15 a game EASY. Look what he did last year when he played 25-30 min a game!!!

His stats were.....

7.5ppg 6.6rpg 0.8bpg That's the kind of Scot that played for us isnt it in 2001-2002?
 
Pollard has had chronic back problems that genrally don't improve with age. However, I would swap Williamson for him and sign Barnes to backup SF.
 
None of our starters are 30 years old. Close to it yeah, 1-3 years away. That doesn't mean they'll all drop down to another level or two though, in general.

There are a handful of better centers out there who could be had than Pollard. Who I'd take if we couldn't get any of the accessible, or our other choice was Booth.

Scot has serious back problems......the type that heal, but then always return. Basketball is a grueling sport. I love Scot, but his body can no longer take the rigors of the sport. I cannot see spending money on him when we know that he will be out much of the time. And, that has nothing to do with the fact that he is 30 yrs of age. You could be 15 and have back problems that would prevent you from playing competitive basketball.
 
I just don't see how in 2 years Pollard went from BEST backup center (which could start on most teams) to not even good enough to backup.

You think 15 minutes a night would work?
 
Scot still looks like he can play. I saw him play quite a bit last season and he still looked pretty much the same as ever. His back kept him out of a lot of games though. Plus, there is no way he would find minutes ahead of Skinner.
 
Scot can still ball, but with his back, you really can't pencil him in as anything more than a third string center who gets playing time against the really big centers of the league.

I think Bird would give him up in a second if he didn't have to take salary back in return. I, personally, would rather we keep Scot for when we play the Heat, though.
 
give me pollard for williamson in a straight deal and i would love to have scot back... he is an ending contract, so he will save the kings 6.5 mil next year of corliss contract... heck throw in a 2nd round pick too...

It'd be nice to hear from the Pacers fans that hang around here about this. I know a diehard one at work who said that, while he did OK at times this past season, he was more of a last option big man barring injuries to the other big men. Essentially replacing Miller with Pollard still makes steam come out of his head if he starts talking about it.

Skillwise, he's what the team needs. But I'd rather have a more healthy expendable like Corliss instead of wondering how often Scot's back will flare up during the season.
 
errrrr.....NO, bad back, older, and considering there are better guys out there available....no way jose. Why don't we just trade the entire bench for Pollard, Barry, Mateen, and bring back Fundy while were at it.

Scot can still play, but for the lack of a better way to express it, what he's lost, aside form his health, is that spark to his play. Now he's kind of just another big body. But that inspiring energetic, all out hustle he once had just isn't there anymore. Not an impact guy anymore. At his peak he absolutely would have, or at least should have, gotten minutes ahead of Skinner. Now I have my doubts.

Exactly.

This is a basketball team, so I don't see any reason why this would even be a question. If the goal was to put together a team of funny and friendly personalities, or a team of guys we've already had once, then he'd be in the running.
 
I loved it when Pollard was a King. Maybe even more for his personality than his skills, although I appreciated them as well. He was a great team player and I would love to see him back . . . as an announcer, analyst, commentator, etc - not as a player. I feel that way about most players that are no longer on the team. They would be great to have back in some capacity. Afterall, we do grow to love their being part of the team while here. However, there are none that I would like to have back as players. Well, maybe one or two as players, but overall- once they are gone it is best to look forward, not back. Those days are gone -BRING ON THE NEW KINGS!!
 
Lookin' at the roster, as it stands right now ..... Corliss is the oldest player at 32 years young. Scot is 30 ..... I would've thought Scot was older cause he's banged-up more, has had injuries keep him out ... he's not at young as his age indicates ... the NBA has taken its' toll on Scotty-boy. Corliss can still move, run and jump ... even at 32 !!!

I gotta agree with the consensus that the King's are going young, athletic and run-run-run ... Scot just doesn't fit the new mold.
Just some thoughts ....
