Rockets, Lakers & Hawks After 5th

The Kings aren't in love with anyone here if this scenario plays out this way. Sources say that the Kings are still confident they'll make a deal with the Rockets (who covet Drummond). If they don't, sources say GM Geoff Petrie is now leaning toward taking Drummond over Barnes. He feels it's a more tradable chip down the road and the team needs a shot-blocker (the one thing Drummond does well now) next to DeMarcus Cousins.

Trade Scenarios: By now the whole world knows the Rockets are aggressively trying to move up and get this pick. Houston's latest offer (Kyle Lowry and the No. 16 pick) was rejected. But you can expect the Rockets to keep plugging away until they get something done. The Rockets aren't the only team trying to get here. The Lakers and Hawks have also tried to convince Sacramento to part with its pick.
I've read elsewhere the Lakers want MKG, so I wonder if they've offered Gasol?

Wonder if the Hawks offered Josh Smith?

Those seem the likely candidates given the other rumors surrounding them. If the 5th pick is worth offers surrounding Lowry/Gasol/Smith, that's a pretty valuable pick. Gonna be interesting.

I like Smith, but reduced athleticism and 1yr on contract I don't like. I'd want Horford if Atl want the 5th that badly.

I don't know what will happen but we'll have an opportunity to make our team a lot better today if we play our cards right.

We are in a great position. More team wanting our picks, the more value our pick earns. Considering Petrie refused Lowry + #16, we have now 2 options: doing something great by trading our pick for much more, or doing something incredibly stupid by trading our pick for much less then this offer. I want to be optimist and believe Petrie will surprise us today. In a good way, of course...

pairing Horford with Cousins has been a dream of mine for a looooong time. don't see the Hawks biting on that though, Horford is the one piece they should hold on to, if they rebuild.

Go with Drummond Petrie! Two words Derrick Favors. Dude didn't do jack as a rookie and still landed the Nets a superstar. Besides, in time he becomes untouchable if he works out.

It's a seller's market it seems so that can only be a good thing for us.

I would be shocked if we actually keep the pick. The draft is pretty even after the first pick and there is a lot of somewhat unjustified hype around picks 2-5 which is a good position for us to be in.

I love MKG but with pick 5 you want an all-star type and none of the guys are certain all-star talent. All of them have questions marks. Beal probably has less question marks than anyone else other than Davis.

Since there is so much hype and interest in top 5, I want us to trade it and end up with 2 or more great role players, borderline all-stars that fill the need.

If we can get Lowry he is a borderline all-star that is a great fit next to Reke which really solidifies our backcourt defence. With pick 12 or 16 we can add either a small forward that fills a need or a big to add some depth. If we can cut some bad contracts off the payroll its a bonus.

Small forward would still remain troublesome but there are some free agents there that could be of great use for us and there is always an option of sign and trade or just trade.

Trades are scary, even if they look pretty good on paper.
I personally rather hold on to the pick, and simply draft MKG if he's there (and he probably will) and that's it. And just continue from there.
Whatever happens, we MUST get a SF! Any trade or draft that we make must involve a SF that will come play for us.
I think that we should trade only if Barnes&MKG are already selected. TR is great, but as I said, this night has to end with a SF.

Horford and Josh Smith plus a future first rounder for the number five pick. Let's get 'er done.

This is my thinking as well. Even if his work ethic leaves something to desire (and none of us really know if it does), there appears to be quite a few teams lining up for his services.

Perhaps, but setting aside the trade Reke nonsense, the beauty of trading the #5 pick for whatever is that we lose nothing off the current team. Its all addition. Just us getting to choose what we add.

And BTW, I'm still not going to be disappointed if we end up taking, and keeping, Drummond. Might not work out, but boy if it does...
