[News] Schröder/Russ backcourt for Monk trade? Uberthread

Not fond of either players, but what other options are available? Let's see:
  • Re-sign Fultz. Go with Carter/Monk/Fultz as PG. I personally would go with this. I just hope Domas and Keegan are on board with this.
  • Sign Chris Paul. Have him mentor Carter: Unlikely. He is more likely to pick a contender.
  • Sign someone younger/trade for some PG: Who?
  • Tank: If we are doing this, then we need to trade away Domas, Monk, DDR, Val, and Lavine, and hope Keegan is patient for the next 3 years.
Unless we are going for a full on rebuild by trading away all vets, we need a proper PG. I would prefer Chris Paul over both these guys, or maybe even Fultz. He didn't show much last year, but hopefully, with extended time, he can rediscover some of his old form. Hopefully, Carter shows he can run a team while also playing stellar defense, or Keon can develop there a bit, or Monk embraces the PG position as a starter.

Certainly, no point in playing vets while not having someone who can run the system.

Seems like the Twitter responses have more sense than guys covering the team why would you trade monk to fit old ass Derozan

Monk doesn’t fit Perry’s vision but Schroeder does haha

I think Perry will try to sell win now pieces (Monk, Levine, DDR) for picks. If he can get 5 picks in the next 3 drafts with those 3 guys i think he pulls the trigger. If he can move Sabonis and get another 2-3 picks for him, all the better. Runs Shroeder/Westbrick, Keon/Carter, Keegan/Nique, potato chips, Valanciunas for the bottom spot in the NBA and a top 3 pick.

What's really pissing me off is literally all of these Sac media people would be frying Monte right now if he ran this same exact playbook.

If Monk doesn't have the right market DONT TRADE HIM. Don't get purposefully worse just to "shake up the roster"

How does keeping monk even hurt us star Carter than does that idiot perry know he’s a pg

Hopefully!

There's no way he can build a team that can compete with the top dogs of the West, maybe the middling pretenders.

I'm sick of getting lapped on rebuilding by the Houstons, OKCs, San Antonios, etc of the West.

I mean, even Dallas just lapped us with a rebuild but that was with a little help from Uncle Silver

Poor leaders typically show activity to announce that they are in charge. Change for the sake of change is stupid.

Monk would have greater demand at the trade deadline, when teams are desperate. Selling low on our assets is a crime, especially when you are a small market team.

You can’t force other teams to trade for your guys which is sorta what people forget when they suggest trading to start a rebuild/refresh the team.

And all the Sacramento shills keep talking about "We'Re cHaNgInG tHe cUlTuRe"... but Monk was one of the few guys here to actually show that on the floor. Dude played all out, all the time, even to his own detriment sometimes.

He's not good on defense... but neither are the 2 guys we're bringing him to replace him. So that excuse doesn't hold up either.

But these two guys also play point guard while Malik was in his exit interview last season like “yeah we need to find a point guard this summer because I don’t like playing that position”

yeah, but neither guys requires you to trade Malik.

Basically this says Dennis+#financialflexibilitybaby are being traded for Monk+losing Keon's RFA rights. Seems VERY bad

Also Malik’s deal, which may have been team friendly under the old way the league operated, might not be too team friendly now in a league where ever team is desperately trying to avoid aprons and thus building their rosters with like one max guy and twelve dudes on rookie scale deals.

Trading a fan favorite who also WANTS to be in Sac? GM SUICIDE.

Yeah this is gross. You don't trade one of your better players just for the sake of trading him. This trade would make the team older, worse and less entertaining. Not to mention it would pee off the players on the roster since Monk is obviously a favorite of his teammates. Peak KANGZ right here if a Schroder swap is all we get for trading Monk.

Once Orlando traded for Bane it started to be hard to find defensive teams (to cover for Monk) that needed scoring.

Yeah, but he doesn't have a market! (supposedly)

You know what they always say buy high, sell low. That's how you profit

The thing is I’m not really sure the Kings bought high so much as they paid a premium price on a role that was getting relegated to the discount outlet around the league just as soon as Malik hit the market.

Are we at the point where we don't think Sabonis has any value? I'd highly disagree with that. I don't think his value is what we want it to be, but I absolutely think a team like Charlotte pieces together contracts + a few picks for him. At that point you can absolutely wait a year, cut demar, wait another year and be done with LaVine. Rebuilding doesn't always mean you have to sell multiple pieces. We already got 2 picks for Fox, we can get 2 for Sabonis, we have all of our own picks.
