Sasha Watch 2022-2023

Every negotiation is different. I don’t doubt that the player and agent are asking for more money than it would take for him to play with the Kings. And if you pay him more money - you are more likely to be able to get a team option on the last year of the contract.

Bjelica is a good example of how a crap contract means that the team isn’t serious about your future. Minnesota just stuck him in a corner.

Cattles and Romney, I think that’s the hosts names we’re saying Sasha wants to clear$4-6 mill per year meaning his contract needed to be in the $10-11 per year range.

Is this because of taxes or some payment or? Anyhow, the last set of numbers is borderline too much unless the team is getting the option year 2 or 3. Seems a lot for a guy who hasn’t played a minute in the NBA
oof. 10-11 is a little rich

Well, Luka's rookie deal was 4/$32M (so not far from an MLE deal now, and pretty close to an MLE deal then), and of course the CBA determines the value of that contract, it's not a negotiated free agent deal.
Luka was a top pick and considered to be a generational talent at 19. It's all relative. Sasha's situation is far closer to a typical 27-28 yo Euro star than a Luka.

Not really, Bjelica played 17-18 mpg for the Twolves. Sasha and his people have to realize that the Kings represent a great opportunity. What better team for him to showcase and potentially get a huge NEXT contract? IMO he's probably worth a bit more than BAE but the Kings are the ones taking the risk here. And if Sasha didn't want to be subject to the rules of the draft, don't play the game. He's very lucky IMO that he found his way to a team that fits his game better than any other to be honest. Monte needs to use that to his advantage in any negotiations.

Hypothetical here but would people prefer Sasha or Naz? I don’t know what his market is but if you could get him for the MLE and bring back Barnes you could have more flexibility in the starting lineup depending on the opponent.

How crap was it though, he wasn't talking about the money. As is, Bjelica stuck in the league and by far exceeded the odds. Bjelica got plenty chance with the Kings, who was being unrealistic there? If the Wolves offered the same minutes and $$$ now I'd bet Bjelica would jump at the chance. I expect and hope that Sasha can play starters level minutes and I'm sure he does as well, but expecting the red carpet rolled out for him would be unusual if history is any measure. Sasha shouldn't sign a long term deal at minimum money for sure. Sign short and expect a big bump after. If he lives up to his potential he could be sitting pretty to the tune of something waay beyond average NBA money easily. We've already heard rumblings that Sasha was more concerned with opportunity, like I said, go find another team with a Domas there to help him succeed. If Sasha is a gambling man, this is it. Mega bucks potential is in Sac.

Wow, that's an interesting question. Honestly, Sasha. I do think Naz could fit with the Kings but we pretty much have no questions that Sasha would. At least in theory. Sashas game is perfectly suited to the Kings system.

What happened that led to him being carried off? No contact injury or something like landing on somebody’s foot and twisting his ankle?

who knows? Maybe he has LeCramps

Saw the highlight, didn't look like much. His foot got caught underneath him as he was falling backwards. Hopefully it's nothing serious, certainly didn't look like it visually.

This seems like a not-so-bad case scenario. The euro newspapers may be a bit optimistic in hoping he might return for the series, but this would seem to be a thing that could be cleared up by October, if he wants to sign one of those American contracts.

You can't tell he even suffered a recent injury...no padding, wrap or supportive sleeve on the injured knee at least during the introductions. Will be curious to see how he plays today. Thanks for the link!

Hopefully, there is no long term issue of him playing through injury/being worn down from playing in Europe, like Bogdan always did during the summer.
Not sure what his commitment level is but Sasha is Bulgarian who qualify irregularly for the finals of the major tournaments while Serbia is a regular medal contender in EuroBasket and qualifies for the finals of the bigger tournaments and the Olympics. So guessing even if he did continue to play for his national team he wouldn't have quite as much excess mileage as Bogi did.
