SAR and retirement?

Entity

Hall of Famer
I read the article in the Bee last week speaking on the Kings future and they mentioned SAR and retirement. They didn't say he would retire but it was like they assumed he would. Just thinking if he was to get injured again this season during camp he may indeed retire therefore freeing us of his contract and insurance would pick it up.

I don’t think he would retire even if he’d get injured again. He’d probably try to rehab it again and see if he can come back. Plus that money is worth the wait. But it would be really nice if he could step down if he can’t do it anymore.

He won't give up his money, but he won't rehab just for the hell of it either.

He still gets his money if he retires it just is paid for by insurance so it comes off our cap.

And please get rid of that avatar. That was 1 of the worst nights of my life seeing that.

Yea, I wasn't 100% sure about that; I just knew whatever route he takes it won't be one where he gives up his money.

I dunno how correct that is if I read it right because I know POrtland got relief for DMiles injury retirement.
Yes, that's mentioned in the rule stated:

There is one exception whereby a player can continue to receive his salary, but the salary is not included in the team's team salary. This is when a player is forced to retire for medical reasons and a league-appointed physician confirms that he is medically unfit to continue playing. There is a waiting period of one year following the injury or illness before a team can apply for this salary cap relief.

The Trail Blazers waited, and went through the process of having a league-appointed physician confirm that Miles had suffered a career-ending injury. The Kings would have to do the same, in order to have the same salary relief for SAR. I remember when James Worthy retired from the Lakers; although his career was shortened by injury, the Lakers did not go through this process, and Worthy's salary did count toward the team salary over the next two seasons.
