Salmons on Hoopsworld All-Breakout Team

NME

Starter
I wouldn't have thought that a guy who turns 29 early in the season fit the spirit of a breakout list, but there he is nonetheless.

Dear NBA GM's: Please read this article and then offer us a 1st round pick for this up-and-comer. Thank you.

"John Salmons: 12.5 Points, 4.3 Rebounds, 31 Minutes
Salmons blew out of the gates last year, averaging 20.7 points per game in the first 7 games of the season. Call this the "Pre-Ron-Ron" phase. In Ron Artest's first game back, Salmons got four shots and the breakout season skidded to a halt...."

Ah, Hoopsworld. Such a quality publication.

Nonetheless, I will be using John as one of my sleeper picks in fantasy ball this season. As long as the poor dear is allowed to start I think he should be able to average 15+ on reasonable efficiency.

I think if he starts, you've got a winner there. I think he'll average more than 15 a game.

Likewise, he'll be a pick of mine as well. I'm thinking 14-16 ppg this season for Salmons, taking his inconsistency into account. I hope the guy can bring it now that he's not coming off the bench...he really did look great in the stints mentioned by Hoopsworld.

However, I distinctly remember a similar scenario occur with Kenny Thomas, where he wanted the starting spot and sucked off the bench - only to finally get the starting-4-spot and continuing to suck, badly. Hopefully this doesn't happen with Salmons...

I wouldnt put him and Thomas in the same sentence. That's the last thing we need. LOL

Has it actually been confirmed that John is starting?? Or is it just speculation? He obviously seems like the guy, but Cisco could just as easily take the spot as well (he also put up great numbers when he was starting), and don't forget Greene, who I would like to see starting occasionally to give him some experience

Come on, folks! Nobody is a confirmed starter at this point. Training camp hasn't even started. I know it is TDOS, but let's bring some reason to these discussions.

I think Hoopsworld may have gotten one right for a change with our Salmons. Same for Thornton but not so sure about the other 3. I have always thought, based on his two starting stints last year, that Salmons could be a dynamite SF once Salmons gets his rebs up a bit more. John has the tools and is now the best defender on the team. So lets see how well he holds up that opportunity by the time December rolls around.

Unless Salmons is ready for 82 games, i dont see him doing more for the team than he did for the team last year. If i was being critical of John I would say he is easy to push around, and his three pointer is weak along with his body. On the bright side, his defense is above average, and his slashing and dribbling ability is very servicable. I doubt he turns any heads this season, because he hasn't done it yet. If he shows up to camp looking yoked out, I would be very inclined to change my opinion. Weight is very important to me.

LOL 12 pts and 4 rpg in 31 mins is not a break through performace I must say... If he is such a good player that he(and some people on this board) think that he is, he should average that in 20mins...

I totally could not agree more! I would love to see how John does through 82 games.... Also, if he continues to jack up stupid 3 point shots and not drive to the basket ( which in my view is John greatest asset) then I dont think he should start... I would much rather see francisco start... We will see
