Rockets sputtering...

As a Laker fan watching the Rockets gives me something to be happy about, we could be worse. I thought it was a horrible trade when they first traded for Tracy considering Houston really seemed to make progress last season. Franchise and Mobley had sacrificed their scoring and Cato was performing great beside Yao. One Rockets fan mentioned that JVG wants Tracy and Yao to take on more of a leadership role which is frightening when you look at last years Darrell Armstrong/Orlando scene.

Or it's entirely fictional. It is only being talked about on a Rockets board and by a couple of broadcasters. Not exactly "from the horse's mouth" so to speak...
I just found out that Jim Jackson will play today verse the Suns, but with limited minutes. i found that out on Player Notes in the Main Page of the your Yahoo fantasy basketball league.

I just saw the highlights of this game and that Pachulia guy is the real 7'6....That was a sick rebound over Yao....

He just made Yao look like Shawn Bradley........

Chris Dudley..........

Bill Wennington.......

O-Tag........oopssss, my bad! I thought I was still in the MJ era....:) those centers were familiar though!

hahaha i some highlights on NBA fastbreak and WOW the rockets are just horrible. that dunk over yao was just SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seems like everyone dunks over yao.

i'm so tired of the yao hype. the guy just isn't going to be all that great IMO. he's the next bradley.

as for jackson, he should be greatful he can find a job every year making millions of dollars. if its for a ****** club, well guess what, i'm sure theres hundreds of young basketball players who would be more then happy to take that job. i know if i were a male, i sure would want that job. it's the NBA, cut the cry baby crap, and do your job. finish the season there, they come back to the kings next year :D ;)

 well he has already shown he is'nt going to be that bad

The guy is only going to be an 18 and 8 guy the rest of his career due to his genetic condition

Perish the thought! Like other good in-short-supply centers, hopefully Yao understands his worth.

I don't know if the Lakers are in that same league...

Over-rated? No. Over-hyped? Oh yeah... NO ONE could have lived up to the pre-NBA hype Yao had to go through. He has skills but, as Mad D alluded to, he also has a genetic predisposition to stamina problems. He's still VERY good and I think on the right team he could be much better utilized than how he's been played by the Rockets.

And, just for Lamar Odom, that team ISN'T the LA Kobes...

ONe season with Kobe would probably be enough for Yao to return to Shanghi refusing to ever play NBA again. After growing up in the Chiniese TEAM first system LA would hell for the boy, absolute hell.

No, Lebron DIDN'T have way more people hyping him. He wasn't carrying the hopes of over a BILLION people on his shoulders, either...

I don't think there's any need to compare the two. They are entirely different individuals; in fact, I doubt if there could be two more disparate entities on the planet.

Interesting, didnt yao get into trouble with his team during the olympics for making remarks to the media about not playing hard. I guess he has learned the American way of doing things by now. He also had the pleasure of playing with Steve Francis and Mobley who never gave him the ball, so Kobe may not be that bad compared to them. He is currently playing with Tmac who was supposedly the most selfish player last year. And fortunately at least he hasnt played with anyone who has the highest shot attempts per 48 min ;)

I agree with VF, he is still young and still is learning. From my point of view he needs to learn not to foul so much. He gets into a lot of foul trouble.
He didnt get the same preferential treatment that bron got with the espn hype and the refs were real hard on yao. They call lots of those touch fouls on him whereas on the other end its not the same. Bron has the blessing from stern and espn and he will definitely be made into a mega star and his talent does help to some extent in that regard

I disagree; I don't think that having "the hopes of a billion people on his shoulders" equates to being more heavily hyped. Yao Ming has, for the most part, only been a "major player" outside of Asia since late 2001. LeBron James has been a part of the basketball consciousness since he was a freshman in high school; he's been hyped as the "next big thing" since he was fourteen. I don't think that any hype that Yao has received has compared to what there has been for James, at least not proportionally.

To add to the fact that it was not Yao who came in to the league first from China, it was Wang Zhi Zhi. I havent seen the amount of hype that bron got anywhere else and i havent seen him play up to that level yet. He definitely gets star treatment and the refs bail him out a lot, unlike other rookies who always dont get the benefit of doubt. Offcourse there is conspiracy theory, what about the guy driving a hummer in high school. Oh yeah we will forget and move on cos he is the phenom and the media will conveniently not report those things which basically is espn. I suppose webb's case was far more publicized and atleast he went through college.

yes, that might have a little teensy bit to do with it too, even after the conspiracy.
Do you think Rasheed wallace is better than bron - I think so
Do you think webber is better than bron - I think so
Do you think Peja is better than bron - I think so
Do you think Dirk is better than bron - I think so
Do you think Jason Kidd is better than bron - i think so

But i dont see them being hyped as much as bron has been, i havent even seen this much hype with kobe or garnett when they came in. This is just surreal

Uh...I thought the hummer was tasteless BUT, as I recall it was a gift after his high school season (also heavily reported on BTW, I wasn't even really following LeBron and I knew about it). Since he had no more high school eligibility and he was not going to college, there are no rules against that sort of thing. He was no longer an amatuer.

Uh...
No.
Tossup.
No.
Maybe.
Tossup.

And that's TODAY. The Kid is 19. To the best of my knowledge he is better at 19 than any other player EVER. He's 25, 7 and 7 in his second year and he's not 20. One of the most astounding things I've ever seen in basketball. Would have said it couldn't be done until he did it.

I wasnt following it either, but from espn, the amount to which they hyped him it wasnt significant to the way they reported the incident. My only source of info at that time was espn and i was gettting sick of it, even they didnt report the incident that much, it was just a bleep in the radar. I just happen to remember it.

Ah the rules, yes he was out of high school (i guess) but i dont see a reason why that is not illegal. Webber and the fab five were taken for a ride with that issue and i dont see a big difference. They took money/gifts from someone for no reason that is academic/lawfull. Didnt his high school issue an apology or something, so maybe it was related to the school thing

I hate that hype so much that i dont even want to go and look it up

So Peja is better than webb
Peja is better than dirk
kidd is better than webb/dirk

Interesting, but thats the way you see it i suppose.
Anyhow i have watched a few cleveland games and i am not impressed with his play compared to the hype. Not to mention that the stats can easily be padded up when the refs are on your side and the turnovers results in a free throw and fouls result in a steal.

Have you been watching the Cavs this year? Not only is he a triple threat every night, he lifts his whole team up. He makes every single person on his team MUCH better. That being said Chris is a tossup, Pejas a tossup, and Dirks a tossup. Rasheed and Kidd(this year) don't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence, and like Brick said, he just turned 20! In 2 more years he will be better than every single person on the list.

heh...in 2 more years he will be better than every single player in the nba. the kid's just gonna be good. it dont matter how much anybody likes him, how many hummer's he accepted as gifts in high school, or how over-hyped anybody thinks he was. he is the next big thing. plain and simple. yao ming may have been overhyped, but everybody knew he was an investment project. same thing with darko milicic. lebron james, on the other hand, is what ya call instant talent. he enters the nba, and he's a star. his numbers show it. just look at them: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/lebron_james/index.html

he's impressed me so far. neither michael jordan or kobe bryant came into the nba and had such an immediate impact for their team. tho it didnt really matter for either, cuz they both went on to win several championships. i hope lebron has the opportunity to win a few as well.
