You ARE out in left field. ;) What position did you play? Remind me.

Centerfield! Back when I could actually run and throw. Seems like someone else's life now. Did play a little left field and even played a little third base. Didn't like third base! Not called the hot box for nothing. Here's some advice. Don't try and catch a line drive with your bare hand.

I played short stop and third base depending on the quality of team I was on. I never played in the outfield my entire life which must seem odd to most.

Nothing to lose. Like Baja says if he is in shape sign him up and let him run the court for a few minutes to see what he has got.
Nothing to lose, my left foot:

... meet straw.

I originally voted no in the poll.

Truth be told, the Kings can't afford to look sideways at talent, and the kid does have talent. Maybe it works out, we get a solid contributor for the bench for a couple of years. If it doesn't, we at least looked at improving the team and can move forward.

Listened to PDA an hour ago on 1140.....

They "talked" to White but he is NOT signed! No real evidence that they ever will sign him....

Sure we can. We have talent; what we don't have is talent that fits.

Anybody seen this? Great mini doc by Grantland, gives you a better understanding of Royce's problems:

Something just tells me if there is anywhere in the NBA that could be the right fit for Royce White, after viewing this I have to think it might be in Sacramento. I hadn't watched it before...

I have faith in Vivek and PDA and Malone. If they think White is worth a 10-day contract, I'm not gonna fuss about it. At least they're looking at players and doing something. They aren't locked into a particular course of action and they aren't taking anything for granted.

Not only do we not need a pf, we absolutely do not need a head case like Royce white. Even if he played pg, which we desperately need. And sometimes he kinda does. At least in college.

That said, I'm not too concerned about a 10 day contract, IF we do it. And white is quite a talent, or was. I don't see much downside, but it's there. While we have too many pfs, we wouldn't miss a few. Let's see what Royce has. Odds of working are pretty small, but so is the risk.

Hard to believe we'd go get the guy afraid of flying and then head on a 7 game east coast trip though, right?

Do the Kings even have a roster spot for him? With Orlando Johnson the Kings have the max of 13 players on the active roster right?

Per the new CBA a team must have minimum of 13 players on the active roster and a max of 15.

Sure is a lot of agonizing about a player we really know nothing about playing in the NBA. For the Kings FO to even give him a 10-day, they have to have some knowledge what baggage he brings and what can possibly be done to correct the problem. Heck, if he is worth it give him sleeping pills (approved by the league of course), load him on a plane and have staff guys handle him. Or as they do up in Alaska, put him in a body bag and lay him in an empty area in coach until they get to destination.

Would be the best playmaker out the squad by a large margin, shame such a talent (loved watching him play in college) has these issues but it is what it is.

Well, we all have challenges. They come in different shapes and sizes and it doesn't matter who you are or how much money you have. Somewhere down the road of life your going to run into a road block. Those connected to fear are the hardest. Especially fear that's illogical. It's much easier to deal with fear that you can see and touch, than some abstract unkown. It becomes even more difficult when your a public figure, and the general public looks upon your fear, something very real to you, as illogical nonsense. But as you say, it is what it is. Its all up to him. My question to him would be. What's the worse that can happen? And can you live or die with that result. He has to put a face on his fear, and then he can deal with it.

They may just wait untill after the last long road trip, to bring him in for a 10 day. Or just invite him to Summer league and ease into it from there

Signed 10 day contract. Assigned to the Bighorns for four games, if successful he'll get another 10 day and play for the Kings
I wish him all the best. Too bad I can't watch the Bighorns.

Some folks from Sacramento have already planned a trip to Reno this weekend to catch a game. I don't know where you are based, though.

Or instead of searching through youtube listings you can go to nba.com/dleague, find schedule of the team, you're interested in, click on boxscore, and you will see "watch" link.
Most DLeague games are really uptempo, selfish with little defense, i.e. glorified pickup game, though.

I think it is a nice move to bring in Royce White this way. If he works out in Reno he can be signed to finish the season with the Kings.

Just keep it low key and let him practice with the guys. If it works out it is good for everyone.

To me it is a nice gesture to help a young player out.

There are reports that the Kings organization rep around the league is changing and it's for the better. This move and releasing Jimmer for his benefit shows a change in attitude or culture if you like.

I've been thinking about White's anxiety disorder and what can be done about it if anything. Surely steps to resolve it or mitigate worst forms affecting him can and should be taken.

Flying on a commercial airliner is the most safe form of transportation on planet earth. You are thousands of times, even millions times more likely to be killed driving to the airport to board the aircraft than killed in plane crash. For years as a youngster I had certain fear of heights. I recall once standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon and looking down. Fear suddenly consumed me and while others edged closer to get better look I wanted to stay well back. I was around 10 years old at the time. It was only phobia (acrophobia) I ever really had. But after a few plane rides by my teen years the anxiety seemed to fade into history. Since that time I've taken hundreds of flights all over the world and a fear of heights issue or flying paranoia is now completely gone, like I never really had such "silly problem." For me, it was about growing older, maturing, learning, and slowly letting go of such fear - at least in its most debilitating form.

Not quite. On a per-mile basis, the probability of a fatality is about 50 times higher when driving than flying. If you have to drive 20 miles to the airport for a 400 mile flight, you're only about 10 times more likely to be killed on the drive to the airport than on the flight. Saying "thousands" or "millions" is to overstate the case by 2-5 orders of magnitude.

I said commercial airliner or in this case charter flight or team aircraft. Not general aviation smaller planes which is more dangerous but still quite safe - "generally."

Anxiety disorders

Almost never, never, never is the disorder limited to one area of life.
Anyone who says he just needs to suck it up is not educated in the disorder.
If White has only tried Benadryl and Xanax, he has never seen a psychiatrist.
Anxiety disorders get worse as the years pass.

I would never, ever sign White unless he agreed to REAL treatment. If he agreed to see a psychiatrist and the psychiatrist could relate to him, like a guy from Minnesota, this could be a major steal.
