Rookie Rankings: #1 and #3 go to ...

G-League
NBA.COM has updated their weekly rankings, and not surprisingly Omri takes over the #3 spot, while Tyreke remains #1, of course.

If you were worried about Evans succumbing to the glitz and glamour that come with being an NBA superstar, you can just stop right now. In a great glimpse behind the scenes, Sam Amick of the Sacramento Bee chronicles "Team Tyreke," a group of family members and close confidants whose lone goal is to keep Evans in check. But this isn't your run-of-the-mill entourage. "It's all about him," says Reggie Evans, Tyreke's older brother and legal guardian, who is leading the group by sticking to The Blueprint. "You think I'm afraid to say anything to him? Hell no," Reggie said. "Most (NBA players) have yes men, and they'll let guys go off the deep end, and they're afraid to get cut off (from the inner circle). That's not me. That's not us."

Casspi may have had the best week of all rookies. Off the court, he was named The Jerusalem Post's 2009 Israeli Sports Personality of the Year (beating out national soccer star Yossi Benayoun). On the court, Casspi surpassed 20 point in four straight games, averaging 22.5 points and 8.3 rebounds while hitting 53 percent of his shots. Jonny Flynn had a stranglehold on the No. 3 spot since Week 1, but it's hard to deny the impact of Casspi.

That is awesome! our two rookies in the top 3! I remember during the draft when people got upset that Portland traded up and jumped us 1 or 2 spots to draft Victor Claver or whatever the spanish dude's name is.

That was more about Blair... our two first round picks were unaffected by portland. Omri was the #23 pick of the 1st round

No, Claver was picked #22 by Portland. Just 1 pick ahead of Omri. Portland traded up for the pick.

Exactly. They swapped with Dallas, moving from #24 to #22 the day before the draft. There was the obvious feeling around Sac that Portland moved in front of us because we were after the same player, but I don't remember hearing that we got a good look at Claver in Spain at all. I actually expected them to take Casspi.

Wow! Casspi is #1?!

With all due respect, Thorpe is an idiot still chafing about being wrong about Tyreke from the beginning (at one point he had Lawson above him too). But that said Omri has been playing great, and while he's not going to catch Tyreke in any rational observer's list, over the last few weeks he has legitimately been better than Jennings.

Hmm...don't remember there being any Victor Claver push around here at all. In fact many of the mocks before the draft had us taking precisely Omri Casspi, and it seemed like a good late first round pick. If there was any puhs for a different player it would have been Blair, who was slipping. But the Blair stuff was far more acute when we missed out on him by 1 pick because of the Sergio + Brockman trade.

Looks like he changed his mind... 20 mins ago Casspi was 1 and Evans was 2. Now Jennings is 1. What has Jennings done in the last week to jump to #1? Both Casspi and Evans out preformed him.
He appears to be updating. Note the differing dates for each player. As of today, he has Brandon Jennings first, Omri second and Tyreke third. Tyreke missing some games might have affected his drop to third by Thorpe? He had some "how to improve" comments on all three players, though.

Have I mentioned recently that Thorpe is an idiot?

I'm just going to cut and paste that in future discussions of his opinions.

Agreed! Thorpe is an idiot who will not admit he was wrong about Tyreke. To have Jennings ahead of both of our guys is just plain stupid. His agenda precedes him.

Regarding Thorpe, refusing to bruise his ego a little and admit that he might have been wrong about Tyreke? hmmm... I think I've seen that around here on Kingsfans.com as well, so he's not alone. :D

There was no big push for victor claver during the draft. But when Portland traded up right ahead of us, some people on this board were upset because they thought Portland leapfrogged us and snatched the player we wanted.

I still don't understand why they took him. I'm fairly confident the unanimous response from european basketball fans outside of spain was: "Victor who?" Far as I can tell it was just a matter of not wanting to take on another salary.

Whew! Since my ego isn't that big (well when it comes to basketball), I know you aren't talking about me. :D

he was the best rookie this week.

BTW:
Casspi has already 38200 votes for the allstar
he's probably won't gonna make it but at least he gets a little respect (I wish it was more but still, nice)

Hmm... not nearly as many 'voters' in Israel as there are in China. :D

Still, that does bring up a point i've been thinking about recently. Small market teams tend to suffer in the SterNBA, we all know that, but I'm wondering what the accountants will make of the international-flavour Kings when they crunch those numbers.

I wanted to jump on the David Thorpe is an idiot band wagon before this thread died.

Jennings at #1? Evans is good enough to miss three games and be ahead of the struggling Jennings. Casspi is making a profound impact, 18 ppg, 8 rbds in the last five games, and it doesn't even feel like an abberation, it's not even a huge step up from previous (before the five games) play. Stupid, stupid, stupid. What an idiot.

Warriors or not, that was a historical rookie performance. Find me a King that had a single scoring game anywhere near that let alone in his first year.

I'm happier with Evans because he can clean gutters without a ladder, but nothing can take away from what Jennings did that day.

lol @ jennings 55 pt game, it was against the freakin warriors
