Rock Band II Draft - playoffs begin 6/8/09

#1
It's coming. Who's with me?

Rock Band Draft I was awesome (see link).

Rock Band II would follow similar guidelines, but eliminate musicians already in Rock Band I's draft (Those guys already have their own band). 5 members, each can play one instrument and do vocals/songwriting/dancing/etc. The 6th pick is for mandatory band name and write-ups.

This draft has begun! First, some rules:

The concept is a Rock Band Draft Thread in which each participant gets five picks.

1. The band members can be drafted in any order. Each member needs to be assigned all duties upon pick.

2. Members can only play one instrument with the exception of percussionists (can have range of typical and exotic percussive instruments) and keyboards (can play both piano and synthesizers).

3. Any and all members can be assigned back-up vocals. The lead singer can play any instrument as well. Complex synthesizers that can duplicate any instrument count as one instrument.

4. The member actually has to able to perform assigned duties. All members will be considered in their prime, unless stated otherwise in your wrap-up. If you wish to choose 5 guitar players, so be it.

5. The overall concept is how the band will sound in a live concert, no studio type editing/production will be considered as voting criteria. Song writing capabilities will not be a factor, however some voters may take it into consideration as a personal preference.

6. After the draft, each participant will post a full description/wrap-up of their band and explain how it all works together, what the set will sound like and any special features that they would like to be considered by voters. They will also name the band at this point. This will be in order of the second round of the draft to avoid duplicate names. Then voting will commence similar to the other draft threads we have had.

7. I'm going with an 18 hour clock to make picks this time. I think it will make the draft run a bit more smoothly.

The rules will be pretty lax as this is meant to be more fun than competition. The "Rock" band title is about as loose as "Classic" is in the car draft. Any musical style will be permitted. Drafting will be of the serpentine/boomerang fashion just like the heroes and villains drafts.

I will be the draft coordinator. Please use this as the sign-up and drafting thread. Rock On!

Think this is one of those drafts where I would be willing to fill a spot if necessary, but definitely don't want to take one from someone more interested.

I'm gonna sit this one out. I already made my perfect band and they couldn't get out of the first round. (Lousy Brick and his "Anti-D" shenanigans).

It'll be fun to watch this one from the sidelines though.

The trophies were for last year's TDOS drafts. Since that is now history, the trophies were removed pending new recipients.

So I'm going with the 12 members we have now. If anyone wants to join the draft to make it a full 16 please let me know...:)

The official draft order has been set! Here is how it came to be...I first gave a corresponding number to every member in descending order.

12 Jespher
11 LPKingsFan
10 Kingzrool
9 NoBonus
8 SacKings7
7 dukeswh
6 Endgame
5 NME
4 Francisco d'Anconia
3 Venom_7
2 Tradepeja
1 GoGoGadget

Then, using the randomizer, I ran a 12 number random set and used the first series given...

12, 11, 2, 3, 8, 4, 9, 6, 10, 5, 1, 7

Therefore, the official draft order is:

1. Jespher
2. LPKingsFan
3. Tradepeja
4. Venom_7
5. SacKings7
6. Francisco d’Anconia
7. NoBonus
8. Endgame
9. Kingzrool
10. NME
11. GoGoGadget
12. dukeswh

Jespher is on the clock...I'll get right on it :).

So, first pick time, and I'm going to nab an iconic lead singer with my pick. This guy can rip on the guitar as well, but is best known for his eerie lead vocals with Pearl Jam. He is ideally suited for a live tour, and would fit in nicely with a rough crowd of rockers or at a karaoke bar with some cubs fans. With my first selection, I choose:

Eddie Vedder - Lead Singer/Guitar (Pearl Jam)

Uh oh. I have a short list as it is, and it just got shorter. Nice pick though (and an obvious one for anyone who's following the Last Band Standing thread :p)
