Sac - Cleveland

So I saw on the RealGM forums that some cleveland fans were willing to shop Snow and Wally's contract. They were asking for a SG, but in light of Delonte West's injury and Ben Wallace being injury/lazy prone... I figure this could help Cleveland cement their push for the Finals and we net expirings and flexible space

Why for me? I personally like Salmons, but I know 50% of you guys don't. They get a legit SG/SF that can defend pretty well in Salmons, and he's a scoring option for them, Beno can play backup PG for them when needed, and Brad gives them some flexible options and is a shooter with great passing skills.

Sac, will be weak at PG but I think Cisco, BB, and Bjax can all rotate around for now... This allows us to put Spence into the position we want, starting Center, JT can continue to to start at PF, and we can bring Donte back.... Thoughts?

First of all, Cleveland has like 3 PGs already: Mo Will, West, and Gibson. Even though West is injuried, I'm pretty sure they don't want a PG who can't shoot 3, and has huge contract. I'm not sure if Cleveland want this trade.

Second of all, Why would kings do that for just salary cap? We want salary relief AND younggins. If they add Hickson and second rounder, I would call it. But just for Wally and Snow? NO.

uhh.... if you can dump all those garbage contracts and get cap space. you do it. there are 3 things we could use (not in any particular order) cap space, draft picks and young players. cap space fills a void. we would clear out a bunch of space to develop our young players. win, win win win win situation imo.

Read that again. I would argue that in terms of what we're giving up and what we're getting back, that deal is worse for us than the Gasol deal was for the Grizzlies - far worse when you consider that the Grizz got two young players in return.

The problem with being in full rebuilding mode is that after a while the idea that we should trade our veterans for future value becomes so deeply ingrained that we lose sight of the goal for the means. The goal, of course, is to become competitive in the future. The sooner the better, but we can't expect a flash turnaround. Rebuilding does not mean sabotaging our assets. Rebuilding means recognizing our assets and getting the best value for them.

Miller and Salmons are, however odd it may seem to some Kings fans, assets. They also happen to be our best assets we can afford to cash in. We should not trade Miller for anything less than a pick and a kid. We should not trade Salmons for anything less than a P&K either. And if it doesn't happen this year, there's always this offseason, and there's always next year's deadline.

If we're going to successfully rebuild, we need to do it patiently, and we need to do it by spending our assets wisely. Dumping Miller and Salmons is not the goal - it never has been. Dumping Miller and Salmons is the means to getting better down the road. We need to remember that before getting behind trade ideas that throw away our assets for (nearly) nothing.

True enough, like I said it was just spawned off another thread I saw and I just wanted to throw it out there (I'd rather keep Salmons personally)
