It's been a while since I've posted any trade threads in the personnel forum, and I'm liking this team so much it might behoove them to stay pat until their whole team is healthy, but I just can't help myself.
I was looking at the Philadelphia situation and wondering where a good fit for Elton Brand would be. The 76ers are trying to be a run and gun uptempo/athletic team and he's more of a plodding low post scorer at the moment for them. I still feel that Brand has a ton of talent, and salary aside there would be several teams very interested in him. Could the Kings get in on that deal as part of a three team trade?

Why The Kings Do This: This trade would give the Kings a solid 4 big rotation, 3 of which are young and play defense, and all of which rebound well and score. While they'd take on the salary of Troy Murphy through 2010/2011, they would also get the rookie contract of Hibbert and shave off 2 years of Nocioni's contract. + Shot blocking, + rebounding, + depth at the PF and C positions, and opens up time at the SF spot for Donte, Omri, and Francisco when he returns from injury.
Why The Kings Don't Do This: Perhaps they could get something better with Kenny Thomas's expiring contract given the arctic economic climate (Pau Gasol 2.0
). Andres is also playing really well and bringing the team a swagger and toughness that might be hard to maintain if he is traded.
Why The 76ers Do This: They are falling over themselves to unload Brand's albatross contract. He isn't fitting the playing style of the team, and his numbers have declined the past few seasons. They would be getting financial flexibility with KT, as well as another scrappy defensive player to pair with Iverson (Nocioni is only averaging 2 rebound less than Brand currently
). It also helps that Nocioni's contract actually goes down each year, salary relief would be Philadelphia's first priority here.
Why the 76ers Don't Do This: Perhaps they think they can get more for a 30 year old ex all-star undersized power forward and hope to get youth, draft picks, and/or more athletic than Nocioni and K9.
Why the Pacers Do This: The Pacers have a solid, deep team, but they really lack another star to help out Danny Granger. They have plenty of depth up front to give up a couple pieces, and a slow tempo that Brand would excell at during this stage of his career (see Jermaine O'Neal...). Perhaps Brand can teach some of his tricks to Indiana's young bigs too
.
Why the Pacers Don't Do This: Roy Hibbert looks to be a keeper, and having a 7'2" young, skilled center is a commodity rarely wasted in the NBA. They might think the asking price is too high, which is why they'd want to throw in Troy Murphy's large deal to decrease the salary hit.
