RUMOR: Kidd headed to Mavs

The Nets trade All-Star point guard Jason Kidd and Malik Allen to the Mavericks for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, DeSagana Diop, two first-round picks and cash, sources tell Tony Mejia of CBSSports.com.

Wow... The Mavs got absolutely killed on this deal. Horrible horrible deal...

Jason Kidd trade to Mavs Official!

It looks as though Mark Cuban has been blowing smoke up our...with his insistance that he wouldn't take on Kidd's $20 million annual salary. For the official story check out Sportsline but here is the trade...

Mavs get Jason Kidd & Malik Allen

Nets get Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, DeSagana Diop, Mauric Ager, 2 First Round Picks, & Cash

That's quite the package although the Mavs still have Dirk, Josh Howard, Jason Terry, and now Kidd...perhaps this will cause teams to offer the Kings more for Artest and/or Bibby so they can compete

Wow. What has happened GMs this year? We need to phone up the Cavs and see if they'll do a Ron and Kenny for LeBron trade ;)

Seriously, Mavs starting team has got better, but they've lost tons of depth and two draft picks! What are they thinking?

This means the Mavericks are on their last leg. They're going for broke just like Suns. Should've kept Diop though. They're pretty soft without him inside.

Dallas is giving up a ton. 5 players(including Devin Harris) 2 draft picks and 3 million in cash???

I guess it's the win now attitude as Dirk isn't getting any younger.

Well, what is Cuban supposed to say? Yea, we are trying to make it happen that we get Jason on the team. He's a businessman, so of course, he's going to blow it off.

Of course. He can't come out and say "yeah, we really want to trade for Jason Kidd" because there goes his leverage. Of course, looking at this trade, he may not have had a whole lot to begin with...

The title has been edited to reflect the "rumor" status of the trade.

----------------------------------------------
As more teams in the West scramble to upgrade their rosters for the playoffs, this actually helps the Kings IMHO. SOMEONE is going to want the defense that Artest can bring to the table... and they might be willing to pay a fair price as we get closer to Feb. 22.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm hoping the more teams in the west get upgraded, the better the chances are for the Kings.

I would call this more than a rumor. In fact, I'd be willing to bet my life savings on it happening. It's pretty much a done deal, just needs to be announced.

I can't decide if this is going to help or hurt the Mavs. They've been such a one on one team since Nash left, and they've actually been better for it. They're going to lose the last guy on their team (Harris) who had the quickness to penetrate and move the ball, not to mention losing some serious depth on their bench, and Kidd is going to change them into more of a jump shooting team -- only other than Dirk they're not great jump shooters.

At the same time, Harris wasn't much of a savvy defender, and Kidd will help them on the perimeter.

Overall I'd say this is a net loss. I just can't see Kidd helping all that much. Nash/Finley/Dirk = Kidd/Howard/Dirk, and Nash/Finley/Dirk couldn't win anything.

PS: I also agree with VF21 that this is going to give Denver (or someone else) one more big reason to make an Artest trade.

SacKings384 - You're getting hung up on semantics. The point is it ISN'T a confirmed fact yet, so it's still a rumor. I'll change the title again if/when it's actually announced and not just leaked.

:)

I actually think the Mavs were better before the deal. Kidd has never won a thing. Before he left the Western Conference he could never get a team out of the 1st or 2nd round. The only reason he made it to the Finals with the Nets or the Nets were even in the playoffs the last few years is because he played in the East. Put the Nets in the West the last 5 years and they are a fringe playoff team at best.

.....still waiting for the Artest or Bibby traded news.....I am becoming increasingly skeptical that it will happen.

I'm with you. I don't think it will happen. Ron is coming off of the books at the end of the year most likely, and what is being offered isn't all that great. I think if Petrie can't get anything that helps the organization either with expirings or actualy talent in some fashion, no deals will be made.

Although, there is always the chance that Ron opts in, and stays. As of this morning it's being reported that now he would prefer to stay. Never know.

well all of this could end up good for the Kings. A lot of teams mortgaging their future to try and win now.

Yeah, hopefully this opens the door for an Artest trade. I hope GP doesn't get anxious and trade him for a bad deal, we should be expecting either a young prospect or a pick. Obviously the young guy would have to be unproven, otherwise there's no way they'd give him up for Ron.

I still think Pietrus and O'Bryant is the most likely deal. But it's always the likely ones that never seem to go through ;)

Offensively, I'll buy the comparison. Defensively though? Not sure.

I think they won't win it all for other reasons. They still don't have anyone to stop Duncan, Amare, Gasol, etc.

Well, I agree that Kidd is a better defender than Nash (and definitely better than Harris), but vintage Finley was a better defender than Josh Howard. I still think it comes out a wash.

I look for the Spurs to make some moves as well. Bowen is showing his age and not the defensive kung fu fighter he once was. Artest for Duncan done deal. ;)

Actually I'd say Harris is a tougher defender than Kidd is nowadays, but both of them are kinda overrated defensively I think.

That's what I was referring to...
